Rock it or Knock it? Summer 2017’s Pool Slide Trend

Comfort is the new chic and pool slides are this summer’s must have staple. Blame the resurgence of the 90s style craze on Wild Thoughts crooner Rihanna. Since the introduction of her Fenty x Puma faux fur slides last Spring, the contemporary and versatile footwear has evolved into the easy and effortless go-to pick for one’s feet.

Luxury brands like Givenchy are definitely capitalizing on the slide craze, offering mink fur rubber slides to the eager masses. After all, they are fuzzy and fun to wear, and chances are some of your favorite celebrities have been spied sporting ’em.

Khloe Kardashian donned a pair of Duckie Confetti fox fur and rubber slides priced at $85 and up.

If you’re desirous of having more bang for your buck, Urban Outfitters offer their funky version called Luxe Furry pool slides for only $15.

Go for these $395 Luxury Hotel gold and white slides by Dolce & Gabbana.

You an always opt for this statement pair of $88 Anthropologie ‘South Parade Pom Pom” pool slides.

Pop sensation artist, Lil Yachty is enjoying life in his $190 Gucci  Tricolor Pursuit Trek Stripes sandals .

Keep it pretty in pink in these fringe jelly slides called “Paseo” by Dirty Laundry for only $30.

Cute!

Here are just a few ways some celebs worked the trend:

Kim Kardashian kept it cozy in a robe, corset and Givenchy Mink Fur Slides.

Reality star, Rob Kardashian went for the all-black attire and kept it casual in his Givenchy Logo Rubber pool slides.

Rita Ora was seen sporting a white ensemble paired with the original $45 Adidas Originals Adilette.

Hailey Baldwin was seen resting her runway ready feet, adorned in a pair by Adidas.

And there it is! Pool slides are highly not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s been reported that Kanye West’s Yeezy line may release some Yeezy slides  to the masses. Let’s just hope it’s before the summer ends!

What do you think about the pool slide trend?

Beauty Crush Wednesday: Zoe Kravitz

When you’re the daughter of rock legend, Lenny Kravitz, and one of the most beloved actresses of Cosby and A Different World fame, Lisa Bonet, you’re just bound to be a vessel of coolness. There’s no way around it. Zoe Kravitz undeniably embodies just that, and has made a name for herself outside the accomplishments of her parents. Blazing the silver screen in movies like Dope and most recently Rough Night, all eyes are definitely on her. Her slight elusiveness coupled with her charming and witty personality have many wanting more, and we’d be remiss in saying we didn’t feel the same.
Zoe has rarely been a fan of dramatic makeup, but that doesn’t mean her look is any less interesting when she gets glammed up. She favors tones that compliment her skin tone. Light pinks and nudes usually fall under her beauty repertoire as far as her lips and eyes are concerned. A subtle highlight on her cheekbones and in the corners of her eyes give her an almost angelic glow.

But every now and then, like most women who love makeup, she sports a brooding red lip to add excitement to her look.
Zoe’s affinity for going against the grain is especially showcased with all the hair transformations she’s undergone. Possibly using both parents as references, Zoe may not have made a full commitment to dreadlocks, but she adores braids. From long, cascading raven colored braids to a cute top knot for a day out, one look at her can serve as inspiration for women who may want to try alternative styles for braided hair.

While some women may not be as daring, Zoe never seems to shy away from a change. She traded in her black braids for platinum blonde ones, drawing attention to her gorgeous dark eyebrows and bone structure.     As of late, well, since this year’s Met Gala, she let the braids go and now sports a cute pixie cut, a la Mia Farrow in her heyday.  Gorgeous!

Here’s to Zoe Kravitz: a girl who constantly redefines beauty standards without subscribing to any. So much so, she’s become an ambassador for YSL Beauty. And with the beauty looks she’s been serving lately, we’re certain she’ll shake things up even more as the year progresses.

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Lucy From Uganda

Today’s stylish Bombshell is Lucy Bunyenyezi from Uganda, who currently resides in New York.

She writes, “I’m an actress and fashion enthusiast currently living in New York City. I don’t discriminate with where I shop…if I like it I’ll rock it and couldn’t care less about how much it cost. There’s a lot of materialism and pressure associated with fashion regarding “where it’s from..” and I often tell everyone that fashion is all about expressing yourself so whether it cost 1 dollar and YOU like it…nothing else matters.”

