A few days ago, 20-year-old Turkish immigrant Arcan Cetin entered the cosmetics department of a Macy’s in a Washington Mall, and opened fire on unsuspecting shoppers. Four women and one man were killed in the senseless shooting.
One of the victims was identified as 16-year-old Sarai Lara, who had survived cancer as a young girl. According to reports, she and her older sister had gone shopping, and had split up to go to different stores.
Sarai was fortunate enough to beat cancer, only to then be killed at the hands of a gunman, who seemed to have no motive. It seems we can’t even shop without the threat of violence or bodily harm.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and victims of this tragedy.

*Just last night, our presidential candidates debated about a range of topics, including gun violence and gun control. When Hillary Clinton accepted her Democratic Nomination in July, she said, “I’m not here to take away your guns. I just don’t want you to be shot by someone who shouldn’t have a gun in the first place. We will work tirelessly with responsible gun owners to pass common-sense reforms and keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and all others who would do us harm.”
