What to Expect at Tonight’s Comme de Garçons themed Met Gala!

Today is the day we wait at the edge of our seats for the reveal of what is certain to be, one of the most anticipated red carpet events, the Met Gala! Stars and their glam teams are gearing up to give their rendition on the theme of the night, “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons”.

Kawakubo’s exhibit will be the first from a living designer in over 30 years since Yves Saint Laurent did so in 1983. Mannequins will be displayed at eye level allowing for a more intimate experience for museum-goers. Andrew Bolton tells Vogue, “Rei Kawakubo is one of the most important and influential designers of the past forty years. By inviting us to rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, recreation, and hybridity, she has defined the aesthetics of our time.”

Katy Perry and Pharell Williams are set as co-hosts for what’s sure to be an eventful night. The two are no strangers to making a statement on the red carpet, so it certainly fits the bill (can’t wait to see how they show out!).

Kawakubo will be an honorary chair along with the former ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy. At the realm of it all will be none other than, Anna Wintour.

Though we are itching to know how the stars will make their debuts on the red carpet, we are certain it will be nothing short of unconventional. Kawakubo is revered as an avant-garde designer known to push the envelope, so folks, we are in for one dramatic night!

Tonight is the night to look past the form fitting whimsical gowns and think outside the box; be ready for show-stopping stunners, that will wow! To give you a taste, here are a few looks from her previous collections:

Be sure to keep up with us on social media @fashionbombdaily to get first dibs on how the stars step it up and tackle the theme for tonight’s extravaganza!

Her chiffon silk floral dress features a midi length, plunge neckline, ruffle trim, dip waist, frill accent at the hem, and a built-in short underskirt.

This was different for her and I loved it!

Monday Motivation: Enjoy the Journey

Question: If you were riding in a car on your way to the mall, would you listen to the radio and enjoy some music on the way there?  Or would you wait until you reach the mall and then turn the music on?  Chances are (if you are a music lover), you will enjoy your music on the way to the mall.  So why not treat life the same way?

Life is not about the destination, it’s about enjoying the ride on the way to the destination.  I hear people talk all the time about what they are going to do when they finally accomplish a goal or reach a certain status.  My question to them is, “What are you doing in the meantime?”  Life shouldn’t be on hold until you reach a desired point.  Life is a road that is meant to be traveled and lived at all stages because you never know when that road will change or end.

Don’t wait for the perfect moment to live.  Enjoy the music on the way to that perfect moment.  Living on the way to your perfect moment will make your perfect moment that much better.

Happy Monday Positive People!

xoxo

On The Scene: Wearable Art Gala 2017

On Saturday evening, Hollywood was all abuzz as the stars stepped out in support of Mrs. Tina Knowles- Lawson, and husband Richard Lawson’s Wearable Art Gala.  With the California African American Museum set as the backdrop for the auspicious occasion, quite a handful of our favorite celebs stepped out in outfits celebrating art and creativity.  Let’s take a look at who shined for this star-studded event!

The hosts, Richard and Tina Lawson posed for cameras while sharing a warm embrace.  Mama Tina wore a strapless, mermaid gown crafted with an abundance of leaves, while Richard donned a black and red sequined blazer.  So cute, these two!

