Today we have a special Fashion Bomber treat!
We’re featuring the endlessly dapper artist Jidenna from Brooklyn:
His hit song ‘Classic Man’ is the bomb, and his look is just as intriguing as his music. He writes, “My style is heavily inspired by the Harlem Renaissance with hints of traditional West African design. The marriage of European and African aesthetics is a direct expression of my heritage.”

” I always appreciate a clean contrast in pattern, color, and culture.”

” More importantly, I enjoy when outfits make specific statements in the context in which they are worn.”

” I didn’t invent the suit, but in my pocket of the industry, 3-piece suits are rare. Ironically, it is now more conservative to wear a snapback, t-shirt, and jeans than it is to wear a high collar and waistcoat. Therefore, wearing a suit is a somewhat rebellious statement.”

” Although I am breaking the rules of hip-hop culture by wearing a suit, I’m not too cool to sweat in it. I’m more concerned with the fit than fitting in.”

I like it! Dapper indeed. Be sure to send in more pix when you get a chance;)

  1. His hair and facial hair is throwing everything off for me, but his description of his style is accurate.

  2. Mixed messages here. i mean, one would think a ‘classic man’ is himself attracted to females, but this guy seems like a poofter. I’d be shocked if he’s entirely straight.

  3. @t.rex So you’re assuming he’s gay just because he prefers to dress reflecting an era where black men wore well tailored versus a lot of these young men wearing either pants sagging off their butts and skinny jeans?? Hmmmm, the irony.

  4. He is wonderfully well spoken and confident. He has a gentleman vibe that I can dig. A lot of people mistake being flashy with popular name brands as being a fashion bomb, but I prefer well fitted garments with an overall clean appearance. He definitely takes pride in himself. Kudos to him. Oh, and btw, his music is pretty dope. Check him out if you haven’t already.

  5. His live performance of “Classic Man” is way better than the single cut. I’m not even the biggest fan of the Everyday People Party that Chef Roble host but I felt I made a good last minute decision to go when he performed that song there last summer. …His SoundCloud also has fun cuts…..

  6. I’m so tempted to ask him what my hours are…..”nine…to five” Great style though!

  7. The guy is fresh. Its a breath of fresh air to see a gentleman speak and carry himself as such. Hopefully he starts a positive trend because I’m already working on my own personal wardrobe. Nothing wrong with dressing dapper on a regular basis. It doesnt have to be a full suit with a vest and all, but “classic” and coordinated. Just make sure your attitude reflects the same! I watched his interview from a few months ago on the breakfast club…real confident and sure of himself but humble at the same time. I appreciate people like that.

  8. Haha. Idk if that’s a fair basis to judge his sexuality on, but his wikipedia page says he lives with his “partner” Jerome and their pug Prince Chadwick III.

    So…
