Despite the fact it was raining (and I had caught what felt like Hypothermia the night before), we got our started off running, heading into the city to grab shots with our photographer before parting ways to head to the shows. As you can see, I was playing NO games with the cold this time.Unfortunately the photoshoot fell through, so we just stuck around and waited out the weather until it was time for show. I was so excited to see Libertine, which is definitely now in my top 3 shows I’ve seen this week! There were a ton of looks I enjoyed, mostly for the playfulness the clothes exuded on the runway. I love color and prints, so it was nice to see a designer who loves exploring outside of the box. Definitely someone I can see like Solange or Anna Del Russo wearing!Other people were dressed in similar attire, and for the first day all week, I opted for a more refined neutral look. Allow me to just say setting powder was my best friend on Day 5, because otherwise there is NO way my makeup would have lasted through all the snow.A huge surprise happened while I was at Libertine, however, that made it all worth it: As I was coming into the stage area, I spotted Linda Fargo! Right after the show ended, she invited me to sit next to her where we got to grab this pretty epic selfie. She’s so nice (as everyone always says) and was absolutely stunning to look at.Next, I was off to a special presentation I had been invited to as a representative for FBD and myself. I headed up to Sushisama West Willage to attend Blogger and the Brand, a networking event for those in media as well as bloggers looking to promote their work. While there, I met a few up-and-coming black bloggers and designers, and got to grab a few photos and video footage on style! (Isn’t she giving you ALL the face?!)Last event for the night would take me back into the city, where I would get to attend the Gregorio Sanchez/ Pineda Covalin/Willfredo Gerardo Fall 2016 Women’s collection in sponsorship with Art Hearts Fashion. The venue was small and intimate, taking place into a church that had been converted with sultry lighting.Although I didn’t get to grab a photo, I accidentally knocked into Jason Derulo. I know, smooth Jame’. Nonetheless, he was super chill and was there to support his girlfriend, Daphne Joy, who was talking in one of the designer’s collections. She looked hot! While I enjoyed the collection and was excited about the experience, I was slightly disappointed by the lack of minority models in the collection, ESPECIALLY coming from designers who are Latino. While there were more than the mainstream NYFW design houses you may see, I wasn’t satisfied with the number. There’s always room for more. Then again, that’s why things such as our Fashion Show coming up excite me so much! It’s time we make changes occur, one person at a time.
Despite getting home after 1 am, I forced myself to stay up to work on extra posts and show reviews needing to go out. I was so tired typing, but I kept telling myself, Just one more post… Around 2:30 a.m., I collapsed from exhaustion as I had been running non-stop since 2:30 p.m. and then back up at 8!
Needless to say, I’m getting sad I only have one more day left of Fashion Week, but now’s not the time to slow down. Full speed ahead my loves, and I can’t wait to show you the photos from our Fashion Show!
