Take a look at my top five:
1. Best Goody Bag: Betsey Johnson
Blame the recession, but goody bags are rarities these days. Back in 2006, it was customary for everyone to leave the show with a cute bag full of lipgloss and free coupons for laser hair removal. Now you’re lucky if you get show notes! At any rate, I was tickled pink when I saw a hot pink Goody Bag on my seat at the Betsey Johnson show (review to come!). Inside, a fresh pair of Betsey Johnson issue socks, Betsey perfume, and Stila black diamond mascara. It’s the little things, y’all.
2. Best Party: Naomi’s 25th Fashion Anniversary Party at Le Bain
Sure there were tons of parties going on during fashion week, but the one where I met diva extraordinaire Naomi Campbell would have to be my favorite. It wasn’t just that I met the notorious cell phone thrower (who is actually sweet as pie in person), but also about the black star power radiating from the room. I rode up the elevator next to Andre Leon Talley and brushed next to industry greats like Edward Enninful and Pat McGrath. Wow, was all I could say. I was happy to be in the building.
3. Best Interview: Joe Zee
Elle Magazine’s October cover featuring Gabourey Sidibe has come under considerable heat in the blogosphere, and I was happy to be able to ask Joe Zee, Elle’s creative director, about the motivation behind his styling choices. He actually seemed surprised there was an outcry, but was more than gracious in talking about his work. It’s not everyday you get to meet the creative director of one of the top fashion magazines in the nation, and not everyday you’re able to voice your concerns. Let’s hope it won’t be the last!
4. Most Exciting Show: LaQuan Smith
Could you tell how much I loved LaQuan Smith’s show? It was full of fireworks from beginning to end. From the wonderful clothes to the celeb sightings, the show had it all. I can’t wait for the next one!
5. Best Encounter: You Guys
I met so many of you in the tents and nothing makes me happier than to hear your thoughts on the site or to see you guys in the shows right alongside me. The site has come a long way since my first fashion week in 2006. Can’t wait to see what next season brings.
And if you have any comments on how we can improve Fashion Week coverage, leave a comment:) Now off to solve Mail Bombs…
