Proving yet again that no one is exempt from the law, a Milan court found Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana guilty of tax evasion. The verdict came today; a result of of an extensive trial dating back to 2011.
While the initial case was thrown out, an appeal made by the prosecution to Italy’s Supreme Court found the designing duo in hot water yet again.
As to be expected, the attorneys of Dolce and Gabbana made vehement attempts to have the lawsuit dismissed. However, the odds were not in their favor this time around. Judge Antonella Brambilla sided with the prosecution, finding the pair guilty of failing to “declare euros 1 billion ($1.3 billion) in income to authorities.” They, along with a handful employees, have been sentenced to one year and eight months in prison.
The designers and their co-defendants are expected to appeal the verdict.
