Happy Thursday (and happy first day of New York Fashion Week, wooooo!).
As you know, a few weeks ago, I was blessed to interview Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage about her music, style, and more. See the video below:
She wants to be remembered as a global artist. She says, “I don’t want to be remembered as one of the biggest female artists out of Africa, I just want to be remembered as one of the biggest artists period. [I want to be known as] one of the people that was part of the revolution that happened with Afro music to the world. I also want to be remembered as a very strong woman and someone who inspired a lot of people that regardless of the challenges we go through as women, you can still achieve a lot. It’s a long road and it’s a slow race. It definitely is about pacing yourself and never ever giving up.”
Love it!
Indulge in the video above and let me know what you think!
Anna Wintour knows how to make everything fashionable! Last night, she hosted a runway show with Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin that featured looks from Joseph Altuzarra, Tory Burch, Georgina Chapman, Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell Osborne, Prabal Gurung, Marc Jacobs, Monique Pean, Tanya Taylor, Thakoon, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, and more—in support of Clinton’s presidential bid. Charlotte Tilbury was the brains behind the beauty looks, which were just as standout as the fashion. Here, each face and how to do it yourself:
The Rocker Rebel: Featuring Marc Jacobs
Strong brows (inspired by Joan Jett), a contoured, matte chocolate brown eye, and bare lips were on the agenda for this vignette. Tilbury used her Legendary Brows and Brow Lift in one shade darker than the models’ normal brow colors. Eyes were smoky with the Sophisticate Smoke shade: work the Blender Brush both backwards and forwards across the eyelid for a punk-rock effect. Charlotte utilized the Rock Chick palette Smoke shade for the darker-skinned models and finished their faces with layers of mascara. Lip Magic moisturized their lips, and for some Penelope Pink and Nude Kate were combined to get that barely there look.
The Varsity Team: Featuring Tanya Taylor and Brett Heyman
A fresh and youthful look was on the menu here. Fake freckles were strewn across the cheeks and nose by using Lip Cheat Liner in Foxy Brown and no contour was at play. Full Fat Lashes were used for a playful face and a pink blush came to life with the Beach Stick in Las Salinas on the cheeks.
The Social Set: Featuring Altuzarra
This look was all about polish and refinement: a nod to that classic Uptown beauty. Flawless skin with groomed brows were created to offset gilded golden eyes. Charlotte used her moisturizing Magic Cream and a bit of foundation, hiding any imperfections for the perfect #selfie that is so near and dear to the social set’s hearts. Her signature Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk and Bitch Perfect KISSING lipstick came together effortlessly on the models’ pouts. And their cheeks were given a rosy pop with Love Glow.
Flower Child: Starring Thakoon
Here’s the recipe for this face: glowing skin, fake freckles, curled lashes, no mascara, and the Beach Stick in Formentera for some sunkissed color on the cheeks.
These ankle-grazing stunners feature a 4.5-inch stiletto heel, 100% genuine leather and metallic grommet details. Interested in copping your own? Get them here!
Style up the ‘Zoila’ with your favorite mini dress, distressed denim, culottes or even a bomb pencil skirt!
This battle was a toughie. I mean, Kae and Mel B pulled off completely different looks; therefore, I’m riding with both of them!
Kanye West kept his Season 4 show top secret, only allowing celebrities and select members of the press to behold his latest collection, held at Roosevelt Island in New York. Despite the outrage his call for ‘multiracial’ models elicited, loads of brown beauties and women of various races populated a grassy field, clad in subtle nude and brown tones, surrounded by a white runway.
Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner sat front row and snapped selfies in cream colored and beige ensembles accessorized by suede and clear boots; a foreshadowing of what viewers could expect this season.
The offering didn’t differ much from what the Kardashian/Jenners had on tap: Yeezy Season 4 featured khaki coats uplifted by plexi heels, army fatigues and boots of varying lengths (thigh high and ankle), and sweater dresses, mock knit bikinis, and parkas in cream and white:
Teyana Taylor showcased her abs in a black cut out unitard and booties, followed by Chanel Iman, also clad in black.
The show was not free of its mishaps; according to one report, a few models fainted in the heat. Several of the shoes broke, leaving models hobbling down the runway, or simply taking off their shoes so they could complete the loop without bodily harm. The sight of step impaired models was somewhat dismaying, given the popularity of Yeezy’s shoe selections (though we’re sure West will correct for this by time of production).
