4 Ways to Style Your Sporty Sunglasses for Everyday Fashion

Sporty sunglasses are used to improve athletic performance, provide eye protection during outdoor activities, and become trendy fashion accessories.

Sporty sunglasses are used to improve athletic performance, provide eye protection during outdoor activities, and become trendy fashion accessories. According to market research from Mordor Intelligence, the sports sunglasses market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.5% over the next five years. Sports products have seen rapid growth and adaptation in recent years due to rising awareness about physical fitness, adventure experiences, and developing skills and abilities.

Today, sporty sunglasses are recognizable for their oversized lens shapes and designs. This is because some sports sunglasses are designed to provide a wide enough field of view for athletes and wearers to see without the sunglasses’ frames obstructing their view. Because of their particular look and design, it can be intimidating for people to wear them as part of their everyday ensemble or on casual nights out. Fortunately, it is definitely possible to use sporty shades to compliment your outfit, even if you aren’t going out fishing or doing any sport outdoors. In this post, we’ll be sharing four fun ways to style your sporty sunglasses for everyday fashion.

Complementary colors

Today’s sporty sunglasses are designed to be as stylish as they are performance-boosting and come in more than the usual muted or dark colors. Oakley’s line of sunglasses are notorious for their otherworldly shapes and designs, matched only by the bold color options offered. Depending on your everyday style, it can help to match the lens and frame colors to complement your outfits.

The Sutro, for example, comes in 14 lens and frame colors, as well as two photochromic or transition lens options. These lens colors range from the brand’s Prizm Black to the loud yellow Prizm 24k. If you’re feeling brave and want to play with more hues, the Prizm Road lens option blends bright yellow, red, and purple. If you don’t want your sporty sunglasses to be too distracting from your ensemble, blending your colors can help give your look more clarity and coherence.

Match Them with denim

You can never go wrong with good old denim if you’re not confident about mixing and matching your colors. This is a great styling option if you don’t mind your sporty shades becoming your outfit’s center of attention. Pairing wacky-colored sports sunglasses with a pair of blue jeans or even a denim jacket to match can give your whole look a splash of color. Alternatively, your denim look would look great with simple black sports shades for a more subdued look.

Another way to style your sporty sunglasses with a denim look is by capitalizing on going full retro. There’s something vintage about wearing denim, and the oversized, 90s to 2000s look of most sports sunglasses today can help put the look together. You can also go the extra mile by accessorizing with a belt or purse that matches your shades’ colors.

Back to the 90s

As briefly mentioned above, one of the potential reasons that sporty sunglasses have become trendy again is due to nostalgia. The oversized lens shapes and bold colors certainly call back to the 90s and 00s raves. If you’re not a fan of denim, you can pair your big oversized shades with equally big and bold silhouettes. Harkening back to the 90s, this means baggy jeans, oversized jackets and hoodies, and large shoulders.

Aside from playing with colors, matching the size of your sporty sunglasses with your clothing can help create a more dynamic and youthful look. The pronounced silhouettes of large, oversized clothing and the harsh angles of a wide lensed sunglasses are sure to turn heads wherever you go. Other aspects of the 90s that go well with the sporty sunglass trend would be faux leather and fur jackets.

Nightly neoncore

Finally, what better way is there to play with the outlandish colors and shapes of sporty sunglasses than to embrace neoncore? While almost frowned upon in the mid-2000s, the garish bright colors comparable to highlighter pens have made a huge comeback in recent years. In fact, celebrities who opt to represent the neon phenomenon tend to go all the way by finding the brightest neon clothing they can.

The sporty sunglasses fit right in with the neoncore trend thanks to their bright colors and bold designs. For people daring enough to wear a head-to-toe neon ensemble, a pair of neon sporty shades is an essential accessory. Otherwise, if you’re color-blocking your neons with solid blacks or grays, choosing sporty shades with colored lenses and black frames can help punctuate your look.

NYFW: Sally LaPointe Designs for the Best Dressed School Girl for her ‘Class of LaPointe 24’ Collection

A yellow school bus with bold lettering that read, “LAPOINTE” pulled up to a loft style building on Broadway in New York, letting off he most stylish models who could easily be classified as “It-girls.”

