Fashion News: Burberry Apologizes for Noose Controversy, Removes From Collection

Written by: Jennet Jusu (@TheJusuQuench) | Fashion Bomb Intern

In midst of the hustle and bustle of London Fashion Week, Burberry for their Ready To Wear collection, introduces their line of snazzy outerwear including furs, coats and hoodies with….a noose? Keeping things consistent with their signature brown and beige, the added component was extremely off putting to most which resulted in immediate outrage. The offensive garment, much like the past incidents involving Prada and Gucci and their controversial scandal just a week prior, has since caused Burberry to remove the item.

Liz Kennedy, (model photoed above) who wore the item on the runway took to Instagram to express her feelings on the matter stating, “How could anyone overlook this and think it would be okay to do this especially in a line dedicated to young girls and youth?” Stressing also the horrific history of lynching, with claims made about people making insensitive jokes regarding suicide backstage, too. Marco Gobbetti, Burberry’s CEO, has made a statement that said, “Though the design was inspired by the marine theme that ran throughout the collection, it was insensitive and we made a mistake”.

Fashion Nova is Quick With It: Brand Produces Inspired Vintage Thierry Mugler Dress Hours after Kim Kardashian Wears It to Hollywood Beauty Awards

Fashion Nova lived up to their ‘fast fashion’ moniker yesterday, producing an inspired version of the vintage Mugler dress Kim Kardashian wore to the Hollywood Beauty Awards:

Kim’s dress hails from Mugler’s Spring 1998 Couture collection and leaves very little to the imagination. The dress features a high slit, and chest cut outs that reveal underboob, side boob, ribs, and clavicles.

Within hours of Kim K hitting the red carpet, Fashion Nova debuted their $50 Winning Beauty Cut Out Gown:

Many, including the Instagram account @Diet_Prada, were quick to point out the peculiar timing of the release of this inspired dress. Were Kim K and Fashion Nova plotting this release well in advance? Diet Prada writes, “Did Fashion Nova whip up the dress overnight in their Los Angeles atelier after seeing Kim in it or is she peddling her vintage finds to mass retailers ahead of debuting them for a calculated, timely release?”

Aside from our ponderings, can we take a minute for this dress? I’m trying not to use the word ‘awful’ but that word is certainly the first that comes to mind. Women with curves or women in general should be wary of this…it might be a piece better suited for the runway, a photo shoot, or music video.

One false move and you have a peep show. Because it’s Kim K, I guess we can give her a pass, but only for her (maybe). Normal pedestrians should not wear this dress! It won’t end well.

Still, Fashion Nova seems to have sold out of the dress…or maybe they pulled it after the hubbub?
What say you?

*Also, what’s up with all this cracking open of Mugler archives? From Cardi B to Kim, something is cooking.

How to Pack for a Romantic Trip

It’s the month of Valentine’s Day and you’ve no doubt celebrated your relationship in some way, even if it’s not on the day itself. There’s nothing like Valentine’s Day to remind you to treat your other half, whether it’s a posh dinner, a gift or something a little more extravagant.

Whether you’re in a new relationship, or one that has stood the test of time, it’s key to show your appreciation and love for each other. One of the best ways to do this is to spend some quality time together on a romantic trip, enjoying each other’s company and being one-on-one with each other.

So, if Valentine’s Day has brought out the romantic side in you, here are some top tips on what to pack for a couple’s holiday.

Pack your best clothes

This rule is true no matter what destination you’re heading to; if you’re in your best clothes, you’ll feel your best self. This can get you off to a great start, as you’ll be surrounded by your favourite outfits whether you’re headed to the beach or off on a city break.

Be sure to pack dressier outfits for dinner dates or drinks, as well as more casual pieces for sightseeing and relaxing. As much as a romantic trip shouldn’t be about spending hours in front of the mirror, it’s important to make an effort!

Don’t forget your prettiest lingerie

Let’s be honest, your lingerie game should be strong on a romantic trip away. If you don’t already own some beautiful knickers or pyjamas, this is a great time to invest in some. Even if you think your guy seems oblivious to it, he’ll notice.

Plus, if you’re going somewhere sunny, there’s no better accessory for your lingerie than a tan. Look at your existing lingerie collection and identify what styles are missing; perhaps a pair of French knickers are the perfect design for you when relaxing in your hotel room, or even a new thong for a cheeky bedtime…

Do your homework

It’s important to know where you’re going, not only to find out the top attractions and things to do, but also in terms of the weather and culture. This can hugely impact how you pack for your trip; after all, you don’t want to pack summer clothes if the weather forecast is looking on the chilly side.

Some destinations will be more glamorous than others, so keep this in mind when you’re putting together outfits and accessories to take with you.

Remember the little things

Going away with your other half means that there might be not be another girl to share your beauty dilemmas with; or share beauty products with. Remember to pack the things you’ll really need, like your trusty shampoo and conditioner, and a good hairdryer! Consider what skincare products or other toiletries you’ll need on your trip too; men can often be very low maintenance on this type of thing, so best not to rely on them for your cosmetic or beauty needs!

Remember the smaller things; don’t forget to pack things like a cosy jumper for cooler evenings or a comfortable outfit for travelling home in. As a final reminder, if you’re travelling to somewhere hot, don’t forget your sun cream; not only will being burnt damage your skin, being bright red is notorious for not matching any of your outfits!

3 Tips on How to Dress to Stand Out at New York Street Fashion Week

Written by Rolanna Burtamekh

New York Fashion Week is upon us and the city is roaring with fashionistas showcasing their best Streetstyle look. If you are a fan of Streetstyle, your final fashion week destination should absolutely be Street Fashion Week being held on February 16th, 2019 at Galvanize NYC. Street Fashion Week is a fashion week show that displays the season’s hottest Streetstyle trends both on the runway and on the Streetstyle stars that flock to these shows.

With Street Fashion Week rearing its head to take place in a few days, we thought to bring you some Streetstyle tips to help you prepare. Streetstyle is basically a reflection of how everyday people take the fashion shown on the runway, to the streets with their own personal style in a way they can express themselves, so there are no real rules.

Tip 1: Dress for Confidence

One sure tip to stand out in the midst of the frenzy is to dress in something that makes you feel confident. Cliche as that may seem, Streetstyle photographers gravitate to attendees who have an aura about them. Confidence just makes you that much interesting. Also if you plan to attend several shows in one day, it helps to have chosen an outfit that you can last in all day.

Tip 2: Put your own twist on this Season’s trend.

Check out these designs shown at the last Street Fashion Week. Designer Majeeda Monae is known for her puffer coat color block technique. Like the model photographed, you want to slay but definitely stay warm. This look is the perfect piece to help you accomplish this goal. Majeeda Monae will be displaying her latest Ocho (8 ball) collection at Street Fashion Week.

Tip 3: Accessories are your friend!

Nothing pulls a stylish outfit together like a chunky bracelet or stylish bag. Stand out, complete your outfit with your favorite loud earrings! It’s the details that bring your inner fashionista out.

Whether you are a season Street-Style blogger or have aspirations of exploring that world, Street Fashion Week is definitely a platform for rising talent to showcase their unique style. Most CFDA shows are industry only but some shows are starting to take a more direct to consumer approach. Street Fashion Week is one of the few shows that makes a percentage of their seats available to audience members who can purchase tickets via their website or Eventbrite. Make us proud, tag us on social media, what is your Street Fashion Week outfit? Use the hashtags # fashionbombdaily and #Streetfashionweek
