The wool cardigan is richly embellished with 19 different appliqués, all representing one of the collection’s recurring motifs: birds, fish, flowers, hearts, butterflies. The phrase “Space Boy” is applied across the back.
Dope cardigan! A bit on the pricey side but probably worth the splurge for some.
So I try out a lot of beauty products (and promise I’m going to start posting more reviews soon!).
Last night, I tried out Duo Body Cleansers, a brand new product from Olay, Old Spice, and Ivory!
The revolutionary product is basically a dual sided shower poof: one side is smooth and the other side has a rough texture, perfect for exfoliation! It has a flexible cleaner and product inside, so you just add water and lather up! The patented multi-cleansing technology delivers a 2x better clean vs. your basic body wash + a puff.
It smelled wonderful (it has 3-4x more fragrance than its competitors) and was easy to use (apparently you can use it up to 30 times!). This is a great product to bring with you when you’re traveling. Just pop it in your bag and go!

No Black History Month Tribute would be complete without including designer Patrick Kelly.
Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Kelly studied art and black history at Jackson State University before attending Parsons School of Design. He designed for a Rive Gauche boutique and Benetton before becoming one of the most well-known designers in Paris, showing his collections alongside Sonia Rykiel and Yves Saint Laurent.
Kelly made history by becoming the first American designer ever to be elected to the Chambre Syndicale, France’s prestigious organization of designers. His celebrity clients included Grace Jones, Bette Davis, and Isabella Rossellini.
Kelly was a bit of a controversial figure, as he used slave imagery on his bags (as shown above), and ended his shows by giving out actual ‘pickaninny’ dolls.
Questioned about this practice, Kelly allegedly said, ‘My grandmother was a maid, honey.’ My memorabilia means a lot to me.”
Kelly died of Aids on January 1, 1990. His work was put on display, as shown above, in Brooklyn’s Museum of Art in September 2004. His clothes were funky, heavily ornamented, and bright.
A flute of champagne to the memory of Patrick Kelly.
She writes, “This new year I expect to bring its own share of changes that will showcase itself in my style.”
“Already I’ve been blessed to allow those new developments to move and shape my fashion sensibility in lieu of weather changes, the economy & the transition of beautiful people close to me.”
“I represent a mix of culture, high end to moderately priced pieces and of course my favorite vintage elements!”
“My hope, if nothing else, is to feel and look my best and to inspire everyone to do the same.”
“The goal is simply to embrace whatever life tosses ones way in their best style possible!”

For our Black History Month series, we’re highlight people of color making significant strides behind the scenes. No roundup would be complete without highlighting a woman who is behind the lens in some of the most riveting music videos: Director Melina Matsoukas.
Matsoukas, is the visionary behind Beyoncé’s, “Formation” video. If the aforementioned isn’t enough to make you gag, she is also a Grammy Award winner for Best Music Video for “We Found Love” by Rihanna. Oh-and get this-she’s the director behind Issa Rae’s HBO comedy, Insecure.
Regarding her involvement with projects that have provoked cultural awareness [“Formation” and Insecure] she tells NYTimes, “I feel like I’m now just starting to get to do what I’ve always wanted to do, and hopefully that brush becomes broader and I get to do that with a film and continue to do that in TV, and I’ll probably continue to do a couple of videos here and there. The reason I got into filmmaking was super naïve: to change the world, you know? To really make the voices that we don’t get to hear heard, and the images and the stories that we don’t get to see seen. I would like to normalize that.”
As she reflects on the world’s reaction to “Formation”, she goes on to say to NYtimes, “That wasn’t anything expected. I had no idea that it would have that reaction and initiate those kinds of conversations. That was very satisfying as an artist to be a part of that. I feel like there’s been a lot of racial injustice in our community, and we’re hungry for somebody to say something and for somebody as strong as Beyoncé to say something and show value to people of color.”
