Style Diary: High Slits and Shades

So aside from the colorblocking trend, I am a huge fan of this season’s high slits! The look is endlessly saucy, easy, and breezy. So for yesterday’s Rocawear Style Suite, I pulled on my new favorite Helmut Lang Asymmetrical Long Skirt.

I dare you not to feel like a hot momma in one of these!

The design is super simple (and perhaps could be a DIY project for you ambitious bombshells), but that high slit is just like bam! There’s my leg.

I wore it with a casual white Helmut Lang racerback tank, and added a few bold accents like Lia Sophia earrings, a Topshop Fabric Multirow Necklace, Dolce & Gabbana Animalier shades (yep the ones Naomi wore in this adJ’adore!)….

Along with a La Mer watch from DJPremium.com and a loose spike ring from Patricia Field:

The skirt is actually quite long, so high heels are very necessary. After my bunion surgery, super crazy stilettos are kind of out of the question, so I popped on my Kaisa Wedges by Leifsdottir:

What do you think?

PS I took a reader’s advice to do something different with my hair. Do you like?

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Sara from Atlanta

Today’s Bombshell is Sara aka Saj from Atlanta, GA:

She says, “I’m a pro Makeup Artist from the Caribbean (Antigua) and recently relocated to Atlanta GA.”

” I’ve never really been able to describe my style, apart from a heavy shoe addiction (seriously…bad shoe addiction..bad but good :D)”

“…I pick my outfits based on what shoe I want to wear today, or what color I’m feeling, what mood I’m in, sometimes I like to go vintage glam 50’s or Madonna 80’s.”

“…I love mixing colors, prints, and textures.”

“I love love love color, being from an island that is naturally so colorful it easily influenced my style and creativity.”

“I’m also a fan of ‘reworking’ an item, be it a graphic T wearing it casual then dressing it up, I don’t care about “wearing the same item twice” I bought it because I love it!!!! So watch me wear it out! “

“I’m curious to see if and how Atlanta may influence my style now being exposed to a new culture! Apart from the different winter attire!”

The jewelry designer for Zoe Love Designs says, “My look is constantly changing but I can honestly say my style is strongly influenced by sub and ethnic cultures.

“… It’s not a coincidence if you find some sort of tribal pattern or ankara designs in my outfit.”

” Whether I am in the mood for a 60’s look, 80’s or 1940’s styled outfit there is always an ethnic accessory or two thrown in the mix to give my outfit a tribal edge.”

“This tribal edge is what I thrive to incorporate into my jewelry line.”

Ok! Will definitely have to check out your line at www.zoelove.bigcartel.com.

Today I give you Katherine, a diva from Denver, Colorado by way of Accra, Ghana:

She was actually nominated by her friend Akua, who says, “I met her while I was an undergrad, she was getting her masters.”

” We quickly bonded over our love for our motherland of Ghana and fashion.”

” She is such an all-round intelligent, fashionable, and lovely person who looks fly everyday-even at the gym!”

“… As of 2011-she is officially a diplomat!”

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Kimee from South Carolina

Today we’re taking a detour from our regular DMV divas with Kimee from Charleston, South Carolina:

She says, ” I studied fashion in undergrad and I’m the assistant fashion editor of Mwari Magazine blog.mwarimag.com

“My style can be best described as follows: I don’t dress for men or attention, I curate looks for fashion.”

“…I’ve always expressed myself through fashion, growing up my father called me Freddy from the hit TV series “A Different World.”

My friends call me the anti-blogger because I follow select fashion bloggers. I’m not interested in Prada/Gucci sending modelesque citizens free clothing to promote, I’m only interested in true fashion sites especially those that promote the African Diaspora. Kudos to the Fashion Bomb team.

“My style icons are Solange Knowles, Ms. Diana Ross, the fierce Grace Jones, the fabulous June Ambrose, and Chloe Sevigny.”

“I live for unique pieces, so I either make them myself or vintage shop. For me vintage/thrifting hunting can be described as the NEW BLACK, check out my “how to vintage shop” video via thefeast.com.”

“I may sound incredibly narcissistic but I’m really a small town, humble gal.”

Thanks for the kudos, Kimee, you look fab!

Our polling system is down (again, grrr!), so leave a comment with your thoughts on Kimee’s style.

Style Diary: Optic White and Candy Stripes

Last night I had a few events to go to downtown, so decided to try out my new white kimono sleeve dress by Ashtyn.

The sleeves are totally fun, and the fit and cut can work for anything from a cocktail party to a yacht cruise (cue the I’m on a Boat song).

I accessorized with ‘Fandango’ earrings by Peace Images

…and candy striped Christian Louboutin slingbacks.

Not to be overlooked: my Tiedra the Tigress bracelet fashioned by fellow blogger Jessie Adore.

I’ve gotta admit. I wasn’t 100% sure with this outfit. I never wear big earrings and the all white + billowing sleeves seemed like…a lot.

Still, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. Sometimes you have to take risks, right?

What do you think?

*Like my Peace Images earrings? We’re giving a pair away later today. Stay tuned.

” I love mixing unexpected prints together.”

“My style is chic with a funky twist. I always color outside the lines.”

Gor.geous. If you’re interested in one of Emma’s fab clutches, visit her online store www.elisvintage.com.
