  1. work it girl! she carries her self very well and i love that black and white polka dot dress.

  2. I must say that I truly appreciate the fact that I see more and more Full Figured Fashionistas. I love it. Blah… to those who think that fashion fowardness is only for the ladies size 4 and under. This young lady put together some very nice outfits. I encourage her to pursue her dreams and keep flaunting her beautiful smile.

  3. I could never imagine wearing any of those outfit. Probably not her designs but she styled them… its all kind of tacky. Especially the pink ladies looking jacket and polka dot dress. Very Grease-esque outfit imo and looks like its for halloween… At least I can HOPE it is for halloween :/

  4. LMAO X2 @Anonymous!!!! OMG!!!! Whew chile that was too funny…yea seriously though i totally agree…but I have to applaud her confidence!

  5. Uh oh! A little too much going on with each look, but I do like the outfit in the third pic of the collage. :)

  6. But she does possess great confidence and that’s what it’s all about!!

  7. I love her confidence and that she is a plus size woman. But as for the style I’m not a huge fan. It so cookie cutter, southern black girl its no joke. The polka-dot and the pink shiny jacket screams Grease and not in a good way. What I can say is that her clothes fits her really well. And i’n not one for shooting down anyones dreams so good luck.

  8. Nice pieces here and there, but unfortunately too many things going on at one time. My eyes are just all over the place.

  9. I think voting Messy Mess is way harsh. She looks okay. I think taking more risks and not being so matchy-matchy would work in her favor. I like the animal print scarf and the tan tunic, but she should burn those “denim” leggings a.s.a.p.

  10. Its a little too much for me but designers and stylists always seem to be doing the most. June Ambrose anyone?? (whom I love personally, but pause sometimes on her “style”)…the lovely lady (M. Haenn) who styles Rhianna?? Okay y’all see where I’m going.

Let that girl be great. Keep stylin’ sis.

  11. Oh and being plus size doesn’t have anything to do with this tragedy. Don’t blame being a big girl on putting some of these “looks” together.

I thought this was a fashion blog? Not an accuse to get a good laugh in for the day?
    *logs off*

  12. This is NOT about confidence. I’m tired of people beating around the bush – there is a concept of constructive criticism. It appears she is too focused on being being trendy as opposed to having great style.

  13. Not feelin it….alot of her pieces look cheap and its too much going on. Not liking the personality glasses either. Wish those would go away….

  14. C-L-A-R-K, A-T-L-A-N-T-A, U-UNIVERSITY, C-A-U! Now on to the fashion…loves the white frilly blouse and the camouflage pumps.

  15. I honestly feel she has an idea about fashion and how it works. Unfortunately her execution is lacking. I would love to see her take the critiques and study putting clothes together and resubmit her photos maybe end of year or next year. Gerissa, use this submission as an opportunity to elevate your sense of style and don’t take it personal. You have a good foundation to build up from.

  16. I will go ahead and say it. I feel a lot of people wouldn’t have picked “messy mess” if she were more traditionally beautiful in the face, or smaller. Her style is not that bad! The pink/polka dot outfit could have been omitted, but other than that, not a mess at all. The second pick (pink iPhone) is actually a very cute outfit from what I can see. But facial expression is everything. Gerissa, if you’re reading this hun, the nude lip and open mouthed expression made you appear hard at the first glance. Show off that beautiful smile, and add some color (lips or eyes) to soften your features, and you’ll be fine.

  17. The foundation in some pictures does not blend very well…it seems too light for her face and when it gets to the hairline and stops, her natural complexion is darker (especially in the brown outfit).

  18. Most people voted “messy mess.” Wow!

This is garden variety for the college crowd, but not a mess.

For some reason it looks like she’s wearing too many clothes at on time. I think skin would be nice, maybe some leg, but the hair looks great!

  19. Stop it with the confidence comments like its a rarity for bigger women to be confident. As for the style, I think she needs to take off one item of clothing before leaving the house, maybe leave the jackets at home. I completely disagree with Kapri_H. Those outfits look cheap, it wouldn’t matter what size woman wore them.

  20. I agree that she has some nice individual pieces. I love the grey jacket and the green skirt in particular. I think her looks overall aren’t doing anything for me.

I HATE this stupid big nerd glasses trend though. SMDH.

  21. I’m sorry but her size has nothing do with the level of TRAGEDY that both the outfits and makeup (her entire look to be honest) have reached. I can’t even give that half a** comment people like to give to bigger woman (such as myself) “You dress cute for a big girl”. Big girl, skinny girl this looks bad. I don’t mind if you shop at Rainbow but I shouldn’t be able to tell just by looking at your clothes (especially if I can tell through pictres). #thatisall

  22. Kapri I have to disagree with you. I have seen many “hit in the face” chicks with great style get LOTS OF LOVE on thi blog. I have seen many big girls with great style get lots of love on this blog. The fact is her clothing looks cheap, her outfits are well put together and her makeup is awful. Her entire look wouldn’t suit anyone, ugly, pretty, skinny or fat. Hell Beyonce couldn’t even pull this sh** off.