Melina is of Jewish, Cuban, Greek, and Jamaican descent; she tells Refinary29, “At the end of the day, I’m a black woman. I see race and culture as different entities and my experience is that of a black woman. I love that because of my different cultures, I’ve been exposed to so many different influences, ideas, views, foods, and experiences, and in terms of culture I wouldn’t say I identify with any of those the most, because I’m American. But, my descent definitely plays a part in how I was raised and what I believe in.”
In reference to her style, she says to Refinery29, “I like to play with clothes and dress according to how I feel that particular day. I’m very much a tomboy, but I wear heels to balance that out. I actually live in heels, and I’m trying to work into a lower form of footwear at the moment. On that note, since I’m typically in a rush, I like easy things that you don’t have to think too much about, like jumpsuits. Also, I just love a good outfit, so when I find pieces that work together, I’ll wear them a few days in a row. But, I love clothes and I love getting dressed. If I’m not happy with my outfit, it’s not a good day. In general, I really just dress for me, so I feel confident and good about myself.”
To women aspiring to be in this male dominated industry, Melina tells Refinery29, “Set your goals and go for it one step at a time. Work hard and educate yourself every step of the way. Never stop learning, listening, or seeing. I still am.”
So New York Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow! The team will be on the Scene, collecting lots of great content, from street style to show reviews, and more! In celebration, we thought it fitting to reflect on some of the best New York Fashion Week moments over the past few years.
Let’s begin, shall we?
Yeezy shows are always fodder for unforgettable moments! The star studded front row for Kanye West’s first show read like a who’s who for the best and most beautiful in pop culture. Cassie, Rihanna, Beyonce, and Kim, along with Jay Z, Sean Combs, and Anna Wintour all came together for the showing; Rihanna and Beyonce’s stunning picture backstage was characteristically flaw free.
Kim Kardashian showed love for her man, even if her olive green ensemble made the internet go hmm…
But set the stage for the rest of Yeezy’s shows. For round 2, daughter North Wests stuck to neutrals, and seemed totally unbothered , even though flanked by Riccardo Tisci and Anna Wintour.
For the next show, at Madison Square Garden, the Kardashian/Jenners slipped on their finest furs and monochromatic looks for a backstage snap!
And for Yeezy’s latest show, which took place in Roosevelt island, models who could barely walk in Yeezy Season heels caused as much conversation as the famous front row.
We honestly could go on and on about the Yeezy shows, but they’re not the only ones making waves during NYFW!
Zendaya strutted in our collective conscience with this stunning Miuniku Yellow Coat, paired with jeans and Christian Louboutin pumps.
Karrueche Tran always comes to slay during the shows! Her Francesco Scognamiglio jumpsuit and House of CB duster coat were pitch perfect for the Laquan Smith show.
We know Solange is a Fashion Week favorite! Her color filled looks are always on trend.
There’s nothing more chic than friends supporting each other. Lala and Cici looked fly while supporting their homegirl Serena at her HSN show last season.
Though Rihanna tends to pop in during Paris Fashion Week, her NYFW moments are worthy of note! Her flirty white Adam Selman dress looked lovely with Christian Louboutin Impera Pumps.
Lastly, the Alexander Wang show is always a highlight of NYFW! A Solange Knowles, Zoe Kravitz, and Amandla Stenberg triumverate is always worthy of note.
Lastly, Taraji P. Henson posed pretty front row at A. Wang, sandwiched between Kylie Jenner and Zoe K.
Tameka Foster is a jack of all trades; she has her hand in reality TV, philanthropy, and celebrity styling. Most recently the Oakland bred beauty has added fashion design to her list of talents. Get into her Cult de Jour custom vintage military jacket collection:
Already making waves, the camo jacket priced around $300, have been spotted on everyone from Nene Leakes to Kevin Hart.
Each item is customized to your liking. You can add fur, trendy patches, sequins and embellishments.
This ‘CDJ Angel’ stunner features embellished wings on the back of the the piece. Get yours here.