But overall the show offered a sleek continuum of the sporty, minimalist, monochromatic aesthetic for which Kanye’s Yeezy’s collections are known. Expect sheer, underboob, sports bras, leggings, close fit cocktails, and unitards in natural color palettes.
The supermodels were out at The Target + IMG New York Fashion Week Kick-Off Event. On-trend bombers, Fall-perfect booties, cozy jackets, and crop tops were all on display.
Chanel walked in Yeezy as well! But first, she defied Summer dressing in a pink fur coat, grey crop top, destructed cropped jeans, and metallic lace-up booties. Hot!
Joan Smalls paired a sleeveless knit turtleneck with cutoffs and strappy, knee-high sandals. Look at that face! She’s stunning.
Queen Latifah kept it simple and chic in a black and white ensemble.
Emily Ratajkowski was missing half of her dress! Just kidding. Her frock boasted a large circular cutout that left little to the imagination. She’s daring enough to pull this off, but I wouldn’t try this at home folks.
Jane Siskin’s Cinq à Sept label burst onto the scene with Pre-Fall 2016: a line that has already garnered fans including Bella Hadid, Karolina Kurkova, and Chriselle Lim. Her latest for Spring 2017 layered it on—quite literally. Neutral tones played against hot pink and chartreuse and chunky, lace-up boots anchored the looks with edge and that quintessential New York City grit.
A chic crop top boasted a choker neckline, spelling out the French phrase, “Oui or Non?”—speaking to the cheeky, come hither sensibility of the collection’s boudoir-inspired flair. A high-waist ruffle skirt featured a slit cut up to the thigh and a pair of high-waist, paneled leggings were emblazoned with “Rendez-vous Chez Moi”. Talk about flirty.
Florals were juxtaposed against classic stripes, offset by another elegant choker in velvet—uplifted with “Ce Soir” text. An ankle-grazing leopard coat felt like the perfect, bold transition piece once warmer temps abound, though an off-the-shoulder cargo jacket felt like something we’ve already seen quite a bit in Resort: from Monse specifically. It was a gorgeous piece nonetheless and will definitely come in at a more affordable price point for those looking to capture the look without completely shattering the bank.
An off-the-shoulder, button-front dress with a tie-waist and smocked neckline felt decidedly modern and fresh layered over wide-leg, snap-front pants. And the silhouette was iterated on in a more curve-hugging fashion, in a zip-front denim dress that was just the right piece for a night out or fashionable fête.
Waist-cinching belts were beautiful, but felt extraneous in the midst of all the lovely layering and eye-catching accents. But one look that did get excess right was a black bustier top paired with a white lace-up, crop top with billowing sleeves—anchored with high-waist flares with seamed detailing. It was a beautiful blend of retro and modernity and wearing each piece alone would be equally impactful.
The assortment seemed easily flexible into the modern day woman’s wardrobe, brimming with the kind of ease and sultriness that is standout, but not overbearing. The designs literally felt like pieces you might see on fashion’s “It” girls right now: a very good sign and a pronouncement that might come to fruition by Fashion Month’s end.
Model Hailey Baldwin attended W Magazine’s ‘It Girl’ Luncheon wearing a Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 White Lace Peplum Blouse and White Lace Cigarette Pants:
The white blouse in chantilly lace is layered with strips of chiffon and embroidered with guipure flowers, paired with trousers in white guipure.
Real models never smile! Hailey kept a straight face as she posed in her white, angelic ensemble.
In love with this look. She looks great!
What do you think? Are you feelin’ Hailey’s outfit?
Kylie Jenner is scouring the streets of New York as she indulges in some of the best shows Fashion Week has to offer! Earlier today, the reality starlet channeled her inner diva as she rocked oversized sunnies, an Off-White Printed Leaf Coat from the brand’s Pre-Fall 2016 collection, a plunging cream jumpsuit from FBD fave LaQuan Smith’s Fall 2016 line and the highly-coveted Yeezy Season 2 lucite ankle strap sandals.
King Kylie’s elegant one-piece features an extremely deep v-cut neckline, a body-hugging fit and exaggerated bell sleeves. Super cute!
I’m pretty sure we’re all familiar with the Kanye West’s Season 2 groundbreaking lucite heels. We’ve seen some of Tinseltown’s hottest fashionistas (including his wife Kim Kardashian West and Chrissy Teigen) slay in these transparent must-haves and they’ve officially become a staple in street style around the world. I mean, they go with everything – how can you not love them?
I love this look on Kylie! Everything about it screams fierceness. Go girl!
