I’m on a Boat: What to Wear for a Yacht Cruise

    by Claire

    Ah Fashion Bombers!
Ever since I first watched the hilarious video “I’m on a Boat” by Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer featuring T-Pain, I’ve been looking for an excuse to feature it on the Fashion Bomb. Though entertaining, I couldn’t quite find the right fashion related post to go along with it….until we received the following seaworthy wardrobe query from reader Charlene.
She says, “I’m going to party on a yacht (held in the evening/night) and have no idea what to wear! I’m looking for something dressy but not over the top. I’m open to anything! :) Thanks in advance.”
When I think of yacht attire, I get images of lean prepsters holding cocktails while teetering on high stilettos. Go for saucy yet understated in a crisp white button down, a flashy mini skirt with sailor stripes, hot heels, and lots of gold jewelry.

The boat can get rocky, so don’t forget your flippy floppies:) Get the look here:

And if you’ve never seen the “I’m on a Boat” video, feast your eyes:

    Hilarity indeed.
    Enjoy!

Mail Bombs: Beyonce’s Balmain Camouflage Pants, Corinne Bailey Rae’s Red Carpet Look, and Chic Graduation Dresses!

    by Claire

Lots going on here in Paris, but I always make time for our Friday Mail Bombs:)
    Let’s go!
First up Joelle says, “I was over at Necole Bitchie and saw this pic of Bey sitting courtside.”

“While her whole outfit is cute, I LOVE her pants. Who makes them?”
Beyonce is fitted in head to toe Balmain, including these $1,745 stretch cotton pants:

If that’s too much, don’t despair! Forever 21 has a similar pant for $25. Get the whole look here:

Lluckie says, “I absolutely love the boots and bag Angela Simmons is rockin !”

“Where and how can I get them?”
It’s obvious from the monogram and colors that Angela is rocking a Louis Vuitton bag from the brand’s Spring 2010 collection:

As for the shoes, get the look with these options:

Find retail locations for the bag at www.louisvuitton.com.
Next, Monique says, “I loved Corinne Bailey Rae’s outfit from the Elle Style Awards.”

“I’d love to wear something similar for a date with my boo. Help!”
Get Corinne’s essence by slipping on a pair of satin cropped pants, a button down black top, and fun black pumps. This look works for anything from a girl’s night out to a stylish red carpet. Splurge or save with the options below:

In a wardrobe query, Mallori says, “I need your help finding a graduation dress that makes a statement with elegance and class. I’m graduating from Dental school and will be receiving my D.M.D. As graduation approaches I am on the hunt for different cocktail dresses for various banquets and receptions I will be attending. Although it’s expensive, this is the dress I fell in love with but…..its no longer available in my size.”

I call my style “modest chic” so I like to leave something to the imagination which is why I absolutely loved this dress! Seems like everything I see is short short or shows a lot of skin which is not my style. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated! “
Since you liked the one shoulder style, I found you a host of modest yet chic dresses with a similar silhouette and in a myriad of colors:

Lastly, Briana says, “I’m headed to Florida in a little over a week, but since it’s February I’m not sure what to wear. Could you possibly give me some ideas on pieces or outfits I could or should wear?”
A quick check to weather.com reveals the temperature in Miami is about 20 degrees Celsius and 68 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s not terribly cold, but not terribly hot either, so I’d go for a few dresses with twill jackets thrown over, jeans and t’s to battle nighttime chills, and a few cute tote bags and sensible pumps:

That does it for now! I got a late start with Mail Bombs, but will update throughout the day if I stumble upon any more celebrity finds or wardrobe solutions!

Mail Bombs : Angela Simmons, Kim Kardashian, and Evening Gown Looks for Less!

    by Claire

    Hey Guys!

Mail Bombs today will be very brief, as I want to hit the road and take in my first show! I found a little time to solve a handful of Mail Bombs. Let’s go!
First up, Raven from Atlanta says, “Can you PLEASE tell me where to find Angela’s dress?”

“…I’m loving the fit and color combination!”

Hey! I’m assuming Angela is wearing by Twinkle by Wenlan, as she chose the above outfit to sit front row at the show. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the exact dress, but think you can get a similar look for less with these:

Next, Kay says, “Please help me find out who makes the shoes that Baller Chris Paul’s date is wearing.”

“….They are too fly! Who makes these and where can I get them?”

The fly young lady is wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin Uluona 140 Platform Sandals:

The amazingly hot stompers are a whopping $1,695 at Net-a-Porter. Get them here.

Nicki says, “Can you all help me find something similar to this dress Kim Kardashian wore on the Today Show last week?”

“… I’ve been looking EVERYWHERE for something like it! Thanks!”
Get a Kardashian essence with this $71 Pink Soda Silk Dress with Beaded Neckline from ASOS:

If that match isn’t close enough, a lot of designers offer Puff Sleeve dresses in a rainbow of colors. Check out a small selection below:

Lastly, in a wardrobe query, Milly says, “I have to attend a semi-formal event next weekend. The black alumni at my alma mater are hosting a gala to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Africana Center. I am running on a tight budget, but I have yet to find a perfect dress for this occasion. I wanted to know if you had any suggestions? I would really appreciate your help!”
No problem Milly! I found these gala worthy gowns for less than $150:

That does it for today! I’m off to see what London Fashion Week has to offer…

Outfit under $100 : What to Wear to an Interview

    by Claire

Bombshell Sheree says, “I’m a fashion merchandising student going on a 2nd internship interview with Nordstrom next week! I feel like everything in my closet right now is just plain–there’s no wow factor! Can you help me find a cute look for under $100 to wear to my interview?”
Finding a complete outfit under $100 is certainly a feat, but we found a blouse, skirt, shoe, and bag combo for under $100 that should impress:

Amp up a subtle tweed pencil skirt with a frilly long sleeve blouse in a bright color that marries conservative with style. Show off a bit of your fierce personality with studded pumps, a cute bag with gold hardware, and flower studs:

    Good luck!

What do you think of this outfit for under $100?

Valentine’s Day Style Inspiration : Pretty in Pink and Gray

    by Claire

Our Style Inspiration from yesterday got me thinking about other looks we could put together with a more casual bent.

Since V-Day falls on a Sunday, most of you will most likely opt for cute jeans over cocktail dresses. Whether you’re just starting a relationship or settling into an old one, you can’t go wrong in skinnies and pumps. Take a diversion from the bright red crowd in an outfit that marries classic gray with soft pink:

If it’s cold in your neck of the woods, throw on a chunky gray cardigan or jacket over a pale pink tank. Add touches of femininity with a flutter flower clutch, pink shoes, and pink studs:

What do you think of today’s look?