“I’m a story teller and I’m passionate and committed to cultivating a contemporary African narrative through film for the global audience to appreciate. I see a lot of parallels to this in my fashion sense. Some days I want to be draped in an African fabric strolling through soho and observe the reception of a culture blending into such a westernized, vibrant fashion district of New York City.”

“I love meeting new people, contributing to female empowerment and teaming up with anyone pro creativity to sprinkle some sparkle in this world.”

Happy Tuesday, folks!
Sunday marked another successful Cocktails with Claire x Ty Hunter! This time around, we took our traveling fashion networking party down south to Ty’s Houston stomping grounds.

Part 1 comprised a panel featuring Rachel Roff of Urban Skin RX, De’Shaun Chancy of Dare to Have Hair, Ty Hunter, and myself, moderated by event coordinator extraordinaire, Chimee Ahaiwe. Our talk centered on topics of entrepreneurship, stepping out on faith, building a solid team, and more.

After we chatted, we sipped on drinks by Justini Cocktails and noshed on hors d’oeuvres by One Feisty Chef while shopping from our vendors, included Glamology, Chi Chi L’Amour, Lamik Beauty, Hair of Nature, Save the Edges, ModChic Couture, and Dear Designer.

Texas Bombshells represented! Our resident photographer, Valencia aka @vjephotography captured the following hot Houston fashionistas:

Yes! To the spring colors embraced by these beauties.

Florals were a popular choice, as witnessed by this floral pant/sheer top combo.

Dare to Have Hair’s De’Shaun Chancy always looks bomb! She uplifted a Zara shirt dress with a Gucci belt, Gucci purse, and Louboutin heels. Hot!

Fashion Bombshell of the Day alum Nneka aka @QueenofSleeves added a statement necklace to an all black look.

These VIPS grabbed a pic with the CEO of Lamik Beauty. Yes, Gucci shoes!

If you don’t follow @MattieStyleSuitsU on Instagram, start now! I’m a fan of her style, and her ensemble for the event stayed true to her effortlessly chic aesthetic.

And these ladies looked bomb in floral accented pieces.
After grabbing pix and taking selfies, I settled in to sign copies of the Bomb Life. Thank you to everyone who picked up a copy!

As always, fun times were had by all!

Thank you to Haiku Home for hosting us, to our sponsors Dare to Have Hair, Urban Skin RX, Cantu, and Rayar Jeans, to our food and beverage sponsors Justini Cocktails and One Feisty Chef, and to our vendors, Dear Designer, Mod Chic Couture, Get Glamology, Chi Chi L’Amour, Hair of Nature, and Lamik Beauty.

Show Review: Monse Resort 2018

Monse’s signatures have taken hold of the industry and the global stylish set—menswear-inspired silhouettes given modern spins and classic shirts and stripes gone eccentric. Their pieces will set you back a few hundred dollars—if not a couple of thousand—but not to fret as fast-fashion brands are recreating the designs in record time for affordable prices. And Storets, Zara, and the like are going to have their work cut out for them yet again, as Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim are back at it with newness for Resort.

Checks are strewn across both slit shirt dresses and functional coats, while tops are deconstructed and disheveled in the best senses of the word—with asymmetric necklines and hemlines. Prints also peek through on flounce hem skirts with zip-accented hemlines that literally appear to almost fall off: just the right amount of edge for the already daring Monse lover.

Prints continue with Fall-perfect plaid, the brand’s signature stripes, and colorful patchwork florals.

Denim is uplifted on wearable, yet flirty pumps, oversized denim jackets that will definitely be worth the splurge if you don’t already have one in your closet, jeans with off-centre zip plackets for a cool edge, and over-the-knee boots that we cannot wait to get our hands on.

And that aforementioned stylish set? Well it includes Diane Kruger, Thandie Newton, Claire Danes, and Fan Bingbing. All of these ladies will look stellar in the bevy of cocktail-ready dresses presented. An off-the-shoulder floral print frock feels oh-so-right for Kruger, while the Chinese actress could absolutely pull off the black and white vertical stripes of a cold-shoulder design.

Thoughts on the latest from Monse?