Of course, Beyoncé was there.  Though she didn’t walk the carpet, the soon to be mother of twins looked stunning in this shot while inside.  Queen Bey wore a lovely red Stello ‘Aurora’ gown and an ornate headpiece laden with flowers and butterflies.  She looks regal, doesn’t she?Not too far behind, and keeping a low profile, was Jay-Z, clad in a sleek Gucci fall 2016 powder blue suit.  The man looks sharp everytime.Solange was her artistic, radiant self in a deep plum Issey Miyake construction.  Minimal makeup and white boots completed her look.Kelly Rowland channelled Blue Ivy’s  2016 VMA look in this frothy, lavender Monsoori gown.  Lorraine Schwartz jewels, a Gebede clutch and Buscemi sneakers tied Kelly’s fun ensemble together.  And can we take one second to get into that lavender wig to match? Kelly made the night even more special when she posed with the incomparable, outspoken U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 43rd disctrict and member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Maxine Waters.  When she’s not defending the rights of African Americans and speaking boldly against the current presidency, she’s down for a good party.Michelle Williams was in the building, looking lovely in a beautifully embellished Esé Azénabor couture column gown.  Sleek hair, subtle smokey eye and dazzling earrings do Michelle so much justice.June Ambrose came through to celebrate, wearing a fuschia Christian Siriano prefall 2016 gown.  Extravagant bell sleeves and a dramatic bow tie into the affair so well, no?Singers and sisters, Chloe x Halle posed in pleated, metallic numbers for the night’s soirée.Empire star and recording artist, Serayah, was a doll in a rose gold embellished empire waist gown and fringed coat by Jenny Packham.  Loved her hair and soft, glowy makeup.Meagan Good also showed her support, stunning in an emerald colored gown accented with navy lace detailing at the bust.Draya Michele was on tap for the evening’s festivities as well, wearing a light pink halter gown.  Her hair and makeup were beautiful, though I wish there was a little more drama somewhere in the look considering the event’s theme.Bianca Lawson made certain she came prepared in a gorgeous navy and silver brocade gown, replete with  three dimensional butterflies affixed about the bust and ruffle of the skirt.  So creative!Actress Tasha Smith brought a little fever to Instagram before hitting up the Wearable Art Gala, posing in her doorway while wearing a sexy black lace bardot dress by Valdrin Sahiti.  Slay, Tasha! And last, but certainly not least, are EJ Johnson, his mother Cookie, and father, the legendary ‘Magic’ Johnson.  The family posed for pics pre-gala……but of course, EJ needs a red carpet moment all to himself.  What better way to show off that fabulous Gucci resort 2017 jacket?Looks like fun times were definitely had by all.  Who were your favorites?

Splurge: Kim Kardashian’s The Ellen Show Balenciaga Resort 2017 Black Asymmetrical Twist One Shoulder Sleeveless Dress

Kim Kardashian made an appearance on the The Ellen Show, clad in a $1,265 Balenciaga Resort 2017 Black Asymmetrical Twist One Shoulder Sleeveless Mini Dress:

The reality-tv star and entrepreneur beamed brilliantly, rocking a center path shoulder length bob and rounded out her beauty notes with an effortless ‘barely there’ makeup look.

Her saucy dress was listed as ‘Look 27’ for the brand’s Resort 2017 presentation.

Balenciaga’s sleeveless dress comes in a chic silhouette, perfect for adding a sexy note to evenings out.

An asymmetrical twist-style detailing to the shoulder strap lends an undressed quality that is uniquely alluring.

Cute!

Look of the Week (The Top 5 Most Liked Looks on Instagram): Jennifer Lopez in Julien Macdonald, Michelle Williams in Charles Andron, Skai Jackson in Self Portrait, and More!

I was so busy yesterday with Sheen Magazine’s Legendary Weekend that I plumb forgot about Look of the Week!
All good, let’s dive right on in with the top 5 most liked looks, as determined by you, the reader:

1. Jennifer Lopez in Julien MacDonald: `14,406 likes

J. Lo is literally body goals, style goals, life goals all in one. Like fine wine, she gets better with time, as witness by the Julien MacDonald stunner she wore to the Latin Billboard awards.

The intricate design showed off her frame by way of hip cut out and a high slit. Jennifer oozes sex appeal. This look was definitely a winner!

2. Michelle Williams in Charles Andron: 13,487 Likes

Michelle Williams is undergoing a style revolution, thanks to new stylist J. Bolin. She has been hitting us hard everyday with well tailored, flattering looks, like this suit by Charles Andron. We’re loving the glow up and so are you!

3.Kelly Rowland in Uel Camilo Official: 12,234 Likes

Kelly Rowland appeared on the Real in a pink ensemble by Uel Camilo. Comments were mixed, but your likes didn’t lie–you double tapped your way to over 12,000 likes. The color is amazing, and of course Kelly stays slaying. This time was no exception!

4. Skai Jackson in Self Portrait: 11,639 Likes

Skai Jackson had one of my favorite looks of the week in this pretty prink frilly Self Portrait dress, styled by Apuje. I’m a consummate girly girl, so this look certainly spoke to me. It doesn’t hurt that Skai is as cute as can be! This look was bomb!

5. Lala in Meshki Boutique: 7,710 Likes

Though she’s dealt with some personal drama as of late, Lala’s fierce shows no sign of slowing down. After news broke about her divorce, she looked sad for a short minute, then came back with the heat! She didn’t spend a ton of money to look hot–her chain addled pencil skirt is a steal at $75. She made it look like a million bucks!

And that does it!