  23. LMAOOOO@ VANESSA…..I AM DEAD RIGHT NOW!!!! No shade whatsoever but I do feel like some of these “fashion bombs” are posted to be laughed at (you can usually tell what the person posting thinks of the “bomb” because the last option is usually like “MESSY MESS” or “HORRIBLE!!” something along the way we feel when we see the photos ourselves……There have been a lot of sad, sad, fashion bombs as of lately….maybe they are the only ones submitting their pictures??? I can’t believe that Claire would choose these submissions if there was better canidates to be posted.

  24. C! A! WHO?! :)

I second the opinion on too trendy and not stylish. Skim it down.. and invest if you can. Kinda like that high waist look.. but still reminds me of the popular “ooh i’m so different” thang going on these days.

  25. “Unfortunately her execution is lacking. I would love to see her take the critiques and study putting clothes together and resubmit her photos maybe end of year or next year.”

AGREED! She is a student.. man my style developed so much over those years AND the post-college years. i learned a lot from In Style mag and began really studying magazines for inspiration.

  26. Its not the fact that she is a bigger woman her outfits just aren’t put together well at all. She had some cute pieces but as a whole she could have looked way more polished.

  27. I think she has some great pieces to work with so here’s some of my honest tips for this bombshell:
*take away some of the accessories. you dont need a necklace, ring, bracelet and earrings all in the same outfit.
*white stitching on jean is always seen as tacky (in my opinion)
*it’s not best to have have makeup, clothing and accessories of the same color in one outfit
*instead of cropped jackets try a blazer for a more put together look
*any kind of graphics expand an area so watch where you place them on your body
*hair counts as an accessory, when it’s bold, minimize your look.

Honestly i think you have a passion for fashion, all you need is to know your body type and how to control your creativity.

  28. I agree with milla. The person posting defs has an opinion cause the worst options always seem to change depending on how…. “Unfortunate” the situation is.

  29. bahahaaaahaaaa@ these comments!!!

Ya girl tried, i give her that and it has NOTHING 2 do with looks or weight. She holds her weight nicely and has a nice smile.
It doesn’t matter how much ur clothes cost but the quality. She def has the trends. Its jus too much.

*the scarf pic-im diggin where u going but diff shoes (boots) n jeans would hv wrked better.
*polka dot dress-that dress is a stand alone item so u ddn’t need any of the pink accessories. NONE OF THEM. Ur shoes were cute n so was the clutch.
I hope this helps sweetie. U look lik a sweet girl w/a FAB personality. Jus kno all cheap aian’t good.

  30. Spunky! Not my style but it works for her, very size appropriate. Fun young styles.

  31. My favorite is the high-waisted denim skirt with the ruffled blouse.

Overall, I’d say that there is just too much going on with each outfit. Maybe try to build an outfit around one particular piece, rather than making a statement with every item.

    Kudos for the confidence!

  32. Fashion what the FAUX PAS?!!!

OK… I applaud her efforts, but her style is not well executed. Just as many others have commented, her pieces are visibly cheap and poorly paired. I will accredit the poor quality of her pieces to her college student status; even children from affluent families are broke in college. Not only that, like it or not, depending on body type and just how big you are, plus-size women have rather limited options.

She should focus on more classic, staple pieces in her wardrobe. Funky blazers, classic denim (NOT those jeggings), bold metallic jewelry (NOT that plastic-y stuff), and overall simple(r) pieces with bold accents.

Go for the gusto, sis… just edit a little better.

  33. She’s cute. Def looks like a Georgia girl, the gel’d updo gives it away. But I appreciate her courage to submit.

Love the confidence. Good luck on your fashion line.

  34. to say u loved fashion since was little is outrageous w/ these outfits.. its all cheap and ugly.. NEXT

  35. @asia- i LOVE the first two bloggers you posted. gabi and jay always look fabulous and chic even with the limited clothing resources available to plus sized ladies.

as for gerissa, i can’t say that i’m a fan. the pants in the first pic were ill fitting. and the long knee-length dress/top over jeans in the last pic didn’t compliment her at all. i think she would definitely benefit from looking at some of the bloggers asia listed as some great inspiration for looks that would look more refined and compliment her more.

  36. if she going to have a fasion line in the future i hope the clothes look better than this..it might as well be another citi-trend

  37. Wow, why so many messy mess votes? I didn’t like the matchy-matchiness or costume adjacent feeling of some of the outfits, but they weren’t THAT bad. The polka dotted pink lady and sexy librarian looks are cute. The green look might have made it too if my eyes didn’t tell me that’s a camo vest with camo pumps. Please tell me they lied. Only the flower tee & jegging combo got a true thumbs down from me.

  38. Your looks are bold, and INTERESTING…We liked the high waisted skirt and the green skirt looks. Remember less is MORE… Good luck on your fashion line.

  39. She can definately style her a** off, but the pieces individually are not really appealing…can’t fault her for that tho because I know(from my retail experience) the lack of fashion foreward pieces for plus sized women. I wish her luck on her fashion line! She could be one of the designers to make that change in that industry:)

  40. Wow the comments on this blog are always so brutally honest. I don’t think I could ever have the nerve to submit my photos. On one hand it’s too simple, on the other it’s all over the place and “trying too hard”. Is anyone ever going to win? lol.
