Show Review: Nomia Spring 2017

Graduating from the CFDA’s Incubator Program has seriously taken Nomia’s designs up more than a few notches. Yara Flinn’s collection for Spring 2017 demonstrates that: brimming with punchy colors and the kind of varied fabrications that she began exploring in Resort.

The brand goes full-throttle with knits—from a mockneck sweater with cutout detailing and elbow sleeves to a midi dress with the same aforementioned detail in a curve-hugging silhouette. When paired with high-waist pencil skirts with thigh-high slits and PVC-strap mules, the looks were modern, fresh, and most importantly functional.

Separates upped the wearability factor even further with halter tops boasting the same threaded drawstring accents of a classic bucket bag at the neckline, roomy trousers accented by edgy zipper detailing, v-neck shells with gathered detailing for both work and play, and an ankle-grazing navy coat that will live in any modern day woman’s wardrobe for years to come.

Naturally, my eyes were on the jumpsuits. They were plentiful with crisscross necklines, cropped lengths, and zip fronts. They were mostly sleeveless, which created the canvas for loads of layering.

This collection was so many things: accessible, crisp, current, classic. The designs could adapt to so many women’s style proclivities. And with contemporary price points that top out at around $800 for a coat, I’m certain that Nomia will gain many more fans once this assortment hits stores and online.
