Show Review: Anya Hindmarch Spring 2017

Anya Hindmarch may be the Queen of Accessories, but she pulled from a rather different inspiration when dreaming up her Spring 2017 collection: mathematics. Though she’s admittedly bad with numbers, most designers have an obsession with and connection to clean lines and geometrically-sound design—making math pretty essential in their creativity process, whether they like it or not.

The endlessness of circles was the starting point for Hindmarch. And the models did their jobs around a curving cavity in the catwalk.

The spheres then made their way to the clothing with circular metal and paillette embellishment accenting top handle bags, jackets, and sneakers, retro-inspired round shades, and fur keychains and slides boasting on-trend smiley faces.

The palette was punchy and perfect for the start of a new Spring season, with periwinkle blue, teal, lilac, and lime.

And the silhouettes were as varied as the colors. Everything from colorblock bodysuits to mini skirt suits were presented.

Outerwear was a main focus with a lime collarless coat with elbow-length sleeves and colorful embellishment, an orange triple-button design that fell at the knee with cutout shoulders, a vibrant lavender jacket with exposed stitching, and a pink number with oversized front pockets and raised sleeve trim for a 3-D effect.

But let’s be honest: Spring is about temperatures warming up and those first days when your skin can stand to be bare after a long and harsh Winter. Hindmarch played into that longing and excitement with mini skirts, sleeveless silhouettes, and toe-exposing sandals.

And naturally, the accessories were on point. Embellished slides that we’d prefer to be wearing in real-time, the brand’s classic satchel with colorful detailing, mid-top kicks for function and flair, and strappy pointed-toe pumps with wearable heels were all on the seasonal menu.

Jessica Alba, Janelle Monae, and Nathalie Emmanuel have all been spotted toting Hindmarch’s accoutrements this year, thus we fully expect them to go crazy for this collection. Perhaps we’ll spot a bag or two from this assortment during awards season.
