So last night I trekked from Brooklyn to Harlem to attend an event celebrating Laz Alonso as the new celebrity ambassador for American Airlines’s African-American focused website, BlackAtlas.com. Normally on Fridays I’m totally depleted from the week…and a one hour ride up to 125th seemed more than daunting. But I put on a fresh face and went. I’m glad I motivated!
Loads of colorful folk came out to celebrate Laz’s new appointment, including TV host Tanika Ray, Jennifer Williams of Basketball Wives fame, Robert Townsend, Al Reynolds, BJ Coleman, Phillip Bloch, and more. With a performance by Melanie Fiona, it was definitely a dope night!
But of course I busied myself taking loads of Real Style for your viewing enjoyment:
Iman looked lovely in all vintage everything, including a flowered frock and a belt that once belonged to her father.
This dapper gentleman exuded Harlem chic in a tie, driver’s cap, and rolled up chinos.
How hot does Chasity look? The model divulged she was wearing a design by Ms. Tina Knowles. Work!
Ebony Magazine editor Janell always looks chic! And I loved her friend Robert’s rolled camouflage pants and loafers.
Brandice of Harlem’s Fashion Row looked crisp in a wide lapel white jacket, jeans, and pink stilettos.
My homegirl Demetria Lucas from the blog A Belle in Brooklyn stays fly. She flaunted a new hair color along with a floral printed dress, peach pumps, and her signature: a Louis Vuitton bag.
Solio and Beau showcased pieces from Beau’s button laden line. Like? See more at www.beaumccall.com.
Tracey looked summer ready in a purple dress and gold accents.
I couldn’t help but take a picture of Southern gentleman Renaldo, who boldly embraced Ikat shorts and high striped socks.
This young lady looked gorgeous in a hot pink Myne silk dress. If it looks familiar, Khloe Kardashian and Tika Sumpter have worn it before. She’s selling it!
And Isis was lovely in animal print and wide legged pants.
Of course no Real Style run down would be complete without cameos from Fashion Bomb readers! There were quite a few in the house, including Ashley, an intern at Vibe Magazine. How cute is her dress?
Kim also came up to say hey, looking party perfect in a blue dress and black sandals.
As for me…!
I can’t overstate how much I’m loving rompers and jumpsuits this summer. I’m a dress kind of gal (mainly for the ease of getting ready) and to me, jumpsuits offer a cool, unexpected alternative. For my night uptown, I slipped on a black Catherine Malandrino one piece, and made it all pop with a Cashhimi clutch (yes, I’m loving them right now). Clad in my jumpsuit, I bopped around the party taking pix, noshing on hors d’oevres, and saying hiii to friends:
