Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Mimi from Atlanta

So you the readers have spoken, and Bombshells of the Day are back on!
Call me naïve, but I didn’t realize how many people love the feature and come here specifically for that! As I said, I still might not post every day. If we really don’t have anyone ‘bomb’ (or close to bomb), I’ll abstain for the day. But most days, yes, we will have a Bombshell.
Which brings us to today’s beauty: Mimi, a Manhattan transplant originally from ATL:

She says, “I’m entering myself as “Fashion Bombshell of the Day” because I get complimented on my style by men and women alike.”

“.. I credit it to the classic, yet modern way that I dress. It’s figure flattering, sleek, and elegant but ALWAYS with a pop of color somewhere.”

“… I’m not very big on accessories-I’m working on that for 2011! However, I love my rose gold Michael Kors watch.”

“… I frequently rock American Apparel, Asos, Steve Madden, & Betsey Johnson. My fave luxury brands are Chanel, Michael Kors and Vince Camuto.”

“…Hope you enjoy! Check me out! Also, you can find me on twitter: @coutureangel. Ciao for now!”

Following you…now. Stay tuned for a tweet from @thefashionbomb.

Fashion Discussion: About that Bombshell of the Day…

Hey!
So Fashion Bombshell of the Day has gone through many highs and lows. We’ve turned off comments, introduced a voting system, asked participants to opt in or out of comments, and requested readers to be nice and respectful.
Still, it seems every time we showcase someone whose definition of chic might not meld with the mainstream or veers more hmm than hot, we get more than a handful of hurtful comments.

The result? Bruised feelings and readers hesitant to submit for fear they will be torn down by an exacting fashion jury.
Fashion Bombshell of the Day was always intended to be celebratory, a show-and-tell of multicultural chic from across the globe. Most of the time it is; but sometimes it devolves into something the site doesn’t stand for.

The goal of the Fashion Bomb is to uplift and showcase fashionistas of color in a positive, beautiful light. Bombshell of the Day comments can be very negative; thus tarnishing the spirit upon which this site was founded.

I enjoy Bombshells as much as you do, but will have to take responsibility and curate submissions more thoroughly. We’ll most likely continue with the feature, but relegate it to a weekly an every other day or weekly, not daily basis. Comments are on, as is voting. But I will ensure that Bombshells showcased are only the best and most fierce representations of the Fashion Bomb brand and Fashion Bomb reader.

I enjoy doing this, and want this to be a nurturing, positive, and encouraging corner in cyberspace! Hope you do too…
Smootches!

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Candy Renee from Jamaica

So I was just invited to attend Style Week in Jamaica at the end of the month! The event will showcase some of the best talent from the island. Should be interesting.
Lucky me, my passport just expired…so while I go ahead and renew that, I present you with Candy Renee, a stylist and blogger from Jamaica:

Candy’s friend actually submitted her for our favorite feature once before. This time around, she sent in a few flicks on her own.

She says, “I want to be an example that Caribbean girls and girls from small islands can be apart of the fashion industry no matter how big the industry is.”

“…The fact that I am Jamaican confuses a lot of people because they think coming from a small island such as Jamaica we couldn’t possibly know anything about the fashion world.”

“… I am based In New York but It took me a while to get here and I just want people to know that island ladies do have style and we know fashion.”

Preach! See more of Candy Renee’s words and style on her blog, www.candyrenee.com.

Claire’s Life: Imagine More with Manfrotto at Soho Skylight

Hey Hey!
So last night my homie Hyun invited me to an invite he co-hosted for tripod and camera accessories brand Manfrotto. I wasn’t familiar at all with Manfrotto, but knew Hyun was hip to all things cool, so decided to dip in with my photog friend Rasaan and see what was what. I was delightfully surprised by the amount of cool things to do–from taking pictures to posing in front of a drum set–and by the very chic crowd in attendance.
I did a double take when I spied Elle Magazine Style Director Kate Lanphear,  and had to ask for a picture.

The trendsetter was sweet as pie, and looked chic with her signature bright platinum haircut. We traded compliments (I loved her studded jacket; she my Patricia Field spiked ring), and chatted fashion before she went on her way.
I also caught up with Bronx native Joy Bryant, who looked relaxed in a maxi skirt and army inspired jacket:

Joy and I actually talked for quite a while, trading stories about Paris (she got her start modeling there). Though she’s internet averse (she’s not on Twitter), my homie Sian-Pierre and I might have convinced her to start a Tumblr. At any rate, she’s super nice and gawjus in person.

It was a fun night!

Camera fanatics: if you want accessories, look no further than Manfrotto. They have a plethora of tripods, clamps, LED lights, and bags to make your next shoot go super smooth. See more at www.manfrotto.com.

Smootches!

*Shout out to Hyun for extending the invite…!

My outfit (if you care): Spring 2011 Zara Camouflage jacket (totes inspired by Rihanna at Coachella), white H&M v-neck tee , Guess Nicole Cigarette Jeans, YSL Downtown Tote, Stuart Weitzman Platswoon Pumps, Lia Sophia Hoops, Steven Shein Faux Real Necklace & Loose Spike Ring (both purchased at Patricia Field). Lipstick: MAC Film Noir + a coat of MAC Wrong Spell gloss.
*Thx to Rasaan for snapping pix!
