Givenchy has named Clare Waight Keller as their New Artistic Director, taking the place of Riccardo Tisci:
While rumors swirled that more bold faced names like Virgil Abloh would occupy the spot, former Chloé designer Waight Keller will take over for the LVMH couture house. Of her new appointment, she said in a statement, “Hubert de Givenchy’s confident style has always been an inspiration and I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this legendary house’s history. I look forward to working with the teams and writing a new chapter in this beautiful story.”
Waight Keller graduated from the Royal College of Art in London, and has held posts at Calvin Klein, Gucci, and Pringle of Scotland. Though Givenchy has become known for its celebrity lace shows and in-your-face pieces largely embraced by the hip hop community, Clare’s aesthetic skews more demure. It will be interesting to see what she presents for the house’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection in October.
