This morning, yet another black man, Keith Lamont Scott, was wrongfully gunned down, reading a book in his car while waiting for his son to be dropped off by a school bus.

Literally one day prior, Terence Crutcher was killed by police in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

These situations are heart wrenching, numbing, and infuriating. This year has been littered with instances of police brutality and misuse of power. It’s like a punch in the stomach to wake up every day and realize that things are not changing. Things are not getting better. And we all feel powerless to change things, beyond posting a picture or typing a hashtag on social media.

Last night, I attended a dinner hosted by Revolt for the Urban World festival. The room was chock full of influential film makers, producers, and content creators. While we grapple to figure out what we can really do to change the violent in our country, one thing we do have the power to do is vote.

Polls open November 8th. And we can’t continue to go backwards…

Our country needs us to stand up for something, and exercise our power as we can.

What is that, velvet?*

Why yes, yes it is!

Though the weather is still skewing steamy, that hasn’t stopped the well photographed set from sporting the typically fall fabric. Besides, it’ll be chilly before you know it.

Monica Rose’s style squad of Gigi Hadid and every Kardashian/Jenner has already embraced the trend, and several other celebs have sidled up as well!
Hailey Baldwin hit the streets of New York in a lithe green velveteen dress.

Zendaya is always ahead of the curve! She paired a leather bralette with a velvet suit to attend the I Heart Radio Awards.

Queen Rih has been a velvet fan for a minute now. Of course she accessorized her plush dress with a glass of wine.

And Kylie Jenner kept it cute in a baby blue blazer dress, completed with lace up sandals.

Today’s bomb product features the trend that’s flooding our timelines: Velvet! I was particularly intrigued when I saw a pair worn by a London Bombshell, who paired a saucy velvet yellow mini dress with blue velvet over the knee boots.

Not sure of the make of her heels, but these $58 options from DollsKill are a steal and come very close.

They boast a block heel, a pointed toe, and an inner ankle zipper closure.

I’d vote against spending a ton on a trend, so these are perfect!
