Tina Turner (née Anna Mae Bullock) was born on November 26, 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee. As a youngster, she was an active member of her local church choir and started to cultivate a talent that reached far beyond the limits of her small hometown. Throughout life as a young adult, Tina garnered a partnership with fellow musician, Ike Turner, and quickly started to build an impressive following throughout the 1960s and 70s. With hits like “A Fool In Love“, “Proud Mary” and “Nutbush City Limits“, the duo appeared to be an unstoppable on the charts. Despite years of both personal and professional ties, Tina eventually ventured out on her own as her career continued its ascent – as a solo artist, her success ultimately surpassed that of her earlier years. Her time as an independent act gave birth to multiple smash singles including “What’s Love Got To Do With It”, “Private Dancer” and “The Best“.
Tina Turner embodied the true essence of a style chameleon. Throughout her successful career, she never shied away from the possibility of altering her image – whether she rocked big hair or her signature fringed dress, it was clear that her take on style was quite versatile. If you study her transformations over the decades, this style maven consistently evolved. From funky, printed suits to over-the-top accessories, Tina knew a thing or two about rocking what she felt was cool. In addition, I also believe her striking charisma and undeniable confidence also played a pivotal role in the execution of her looks. Her sartorial high-notes are timeless – inspiring today’s biggest names including Beyonce- and her elegance and poise live on throughout her legacy. Side note: Can we get into those legs?!
Yes! You can never go wrong with Tina Turner! She’s served as both a style (and personal) inspiration to women all over while her fearless and fun approach to fashion continues to resonate throughout the world.
