On Wednesday, October 4th, 2019, the world lost a pioneering figure of class, grace and utmost style, Queen and Lady Diahann Carroll. Fashion Bomb Daily remembers and pays tribute to one of our iconic figures in fashion. The timeless diva was 84 years young, and passed away due to complications from cancer, her daughter reported to credible news sources.
The leading lady of African American actresses & style refinement was born in the Bronx on July 17th, 1935. Carroll was raised in Harlem, growing up with legendary greats like Billy Dee Williams. No doubt the young Queen was destined for Hollywood and greatness. She recieved numerous awards and much deserved recognition, including Naacp Image Wards, a Tony, a Golden Globe and also an Academy Award for her portrayal as a hard working single mother in the hit movie “Claudine” in 1974. Each role showed her versatility as a woman of glamour, but also empowerment and independence.
The singer, model and leading lady actress had so many power roles in Television and movies. She is also widely know for her role as Dominique Deveraux in the hit Television series “Dynasty.” Her appearance and character on the show changed the game of fashion for all women, putting luxury stand out gowns, paints suits, furs, and no-nonsense, lady like upscale clothing, flawless hair, makeup, class and sophistication in the forefront of style.
She will forever be missed, and in our hearts. We celebrate her legacy along with Tyler Perry, appropriately dedicating his new Tyler Perry Mega Movie Studio in Atlanta this past weekend in her honor at it’s grand opening. Long live the memory and unforgettable contributions in culture, art, activism, and fashion of the amazing Queen, Ms. Diahann Carroll.