In fact, the theme for designer Sally LaPointe’s latest Fall ’24 RTW collection was all about going back-to-school, and stealing the spotlight as ‘best dressed’. A mission which could definitely be accomplished based on the fashion-forward looks we saw go down the runway.

LaPointe stayed true her DNA, and we saw rich monochromatic palettes and feather detailing on dresses, sleeves and luxe boleros. We also saw the incorporation of different textural fabrics that felt transitional from day to night.

While some people may correlate a back-to-school wardrobe with a uniform or a dress code, LaPointe’s University promoted autonomy. The collection was also a stark reminder that in order to be remembered, one must stand out.

Along with classical colors like black and white, LaPointe introduced vibrant hues for Fall ’24 including neon green, baby blue and peach that commanded attention.

Not only was the clothing sensational, but the accessories were also on theme including studded and spiked backpacks that were from a collaboration with a New York jewelry store called Chrishabana.

NYFW: Christian Siriano Fall/Winter ’24 Collection Runway Show Combined Glamour, Sci-Fi, and Modernity

Season after season, Christian Siriano continues to surprise us with calculated risks, and in his latest Fall/Winter 2024 collection he reimagined glamour in such a brilliant and captivating way.

Inspired by the 1965 novel and subsequent films, ‘Dune’, Siriano opted for futurism, as he re-envisioned what evening wear would look like in a sci-fi, apocalyptic desert.

Think vibrant burnt orange and red hues, liquid metallics and black shimmering tinsel gracing models frame as they strutted down the runway at the Plaza Hotel in New York city.

As an apprentice to some of the greats like the late Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen during his earlier years as a designer, Siriano developed a signature brand of his own that quickly gained popularity among the masses.

In keeping with the essence of our Siriano custom, the Fall/Winter collection balances power and strength with soft, romantic elegance.” Said Siriano in a press release.

During the runway show, his vision felt more forward this season with statement pieces in full overload that we could definitely see on the red-carpet or at the Met Gala.

Fashion News: CFDA President CaSandra Diggs Has Officially Resigned from her Executive Position

In August 2020, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced CaSandra Diggs as the President of their Organization, and after 3 years of being at the helm, Diggs has chosen to resign from her executive role.

The news comes at interesting time with black history month and fashion week in progress, and has certainly caused speculation about what transpired, or influenced Diggs decision.

With over two decades of serving as the CFDA Chief Administrative and Financial Officer, and then being promoted to President by the excellence she embodied, her future with the CFDA looked promising.

In a statement released yesterday evening, the CFDA told WWD,

“The CFDA and CaSandra Diggs have parted ways. We appreciate her service and wish her the best in future pursuits. The organization’s continued focus is on our mission to support and strengthen American fashion by amplifying creative excellence, business longevity, and positive impact. We have no additional comment at this time.”

It’s important to note that when Diggs initially accepted her role, we were in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter Movement.

According to the New York Times, “On June 1 2020, Tom Ford, the chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America wanted the board to address the Black Lives Matter protests against racial injustice, and systemic racism in the fashion industry. ” A statement from the CFDA was released 2 days later that stated,

“Having a clear voice and speaking out against racial injustice, bigotry and hatred is the first step, but this is not enough,” it read, listing four initiatives to follow. Those included an employment program charged with placing black talent in all sectors of the fashion business to help achieve a racially balanced industry.

Although many organizations like the CFDA made a pledge to promote more diversity in the fashion industry, after the BLM movement died down, so did their pursuit to be more inclusive. It’s almost like it was a trend to amplify black voices of marginalized groups until it wasn’t.  Fast forward to today, and there’s still a lack of black representation in the fashion industry.

Our Fashion Bomb daily readers chimed in on instagram regarding the news. @Tndivaesq wrote, “Baby, the post-pandemic racial reckoning is ending with warp speed.” While @fancyfrancois expressed, “It’s feeling like they stressed me out, so I have to do what’s best for my mental health🤦‍♀️.”

