So I’m happy to announce that I’m a Toyota Lifestyle Ambassador!
The car brand tapped me to ‘Go Places’ in their vehicles, and take you guys along for the ride. I’m actually going to Cape Cod this afternoon for a golfing event, but drove a Highlander to visit Madam CJ Walker’s estate this past Friday!
In case you don’t know who Madam CJ Walker is, allow me to indulge you in a bit of Black History! Madam Walker was the first self made female millionaire in America. She built her fortune by developing and marketing a successful line of hair care products for black women. Her mansion, Villa Lewaro, was built in 1918 by Vertner Tandy, the Co-Founder of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Madam Walker built the mansion to stand as a tribute to the advancements of African-Americans, and to act as a pillar of inspiration for future generations. As an entrepreneur and black business woman, I was beyond inspired by the grandiose structure, and all its 34 rooms.
For my fun daytrip, I wore an Essendi leopard top, my Rag & Bone Jeans, and my Gianvito Rossi perspex pumps (I love ’em!). I finished my look with Covergirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor in Ever Red-y.
At any rate, it was a super fun and educational excursion! Many thanks to the National Trust for Historic Preservation for hosting the tour; read about their efforts to conserve and protect the home here. Also, read up on Madam CJ Walker at MadamCJWalker.com and check out a few historical flix below.
Also, stay tuned for my fun trips with Toyota.

“I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. From there I was promoted to the washtub. From there I was promoted to the cook kitchen. And from there I promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations. I have built my own factory on my own ground. I had to make my own living and my own opportunity. But I made it! Don’t sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them.” ~Madam CJ Walker
