While there are many award shows and celebrations that take place, very few are as vital and necessary to people of color as #BlackGirlsRock. With its 10th Anniversary, this year proved to be moving, inspiring, and of course, fashionable! Let’s check out some of the hot looks of the night:
Naturi Naughton stunned in a canary-yellow one-shoulder dress with metallic glass-like shards down the sleeve by CDGreene. She looks amazing!
Skai Jackson showed us how to colorblock with flair for the Spring in a yellow top, orange pants, and cobalt blue pumps.
Yara Shahidi rocked a white jumpsuit, offsetting it with red open-toed shoes and a red leather jacket. I love this look so much!
Tracee Ellis Ross is one of a kind, and she definitely showed it in this white fringed number by Leah Da Gloria.
Honoree Shonda Rhimes looked beautiful a black lace dress and sequined crop cardigan.
Tatiana Ali showed off her cute baby bump in a Zac Posen cobalt blue dress.
Justine Skye showed off her beautiful chocolate skin in a white crop top and open-cut white pants, both by Jonathan Simkhai. I think the pants could have used a little more tailoring, but she’s beautiful nonetheless.
Rihanna received the Rockstar Award at Black Girls Rock, sporting a head to toe look from Miu Miu Fall 2016, with a huge fur coat, blue menswear-inspired button-up, white shorts, and black shoes with bedazzlement in the front. At first I was NOT a fan, but this look grew on me. What do you guys think?
Jazmine Sullivan performed at the Awards, but hit the red carpet in a sexy black number with a sheer panel at the bottom, mermaid style. Rock on Jazmine!
Teyonah Parris looked beautiful (what’s new?) in a gold sequined dress by Jani Khosla. BEAUTIFUL.
Amandla Stenberg rocked a burnt-orange Moschino suit.

Eva Marcille rocked an olive green jumpsuit by House of CB, setting it off with nude pumps and an open pink coat.
Kelly Rowland slaaaayed in a white jumpsuit by Brandon Maxwell that feaured a plunging V neckline (gotta show the girls off! and nude pumps. I wanted a different hairstyle for her, but she still gave me life.
Monica brought her little one with her to the show, paired in a black mesh top and green thigh-slit skirt both by Balmain, and Sophia Webster shoes. You better slay as a mother, Monica!

One of our favorite style mavens, EJ Johnson, has just landed his own reality TV show with E! The six-episode series will be a spinoff of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, starting up after the show’s season 4 finale:
EJ’s style proclivities, his recent 180-pound weight loss, his career, and his love life will all be topics the show covers: it’s sure to be entertaining! Sister Elisa Johnson, Samaria Smith (LL Cool J’s daughter) and real estate development heir Sanaz Panahi are a part of EJ’s squad, so they will also have roles in the episodes.
Of the show, E! EVP of Original Programming & Development, Jeff Olde, said, “EJ continues to be a standout character on #RichKids, with his over-the-top personality and incomparable style, and now viewers will get a chance to follow him on a whole new journey as he embraces his newfound self-confidence and works to build a brand that lives up to his family name.”

