Happy Sunday!
So yesterday I headed to the city with the plan to go to a friend’s trunk show, then dip down to Dumbo to attend a fellow blogger’s 5th Year Anniversary Party. I got dressed up in a Served Fresh x Ty Hunter sweatshirt, and Pierre and I were shooting a Style Diary in the middle of Herald Square…

… when we realized that all the traffic jams were because of New York’s Millions March, where thousands of people advocated for equal rights and police accountability, precipitated by the wrongful deaths of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and countless others.

So we joined the march.

Yep, I was wearing Gianvito Rossi heels. Pierre and I hopped into the crowd at 34th street, and walked downtown on Broadway, chanting ‘No Justice No Peace,” as Pierre captured a diverse group of protesters carrying signs, united for progress.

My thought the whole time was: We are documenting history. This is amazing. And while a few Instagram followers got caught up in my attire, my #OOTD wasn’t my focus. My goal yesterday was to support and bring awareness to the cause by documenting the proceedings and using my platform to help spread the word.

I majored in African American studies in college. Issues of diversity, fairness, race, and equality are always at the forefront of my mind, whether I translate it through the lens of fashion, photography, or another medium.

  1. There’s a saying in french that goes “qui ne dit mot consent”… Thanks Claire for speaking up and using your platform to raise awareness xx

  2. Priorities! Heels? Then trying to promote for Ty hunter? Girl bye!!!!! How long were you out there with no coat and heels. Oh but maybe you took your coat off for the photos!!!! I can’t !!

  3. Awesome of you to change your whole day in a show of solidarity! Wish I could’ve been in NYC for the march. 12/13/14 was an epic day!

  4. Claire,

Soo proud of you, and you clearly explained you were doing a fashion diary piece when you got caught up in the march. Really sick of the bitter birds throwing shade who have a first grade level of reading comprehension.
Good to see this generation showing what they are made of.
    Black Lives Do Matter!

  5. I agree with both sides… yes it’s great that you attended the march, but it would have been more effective had you known about the March in advance and used your platform to help get the word out. Either way, what happened Saturday was epic and hopefully will lead to some real change.

  6. I love how you changed your plans to join the March and document that historic day. (I know it wasn’t about the fashion and I know your attire was based on your initial plans, but nonetheless I love how your face was beat while marching….yeessss!) lol.

    #Blacklivesmatter

  7. I fall on the side of the criticism. These photos seemed opportunistic and disingenuous. Kinda disappointed.
