Happy Wednesday!
Yesterday, I had the distinct honor of speaking to FIT’s Black Retail Action Group (B.R.A.G for short).

Though I was more than a little late, these future industry insiders waited patiently to hear about my journey and any advice I could offer on going for your dreams.

It was a full house!
Aside from recounting my background, I also offered 5 tips:
1. Be persistent and consistent
2. Pay your dues/accumulate great experiences
3. If something doesn’t work, try something new! The definition of insanity is to try the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.
4. Banish fear/follow your heart. Don’t make excuses
5. Watch the company you keep.

Perhaps I’ll write a book one day expounding on each point. But for now, I’m just speaking on it.

For the occasion, I decided to go for a bit of a Clueless vibe in a plaid Dries van Noten jacket over a Robert Rodriguez shirt and Zara pleated faux leather skirt.

Someone asked if I could show how I repurpose items in my closet. I first wore the Dries jacket with black jeans and Louboutin pumps at fashion week.

Which way was better?
At any rate, it’s always fun to share of my time, and I met a lot of students who might be Fashion Bomb interns sooner than later!

Karl Pierre took a bunch more flix. If you want to see ’em, be sure to check out TheBombLife.com (I’ll try upload them before the end of the day).
Many thanks to the students at BRAG for having me. And be sure to stay in touch (and tag me in all those selfies we took!).

  1. Congrats to you Claire, keep the good work up. I like this pairing with the leather skirt better.

  2. You’ve mentioned a few times on the site about your propensity for lateness. Just curious–do you think that has had any effect on your career?

  3. Claire, you look like you have wide feet. I have wide feet, I’m a 10 in pumps and a 9 in sneakers, what designer shoes do you recommend?

  4. thanks for inspiring the young peeps, keep up the good work. now lets go to the fashion something is a bit off with this outfit , it looks sloppy. im thinking the skirt is too short and throwing every thing off. Also for a presentation to young people i would have loved a nice tailored look that says you are successful and a fashionista like the blue on blue suit you wore the other day and not wear an outfit that you would have been worn to the club, cleavage, legs etc . Not a good look for a presentation

  5. Yeah @Lolo, I was hmming at that as well. The majority of the time Claire wears shirts buttoned up to her neck that I don’t think are the least bit flattering. Yet for a presentation, she breaks out the cleavage. I don’t get it.

  6. @Janine If I can help it, I’m on time. The latest I like to be late is 5-10 minutes.
A couple times, I’ve been too late and there were deleterious results…I was supposed to interview on NPR and got stuck on the train…I had a meeting with someone and they left in a huff. But in most cases, people can understand being a little tardy. I don’t know if it’s had a negative effect. I think I’m doing pretty ok! Though I wouldn’t recommend it. And in this case, the scheduled car service didn’t come, but I was ready. Life happens, and most people are pretty understanding.
Things I wouldn’t recommend being late for are obvious, however…job interviews, planes, etc.
I’m an entrepreneur, I don’t really play by the traditional rules.

  7. lol the above comments kill me, Claire i love you but im sorry have to agree with the above comments of course as an entrepreneur we don’t expect you to be stuffy and buttoned down especially when you work in a creative field. But even you have to admit that this outfit was inappropriate for a presentation after all being being a fashionista is about how to dress appropriately for a function. By the way being on time is a sign of respect no matter what occasion be on time and its never okay to be late even just meeting a friend.

  8. Loved your outfit Claire! So cute!

Sometimes you can’t help being late, shit happens! Congrats on all your success!!
