Show Review: Bourie Spring 2018

Seoul and Tokyo Fashion Week are happening at the same time! The former is one of my absolutely favorite cities for fashion and a brand like Bourie shows exactly why. After a smash debut last season, Eun-hye Jo returned with a sleek, modern, and monochrome collection with her expert tailoring and construction skills on display.

Stripes felt classic on button-front maxi dresses and matching skirt sets.

Suiting was strong with power-shoulder blazers, bermuda shorts, breezy trousers, and obi belt-inspired cinched waists. An element of sexiness showed through with exposed décolletage peeking from underneath the pieces’ wide-notch lapels.

Pops of blue injected color into the assortment and really spoke to our need for vibrancy after a long and harsh winter.

The assemblage proved that simplicity still packs as much of a punch as glitzier wares.

But an abstract floral print played on the season’s timeless pattern and added a sense of whimsy to the designs.

Sexy dresses—and those that could be tailored to appear as such—made the case for red carpet dressing and celebrity appeal. A white ruffle midi dress looked like just the thing for Kim Kardashian, while a peter pan collared-LBD would look phenomenal on Jennifer Lopez.

Look of the Week (The Top 5 Most Liked Looks on Instagram): Justine Skye in Alberta Ferretti, Keyshia Kaoir in Yousef Aljasmi, Blake Lively in Ralph Lauren, and More!

Happy Friday, y’all! We know many of you are gearing up to go to your respective HBCU homecoming celebrations. Before you do so, take a look at who had the best looks based on your likes on Instagram:

1. Justine Skye in Alberta Ferretti: 21,456 Likes

Justine is usually serving 90s cool girl style like that of the movie “Clueless”, however, she softened up her look for the Imagine Ball in LA in this blush toned Alberta Ferretti chiffon dress. Her signature purple tresses were styled in a classic high bun with her baby hairs LAID! Leave it to Justine to add her own little flair. The corset-like waist did wonders for an otherwise typical gown; it’s no wonder she was all smiles.

It was all about #TheManeEvent this week with the highly anticipated wedding of Gucci Mane and Keyshia Kaoir. She slipped into a custom Yousef Al-Jasmi dress for Part 2 of their soiree. With a 1.7 million dollar tab, the new Misses was sure to be a show stopper for her special night. The layers of sparkly fringe atop the sheer paneling of the dress adorned her hourglass frame, impeccably. A “Mane event” it was, indeed.

3. Blake Lively in Ralph Lauren: 17,688 Likes

Blake Lively had seven outfit changes for her day of press in NYC. Amongst them, was this Ralph Lauren checked ensemble which was not only right on trend, but also an androgynous dream. A girl boss, on the move with her power suit, and a bit of masculinity. Not Blake Lively’s typical, however, it certainly works!

4. Jennifer Lopez in Michael Ngo: 16,127 Likes

Jlo was red hot as she performed at the Tidal concert in a Michael Ngo get up. Per usual, she was bad to the bone with her thighs out and capped off the look with a pair of the labels’ sparkly red thigh high boots and a custom New York fitted to match. Always great to see Jenny from the block show us young folks how to do it!

5. Rihanna in Palace: 12,867 Likes

Who says you can’t rock white after Labor Day? After all, fashion rules are meant to be broken. Leave it to Rih to show us how to do so with a casual slay in an all white Palace sweatsuit paired with white Off_White boots. Rih hones in on a multitude of styles, but we must admit that no one does athleisure like she does; demonstrating with ease that you can take a look from drab to fab with the right accessories.

That does it!

Show Review: G.V.G.V. Spring 2018

Tokyo Fashion Week is underway! One of my favorite collections of the season thus far comes from G.V.G.V. Presenting a cool spin on all things nautical, designer Mug G.V.G.V. presented pieces that were equal parts Sailor Moon gone fashionista and school uniform gone chic.

Polka dots and peplum added a retro flair to the assortment, while oversized hoops presented some fun jewelry to add to all of our wardrobes.

Yes—there are still ways to make florals groundbreaking! The brand demonstrated that with a ladylike suit, accenting a dress in the classic pattern with a black and white polka dot collar and belt, having it peek through on the collar of a sailor-inspired top, and a chic, tie-waist jacket that literally heralded Spring.

I haven’t seen the brand spotted on celebs stateside, but the pieces presented here could definitely work for some of our boldest fashionistas. A floral, curve-hugging dress would look gorgeous on Zendaya, while I could absolutely see Rihanna in a patent black and white dot moto jacket.

Show Review: Erdem x H&M

Erdem collaborating with H&M is a very big deal as we’re concerned. Thus, we expected nothing less than a star-studded affair to toast to the epic collection. Zendaya, Kate Bosworth, Shaun Ross, and a whole host of other stars sat front row as the two brands came together for a L.A. runway show to showcase all of the upcoming designs.

A double-breasted floral jacquard suit is officially the only holiday party look I want, while a leopard fur coat will go down in anyone’s wardrobe as a classic for years to come.

Erdem’s signature florals were on display, as were classic British checks.

The collaboration also marked Erdem’s foray into menswear. That resulted in pajama-inspired separates, printed shorts, and jacquard suiting. We’ve honestly never wanted to borrow from the boys so badly.

With some of the world’s most stylish ladies in the audience, I can only imagine how they plan to wear the collection’s gorgeous dresses. Though Zendaya channeled retro Barbie for the night in a bouffant, cropped sweater, and full skirt, I can totally see her in a floral velvet embroidered slip dress. And though Bosworth wore one of the most stunning frocks in the collaboration, it would be cool to see her slip on one of its strong-shouldered jacquard blazers.

Thoughts on the collaboration? The collection hits stores and online on November 2nd.

Splurge: Karrueche’s Miami Beach Myra Swim Brax Black One Piece High Cut Leg Belted Swimsuit and Quay Australia As If Sunglasses in Pink

The heat was on as actress Karrueche went bold on the beach in Miami, clad in a $125 Myra Swim Brax Black One Piece High Cut Leg Belted Swimsuit and $65 Quay Australia As If sunglasses in pink.

Come on body!

Her one piece swimsuit is crafted from soft nylon/spandex and features a super high cut.

This daring suit gives the appearance of a one piece at the front and a two piece at the back. The front wraps under the crutch, around the bottom to tie at the waist.

Her sunglasses boast fun rose colored lenses.

She looks adorable!

Who Wore It Better? Rita Ora vs. Ryan Destiny in Off-White’s Fall 2017 Electric Blue and Silver Detail Velveteen Coat Dress With Houndstooth Over The Knee Pointy Toe Boots

It’s another style showdown! Beauty Ryan Destiny slayed the ‘Gram in the same Off-White Fall 2017 Electric Blue and Silver Detail Velveteen Coat Dress With Houndstooth Over The Knee Pointy Toe Boots that songstress Rita Ora wore while filming her ‘Anywhere’ music video in New York City:

Rita partnered her off the runway ‘fit with large earrings and wavy tousled blonde locks, and a nude lip.

Ryan opted for a hairstyle with a center part and a Fall perfect pout.

The difference in these ladies’ looks all comes down to the ensemble’s fit.

Although both women look stunning in their own right, Rita slightly edges out Ryan for the win. For me, the fit of the coat dress coupled with where the boot hits the thigh, appears to be a bit more sartorially pleasing.
