Show Review: Off-White Fall 2017

The present is pretty good for Virgil Abloh and the future looks even better. His Off-White brand has been catapulted into the sartorial stratosphere, there are rumors that he may be Givenchy’s next designer, and fashion icon Raf Simons even shaded him in a recent interview. His Fall 2017 collection demonstrated just how much Abloh has evolved thus far and that the possibilities are endless when it comes to the fate of his brand.

Bella Hadid opened the show in a collar-to-toe plaid getup—the kind you’d actually see her wearing while out and about. The timeless patterned continued on roomy coats, high-waist mini skirts, on-trend bandeaus, expertly-tailored suiting, and more.

Abloh played with the on-trend thigh-high slit, accenting sheer, red carpet-ready frocks paired with thigh-high boots, high-waist pencil skirts, and sexy strapless dresses.

If you don’t already own a crop jacket, that’s fine: Abloh gives you plenty here. Whether in denim or silk satin, the pieces had an 80’s and early 90’s flair, without feeling unabashedly retro.

Velvet is the texture of the moment, so it was no surprise to see the brand play with it on the runway in a gorgeous blue, crushed iteration. Utilitarian jackets, mini dresses, functional shells, a tuxedo-inspired dress, and high-waist mini skirt all featured the on-trend fabric.

Lace detailing spoke to the boudoir and the red carpet—sure to catch the eye of the brand’s growing legion of fans including Yara Shahidi, Karlie Kloss, and Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin.
