For Fendi’s anniversary of almost a century in the game, the brand took journalists, influencers, buyers, its actual Couture customers, and more to Rome—using the famous Trevi Fountain as the show’s backdrop. Supermodels including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Yasmin Wijnaldum, and Mica Arganaraz stomped across a glass runway that was placed over one of the fountain’s courtly pools.
As expected, the craftmanship was on high, with fur interwoven into almost every showstopping look on display. A white, red carpet-ready gown placed the cozy texture on top of an open-knit which was accented with beige tulle insets.
Lagerfeld pulled inspiration from a quite charming and lovely place: Kay Nielsen’s 1914 East of the Sun and West of the Moon illustrated fairy tale book. The fashion icon then named the collection “Legends and Fairy Tales” to truly drive the point home. Gowns boasting fur embroidered stars, tulle ruffled necklines, and printed capes brought the influence’s magic to life.
Lagerfeld’s ability and capacity for turning the most whimsical of impetuses into actual clothes still continues to astound us. With the seamstresses (perhaps they’re better described as artisans) that work in Fendi’s atelier ready to cater to his every imaginative whim, it’s really no surprise that his collections continue to be so completely captivating and absorbing.
