The emerald green cocktail dress features an asymmetric neckline, one-shoulder silhouette with cap sleeve, pleating at the sleeve, gathered detail at the waist and a crossover skirt.
Samira wore her hair in in twists and rocked silver, open-toe sandals and her feet. I love when she trades in her orange jumpsuit for a glamorous red carpet look!

With Mother’s Day around the corner, we dedicate this week’s throwback to this actress and mother of three who has been dominating the silver screen for over fifteen years. From a highly trained and merciless assassin in Colombiana to a savvy intergalactic explorer in the Star Trek franchise, Zoe Saldana has an extensive list of movie roles under her belt.
Just as vast is her wardrobe, which grew just as progressively as her career.
When Saldana first stepped onto the Hollywood scene, it was all about knee length dresses that offered some sort of pizazz. Whether sequined, ruffled or metallic, it’s always been about letting the garment speak for itself.
During her pregnancy with twin boys, Bowie and Cy, now three, she glowed as she stepped out for red carpet appearances. She embraced pastels like pink and vibrant colors like red while wearing dresses that draped elegantly over her baby bump.
When it comes to press junkets, our eyes are always peeled to see what stylist, Petra Flannery, will have up her sleeve for Saldana next. She’s a woman of versatility, and it shows in her style. She loves experimenting with different silhouettes, textures, and patterns; designers like Gucci, Prabal Gurung, and Balmain all afford her the opportunity.
As far as award shows are concerned, there’s no denying she won’t end up on everyone’s best dressed list. Design houses like Givenchy and Dolce & Gabbana never regret selecting her to serve as muse because her lithe frame fits these couture pieces perfectly.
But when she’s not all dolled up and beaming for red carpet photographers, her street style is just as impressive. She’s really a jeans-and-top girl at heart, but she knows how to elevate what could be an ordinary look. Accessorizing with sexy heels, a good tote, and a pair of sunnies is her steeze, and she does it so well, especially with those long stems of hers.
If you’re wondering how she balances being a wife, a mother of three young boys – her youngest, Zen, just being born in February – and one of the most sought after actresses today, we’re right along there with you. She admits how difficult managing it all can be, but she wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. We imagine waking up to all those gorgeous faces everyday makes it easier.

If you’ve been placed in an awkward, sometimes harrowing, situation at some point in your life, and believe me, we all have, this week’s beauty crush can more than likely relate. Having to navigate life through a slew of insufferable coworkers to relationships filled with an overwhelming amount of uncertainty, Issa Rae has become a voice for women of color who have encountered situations like these, while injecting almost lethal doses of humor and sobering reality checks in her HBO comedy series Insecure, YouTube web-series Awkward Black Girl, and her New York Times bestseller The Misadventures Awkward Black Girl. But upon further glances, this beauty has little to nothing to be insecure about.
Her skin glows like her effulgent personality. With nary a flaw, her chestnut complexion is the perfect canvas for lots of experimentation with make up. Rae adores a good smokey-eye to enhance her almond shaped eyes. Her eyebrows, always beautifully sculpted and arched. For lips, she tends to stick to earthy tones like nudes, browns and cocoas, though she can spice up her look every now and then with a deep red lip.
As for her hair, this naturalista embraces her curls and kinks, and loves showcasing them. Whether braided, pinned-up, or pompadoured, Rae definitely has an affinity for trying different looks while being authentic to her true self.
And can we talk about this smile? She beams constantly from ear to ear, showing off her pearly whites. And with the success Insecure has had after its first season, we can understand why.
Here’s to this week’s beauty crush, Issa Rae. Her willingness to forgo a career in business or law and to pursue her dream of filling the gap in entertainment for women of color to be seen as intelligent and relatable in media has us singing her praises. In short, “issa celebration” for this writer, producer, actress and author as 2017 is panning out to be an exciting year with all the buzz surrounding her. We just can’t wait to see how she’ll have us splitting our side with laughter next.
