Get the Look: Rihanna’s Winged Eye Makeup

    by Danielle

Fashion Bomb reader Whitney recently wrote in asking, “I love Rihanna’s makeup in this pic. Can you please show us how to re-create the winged look with eyeshadow?”

    But of course!

The key to an eyeshadow look like this is through layering. For a look that involves layering with such a bold shadow, do your eye makeup first before foundation as there is a big chance of eyeshadow fallout.

Grab a good eyeshadow base like Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream, MAC Paint or MAC Paint Pot. You can also use a cream liner, concealer, or any tacky (as in the consistency) makeup product so the eyeshadow has something to adhere to. To really make the shadow color pop, use a base in a similar color. If you’re using a nude base (one close to your skin tone or colorless) apply it up to the brow bone. If you’re using a same-color as your shadow base, don’t let it extend past your crease. Use a nude base on the brow bone.

Next grab a shocking mid-tone blue like MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow. Apply the first layer with a densely packed eyeshadow brush like MAC #217. Apply the next layer with an angled eyeshadow brush like MAC #275. As you get to the outer corners of the eyes (by the crease) use the angle of the brush to guide you in making the “wing”. If you need help making the shape look neat, enlist the help of the edge of a business card. Apply a few more layers or until your desired boldness is achieved. Highlight the brow bone area with a matte eyeshadow about 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone.

Line your eyes with a black eyeliner pencil like Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Mat Black 0L. then using a pencil brush like MAC #219, apply the blue shade in the area directly under the lower lash line staying as close to the bottom of your lashes as possible. Apply 2 to 3 coats of mascara. Clean up any fallout with a wet Q-tip or eye makeup remover.

Finish the face with a liquid foundation like Make Up For Ever HD Foundation or Make Up For Ever Face and Body Liquid Foundation and set with a loose powder like BECCA Fine Loose Finishing Powder. Apply a bright coral-pink blush like Illamasqua Blush in Tweak (I have seriously been wearing this blush everyday for the past month and a half since I bought it despite having like 20 other blush shades–it looks gorgeous on all shades of brown skin). Apply a neutral pink lipstick like MAC Viva Glam V to complete the look.

Add a few spritzes of a makeup spray like MAC Fix+ or Urban Decay De Slick Makeup Setting Spray (to prolong the wear of makeup especially on oiler skins) to finish.

    And you’re done!

Weekend Beauty Hot! or Hmm…: Rihanna, Lil’ Kim, Letoya Lucket, and More!

    by Danielle

    Happy Monday!

Hope you all had fabulous weekends! I spent my Saturday shopping in Flatiron and my Sunday bumming it up in my apartment. A weekend well spent. Let’s see what some of our fave celebs were up to…

Eve, LeToya Luckett, and Keisha Knight Pulliam were spotted acting silly and being pretty. Cute hair and lovely skin on all three ladies. Hot!

Umbrella queen Rihanna was spotted while en route to a family dinner. The Bajan songstress is currently sporting a longer yet still cropped style with choppy layers. I love it! Take a look at the back of her new ‘do:

    Hot!

Big Mama Queen Bee herself Lil’ Kim was spotted partying it up in Jersey City. I think I’ve personally exhausted all my mentions of how much prettier she looked pre-surgery, so I’ll just stop mentioning it…lol. The Hardcore femcee looks cute here (sans the overdrawn brows and two-head lacefront). Her skin is off the chain.

British X-Factor star Alexandra Burke was seen partying at Dandelion Cafe Bar and Club in Dublin, Ireland. I almost always like her makeup and this time is no exception—very pretty. I love how she paired bright cheek color and dramatic lashes with neutral eye makeup and lips. Hot!

Over at the Hamptons DJ Kiss and Entourage star Dania Ramirez posed for a pic at the Axe Lounge. I’m gonna have to break out all my berry lip color on a count of DJ Kiss—she’s so gorgeous. Dania looks cute as well but looks a little “ruffled”.

And over at the 62nd Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, comedian Wanda Sykes was spotted. Her halo of curls are making me consider running up on her with a pair of scissors to cut it off and put on my head. Her makeup is also pretty nice, too. Hot!

And rounding it all out is Mel B on the Creative Emmys red carpet. And I’m just not feeling it. She normally looks so good but she has on way too much makeup for the hot California sun and I wish her short ‘do was more angled. She’s still very much a hot chick though.

What do you think of this weekend’s roundup? Leave your thoughts in the comments :)

Splurge : Rihanna’s Red Quilted Chanel Backpack

    by Claire

Fatimah wrote in saying, “I was talking about rocking a leather backpack this fall and this one Rihanna is carrying is crazzzy!”

“Where can I get one? (ps: I’m going to NY next week and am ready to do serious shopping!).”
If you look closely at Rihanna’s newest armpiece, you can see two interlocking C’s, a tell tale sign that she’s rocking with a Chanel vintage backpack similar to this:

The bag features chain link straps and the house’s signature quilted details.
I couldn’t find her exact bag at Chanel.com, so it’s likely she got hers custom made or at the actual Chanel store. Chanel bags start at about $1,500, which is a serious splurge (even for those serious shoppers)!
Get a similar look for less with this $265 Dooney & Bourke ‘Medium’ Drawstring Backpack in Bourdeaux:

Get the Look: Rihanna’s Green and Yellow Eye Makeup Look

    by Danielle

Want to steal Rihanna’s green and yellow eye makeup look? I’ve got a break down for you! Plus the colors used will look great on all shades of brown skin. It’s basically a win-win situation.