1) Rihanna in The Elder Statesman
Rihanna’s ANTI Tour is on fire! Although I’ve yet to cop my tickets, I’ve heard amazing things. Earlier this week, the songstress was spotted out and about in an eccentric rainbow hued pant set by The Elder Statesman. RiRi accented her look with Manolo Blahnik pumps and Moschino sunnies. Yes!
2) Khloe Kardashian in Roberto Cavalli
Khloe Kardashian took to the ‘Gram as she she served up all types of sexiness in an August Getty Atelier silk coat and a Roberto Cavalli black sheer insert jumpsuit. The style maven completed her frock with simple black pumps and a fierce pose. Geeeessshhh! You gotta admit – she looks great!
3) Cardi B in Versailles Boutique
Next up, we have Miss Cardi B! The Love & Hip Hop New York star shut it down in a green cutout dress by Brooklyn’s own Versailles Boutique. Her gorgeous ‘fit boasts a structural flower detail, and a fitted waist. The reality starlet amped things up a bit by incorporating animal-print pumps and flawless hair. Go girl!
4) Kelly Rowland in Self Portrait
Our girl Kelly Rowland made an appearance on Good Morning America while promoting one of her new endeavors – a reality show called Chasing Destiny. The overall premise of the show is to discover the next big girl group. Cool, huh? For the occasion, the singer/actress uplifted a Self-Portrait ruffle trim daisy dress which showcases a yellow, black and white color palette, mesh detailing and sleeveless features. Hot!
5) Jennifer Lopez in Vatanika
I LIVE for a good jumpsuit! So, after spotting Jennifer Lopez in this dramatic Vatanika number, I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm. The fashionista rocked a risky trend (hey, wide legs!) but she pulled it off so effortlessly! In addition to the ethereal white hue, the jumpsuit also houses a halter neckline and a sleek silhouette. Jenny also kept her accessories to a minimum. Yaaassss!
6) Karrueche Tran in Zeena Zaki
Karrueche is everywhere! The model/actress was on hand for the Los Angeles premiere of her new film A Weekend with the Family while killing it in a golden off-the-shoulder dress by Zeena Zaki. I adored this look due its overall simplicity but I also loved the lace-up detailing and the thigh-high slit. To top things off, the fashion favorite paired her look with metallic Tom Ford sandals. Cute!
7) Tracee Ellis Ross in Ellery
The incomparable Tracee Ellis Ross rounds out this week’s contenders! A few days ago, the lovely actress graced the Today Show in a black Ellery off-the-shoulder midi dress. With expert tailoring and (on-trend) trumpet sleeves, this was one of my absolute faves! I also love the sophistication of the look. But, come on, this woman does no wrong!

We had another style-driven Premiere last night, celebrating the Anita Hill movie ‘Confirmation‘! Why don’t we take a quick look at a few of the standouts, shall we?
Regina Hall rocked out this beautiful neutral-driven print dress. I think she looks flawless!
Adina Porter went for a more laid-back ensemble, rocking a pleated neutral-tone top. I wish she had done a skirt to amp up the glam a little, but nonetheless she looks chic.
Our secret bestie Zendaya came to stunt, slay and surrender us helpless in a bedazzled crop top and skirt from Rani Zakhem Spring/Summer 2016. She paired it with pink heels, and dare I say she was one of the best looks of the night?
Alison Wright gave us a floral frock along with a pair of Gucci gold sandals.
The lady of the evening Kerry Washington donned a beautiful floral dress from Dolce & Gabbana. She finished her look with black suede Christian Louboutin Jonatina sandals and a small clutch. I love!
Gabrielle Union sported a black dress by Marc Jacobs for the event, that had a little peek of beige up top. Something about this is a little off to me (maybe it’s the beige looking like a bra). Regardless, her makeup looks impeccable. What do you guys think?

While on the press tour for her new NSFW tome with Taschen named Art of Beauty(slated for April 7 release), Naomi Campbell appeared on Sway In The Morning to talk all things pop culture. But between effusing her love for Kanye West’s Life of Pablo album and Rihanna’s “On The Brain” record from Anti, the supermodel got serious when things turned to Ashley Graham and her Cheryl Tiegs controversy.
Back in February, Tiegs said that she didn’t like that full-figured women were being included in the modeling industry. A former model herself, Tiegs says that when the industry includes those models “it’s glamorizing them, and your waist should be smaller than 35.” She understandably caught a big of flack for it.
On her Sway interview, Campbell was asked for her thoughts. “How does she know that?” the icon said when Sway explained that Tiegs called Graham unhealthy. “I would never make a comment like that. I think it’s way too personal: I don’t know what Ashley eats. It’s not that just because you’re bigger it means you are eating tons of food. I have tons of friends that are bigger, it could be a hormone problem.”
For some, that last point was the beginning of a bad road for Campbell’s thoughts.
“I don’t think that Ashley’s big like that; she’s not obese.” Some outlets have transcribed her words as “she’s not a beast.” Campbell went on to say: “I think sometimes our bones are bigger and we’re just built that way. That doesn’t mean she’s fat.”
After elaborating on the point Campbell summarized her thought succinctly: “I think she’s a beautiful woman and no matter what color or creed, she should be able to model.”