We were certainly rooting for Diggs as seeing women of color like her at the top is often scarce and limited. However, who’s to say what trials and tribulations she endured due to simply being a minority.

Despite Diggs resignation, we’re still advocating for her and wish her the absolute best in her next endeavors.

Some of our favorite celebrities took risks and abandoned traditional evening attire, like Beyoncé who opted for a western Louis Vuitton Fall-Winter ’24 look by Pharrell Williams. In addition to Ice Spice who gave us nostalgic vibes in a denim and fur Baby Phat ensemble by Kimora Lee Simmons.

It was refreshing to see celebrities embrace their own style in such an unapologetic way. Perhaps “unapologetic” could have been the theme of the evening hence Jay-Z’s iconic speech as he accepted his Dr. Dre Global Impact award.

On the Scene: The 2024 15 Percent Pledge Gala Featuring Kelly Rowland in Benchellal, Jordyn Woods in Harbison.Studio, Claire Sulmers in Matopeda, Aurora James in Christopher John Rogers and More!

Held in Los Angeles for the first time ever, the third annual 15 Percent Pledge gala brilliantly captured black excellence in all of its glory as celebs gathered inside of Paramount Studios.

Founded by Creative Director and Activist Aurora James, the pledge is a call for retailers to implement diversity and inclusion by contributing 15% percent of their shelve space to Black owned brands. According to their website, “with over 28 retailers, they’ve been able to shift almost $14B of revenue to Black-owned businesses.”

Companies like Nordstrom, Sephora, Vogue and Bloomingdales are among businesses to pledge, and the list continues to grow.

Fashion Bomb CEO, Claire Sumers arrived to the ‘black tie black designer‘ extravaganza in a Matopeda gown that was sent all the way from Nigeria. You’ll also be pleased to know that the Matopeda’s collection is available at FashionBombdailyshop.com.

Claire caught up with some of the brightest stars in the industry including the beautiful Kelly Rowland who looked stunning in hues of chocolate and hints of gold.

The ‘Coffee” singer wore a Mohamed Benchellal gown that had a unique structure and modern silhouette. We live for a bob haircut on Kelly and she didn’t disappoint. Her gold statement earrings and lioness rings were the perfect finishing touches.

Actress, Tracey Ellis Ross also opted for brown tones in a Fear of Gold fur coat that was stenched in with a leather belt, and paired with mocha colored Saint Laurent heels.

The woman of the hour, Aurora James opted for a Christopher John Rogers look that included a cream cropped blouse that had a teal 3D flower, to go with the matching avant-garde skirt. She looked incredible with her teal scrappy sandals and Bulgari jewels that perhaps exuded wealth and royalty.

Similar to Aurora James, Jordyn Woods also chose to go with neutrals, this time with Los Angeles based designer Harbison.Studio. Her multi-colored buttons down her dress was a nod to Harbison’s signature, and her black gloves gave us “black-tie realness.”

The Woods took selfies with Claire who they had the pleasure of hanging out with during Paris Fashion week last September.

Aurora’s right hand partner, Emma Grede who is the Chairwoman of the 15-percent Pledge and the Co-founder of Good American slayed in a black Aliette blazer dress that had a 3D organza rose down the side.

Grede welcomed attendees including model Ashley Graham who showed off her beautiful curves in an emerald green sequins and feathered gown that was characterized with cutouts.

Sabrina Idris kept things simple yet refined and polished in a Kwame Adusei maxi dress with pointy toe stilettos and a black mini bag.

Media Personality Angela Rye glistened in a gold Dolce & Gabbana look that had a built in corset bodice and felt futuristic.

Also in attendance was Mielle Organics CEO, Monique Rodriguez who illuminated in a Christopher Rogers dress that had colorful dimensions and paired exceptionally well with her Judith Leiber clutch.

The 15 Percent Pledge is a very important cause to ensure the major retailers make a commitment to showcase African American brands that aren’t always given equal opportunity to flourish due to systematic racism.

It’s emplaced to make sure that the companies and stores we shop at are to doing their due diligence to help facilitate inclusiveness, which is why this is an nonprofit organization that we stand behind and so should you.