    1. As always, beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize skin according to your skin type.

    2. Since several colors are involved with this look and eyeshadow fall-out is possible, let’s do the eyes first. Apply an eyeshadow base like MAC Paint Pot or Urban Decay Primer Potion. Grab a green with golden sheen eyeshadow like MAC Eyeshadow in Swimming (or if you want something a bit lighter try MAC Eyeshadow in Juxt) and blend it on the bottom portion of the lid. Use an eyeshadow brush like MAC #224 for a smooth and blended application.

Next take a matte deep plum shadow like MAC Eyeshadow in Shadowy Lady and in a windshield-like motion, apply it into the crease. Try a crease brush like MAC #217.

For your brow bone highlight, try a shimmery golden eyeshadow like MAC Eyeshadow in All That Glitters or try a matte eyeshadow (or even concealer) 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone—this will give you a great defined look.

Line eyes with a black eyeliner pencil. For a pencil that lasts even through sweat and tears, try Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Pencil in 01 Mat Black. For a little drama, use a liquid liner like Urban Decay Liquid Liner on the top lash line and allow it to extend a little past the outer corners of the eyes. Hold the liner wand at a 15 degree angle or use the edge of a business card to help guide you.

Now take a pencil brush like MAC #219 and dip it into the green shadow shade and carefully line underneath your bottom waterline (the area underneath your bottom lashes) about half-way of the length of your eye. Then take a shimmery golden yellow-green eyeshadow like MAC Eyeshadow in Bitter and apply it along the other half of the bottom lash area as well as in the inner corners of the eyes. Apply two to three coats of mascara. Clean up any fallout or mistakes with a Q-tip dipped in water or eye makeup remover.

    3. Apply liquid foundation using a foundation brush like MAC #190 or a makeup wedge. Be sure to blend all the way to the hair line, by the ears, and by the neck to avoid foundation mask. Set with a loose powder like Becca Fine Loose Finishing Powder using a fluffy brush like MAC #187. Some liquid foundations to try: Black Opal True Color Liquid Foundation, Face Atelier Ultra Foundation for Women of Color, Make Up For Ever Face & Body, Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation.

    4. For the cheeks, apply a bright orange blush (don’t be scared—the pigments in our skin look best in brighter blush colors and if applied with a light hand will look gorgeous) like Cargo Blush in Laguna. If you went a little overboard with the blush, that’s nothing a dusting of loose powder can’t fix.

    5. For the lips, try a Barbie pink lipstick like MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick. As tough of a shade as it may look, it actually works through the spectrum of our skin tones. Still not feeling it? Grab a nude lip or be bold and rock a red lip.

    6. To add radiance to the skin (or to help avoid “powder face”) give your face a spritz of MAC Fix+ Spray. Or if you have trouble getting your makeup to stay put, try Urban Decay De Slick Makeup Setting Spray.

Weekend Beauty Hot! or Hmm…: Rihanna, Sanaa Lathan, Angela Simmons, and More

    by Danielle

I feel like I went to sleep Friday night, blinked, and it was already Monday morning. *sigh* Can we petition to have an extra day added into the weekend?

Anyway, hopefully you all had fabulous weekends—some of our fave celebs looked like they did. Let’s see what’s going on with the hair and makeup…

First up Rihanna was spotted wearing a Stella McCartney dress in New York after her sold-out Madison Square Garden concert. I’m loving the new hair and the makeup is a perfect contrast to her bright red tresses. I’m thinking the pink lip is a better look with her red hair than the red-on-red. What do you think?

Next, over at the The 10th Annual Harold Pump Foundation Gala, Laila Ali was in attendance as her father the legendary Muhammad Ali as well as Denzel Washington were honored. I love her bangs! I might have to steal those. Makeup is on point as well. Hot!

Several celebs were spotted at the InStyle magazine Summer Soirée. Actress Sanaa Lathan and her beautiful skin were there. I’m loving her curls and her soft makeup. Hot!

We already know Kim Kardashian was in the building. Her makeup looks great as usual, but what’s going on with the shape of her lips? Cute updo though.

Kissable Couture creator Keisha Whitaker also made an appearance. Aside from it looking like someone went a little bit overboard with the powder under her eyes, she looks great.

Actress Jurnee Smollet stepped out looking all kinds of stunning. Her skin care secrets must be divulged NOW. That will be all.

And rounding out the InStyle event was the lovely Garcelle Beauvais Nilon also rocking jaw-dropping gorgeous skin. I’m about to straight print her pic out and request this hair at a future salon visit. Hot!

Celebs were out for the Lottery Ticket premiere. Anyone going to see this? *crickets*

Just kidding—it looks like it might be cute.

Teairra Mari turned in her singing hat for an acting one in this film. Her hair looks great and I love her makeup. The lashes are a bit too spiky, but still cute. Hot!

Naturi Naughton slid through the red carpet and while I like her hair and makeup, I feel like it ages her. Isn’t she like 24?

Someone come hold my hand. Please. No Big Les didn’t. With that frosty AND iridescent lip color. She actually would have had something going here if she 86′d the lips and filled the brows in more. Hmm… Her haircut is cute though.

Angela Simmons was out supposedly supporting her on-again boo Bow Wow. She looks good—I’d add a little loose powder to blot the shine down a bit, but still Hot!

And last but not least, Malika Haqq’s cute self was at the SWAGG Polo Challenge. Her hair looks super cute and what I can see of her makeup looks pretty. Hot!

That rounds it out, folks. What do you think of this past weekend’s looks?
