Just when you thought New Orleans couldn’t get any hotter, more heat came rolling through the city Friday night and settled right in the Theaters at Canal Place! Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, and more cast members from the Universal Picture’s film Girls Trip came out to host a private screening for their highly anticipated flick. Other celebs and influencers flocked to this event to be amidst the who’s who in the industry, and of course we were on the scene too! Let’s get into some captures below!
Queen Latifah was glowing as usual in a Dolce & Gabbana polka dot maxi dress and black sandals.
Jada gave us major style in a Valentino embroidered sheer dress, Yossi Harari earrings, and ankle strap sandals.
Tiffany Haddish was cute and comfy in a bodycon olive green dress adorned with peaches and matching olive green sandals.
Regina Hall was classy in a sparkly off-the-shoulder dress and silver ankle strap heels.
Kofie Siriboe was handsome in a black ensemble covered by a knee length printed blazer.
Big Freedia paid homage to New Orleans style in a camouflage top and pants.
Essence Atkins stopped by the screening clad in a hot pink mini dress and nude heels.
Mona Scott Young gave us some fly girl vibes in a taupe jumper, cream blouse and silver strappy sandals.
Issa Rae was all smiles in the middle of dapper men Kofi Siriboe and Larenz Tate. She rocked an off-white fitted knit dress.
See more pictures from the screening below! Will you be going to see the movie Girl’s Trip?
Forever 21 has filed a lawsuit against Gucci for the right to sell merchandise with the Italian fashion house’s signature stripes.
Apparently Gucci sent the retail giant multiple cease and desist letters since last December demanding that they stop copying the blue-red-blue and green-red-green stripe combinations that have become synonymous with the luxury brand.
Gucci stated that the stripes are “confusingly similar” to their own and demanded that Forever 21 halt the sales of the infringing products, which includes chokers, bomber jackets and sweaters.
In a plot twist, Forever 21 is now seeking the legal rights to continue using the stripes and requesting that the court cancels Gucci’s current stripe trademarks, which they’ve held since the 80s. The company is also asking the court to deny similar pending applications.
Sounds like a lot of drama! I think Forever 21 should fall back. The stripes are clearly a Gucci signature. What do you think?
Fact: Virgil Abloh is having a moment. And when I say moment, I mean a multiple-year run that is now culminating in major mainstream success. The biggest It girls are wearing his designs. He’s collaborating with IKEA. Few are doing it like he is right now—proving that being a designer is often only one branch for a creative’s endless well of inspiration. His Resort 2018 played on all the reasons why he and Off-White are soaring to all new heights, as well as demonstrating that he has serious growth potential.
A woman can never go wrong with lace, thus it made an appearance on short-sleeve blouses layered under peplum tops, crop tops juxtaposed under 80’s-chic cropped blazers, red carpet-ready dresses that spun the classic slip dress on its head, and a sheer, curve-hugging frock that couldn’t have been more on-trend.
The brand’s logo was on display, as were other minimal yet powerful graphics. “Text” was strewn against a black leather, handheld bag, while “Floral Print Here” and “Walking” were clever additions to breezy tunics and boots.
Florals and stripes encapsulated the collection’s prints—giving a vibrant edge to everything from pleated, knee-length skirts to long-sleeve, draped mini dresses.
Bella Hadid, Nicole Kidman, Issa Rae, and Janelle Monae are all fans of Off-White. And I’m certain they’re already clamoring over the red carpet-ready looks in the assortment. A knot turtleneck LWD would be just the piece for the new super and the Insecure creator would look stellar in a draped tunic and sheer lace trouser combo.
It’s that time again! The 2017 Essence Music Festival is well underway. For those of you headed to the Big Easy for a little music, culture, and all things NOLA, tap into a few outfit ideas with today’s style inspirations.
Opt for an olive ruched-side midi dress styled with a pair of printed platform straw sandals.
Spice things up with a tassel statement necklace, cat-eye sunglasses, a studded olive clutch, and stacked bangle bracelets.
Give your look a tropical feel with a palm leaf print playsuit offset by a pair of pearl-embellished t-strap sandals.
Complete the look with a blush pink envelope clutch, gold chain link hoop earrings, and oversized designer frames.
Dress up a black jumpsuit with a mini ark bag and lace up sandals.
Add stylish details with a pair of oversized square-frame flip up sunglasses and gold ellipse earrings.
Rock a sheer floral duster with a white tank top and distressed denim shorts.
Mix it up with a few black accents, including a pair of gladiator sandals, a monogram shoulder bag, tiered tassel earrings, and cat-eye sunglasses. For the final touch, add a popping pink lip.
Lastly, rework a casual denim look in a strappy white bodysuit paired with a long frayed denim skirt.
Chic up the look with a pair of black embellished sandals, a printed envelope clutch, draped chain earrings, and beaded bangles.
And that’s it! Which look would you wear while exploring the streets of New Orleans and vibing to a little R&B and Soul? Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend!
