After her politically charged “Formation” video, Beyonce has scored another win by featuring Jillian Mercado, a model with muscular dystrophy, as one of the faces of her online store.
Mercado is signed with IMG models and has been modeling since 2014. She also has a fashion blog, Manufactured 1987, and works in the industry as a fashion editor.
Her first big break was in a Diesel campaign, after she submitted her picture and filled out a questionnaire about her personality . She had previously worked with the brand’s artistic director, Nicola Formichetti.
Mercado’s work in the fashion industry has served as an inspiration to the disabled community. Thanks to this new campaign she hopes to continue to change the dialogue surrounding those that are “wheelchair bound” to something more positive.
