Another Day, Another Hashtag: #BlackLivesMatter and the Importance of Voting This November

This morning, yet another black man, Keith Lamont Scott, was wrongfully gunned down, reading a book in his car while waiting for his son to be dropped off by a school bus.

Literally one day prior, Terence Crutcher was killed by police in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

These situations are heart wrenching, numbing, and infuriating. This year has been littered with instances of police brutality and misuse of power. It’s like a punch in the stomach to wake up every day and realize that things are not changing. Things are not getting better. And we all feel powerless to change things, beyond posting a picture or typing a hashtag on social media.

Last night, I attended a dinner hosted by Revolt for the Urban World festival. The room was chock full of influential film makers, producers, and content creators. While we grapple to figure out what we can really do to change the violent in our country, one thing we do have the power to do is vote.
