Dapper Dan Officially Partners with Gucci, Announces New Atelier and Capsule Collection

Oh Happy Day!
Yesterday, Harlem Fashion Legend Dapper Dan announced an official partnership with Gucci. The Italian house will also help Dan reopen his atelier, and will be collaborating with him on a capsule collection.

According to the New York Times, “In a twist of fortune that could hardly have been imagined back in the day, Daniel Day — better known as Dapper Dan, his nom de knockoff — is reopening his famous studio and atelier with the support of Gucci.”

“For 10 years, between 1982 and 1992, Mr. Day ran one of the hottest shops in Harlem, a 24-hour-a-day atelier where the flush and flash came to commission fashion pieces, furs, leather goods and car interiors wallpapered with unauthorized designer logos. It was counterfeiting elevated to the level of art: Mr. Day made his own Guccis, Louis Vuittons and Fendis, for customers including Mike Tyson, LL Cool J and Eric B. and Rakim, in styles and sizes the luxury companies didn’t and wouldn’t offer. More was more, and in some cases, Mr. Day was making clothing even before the luxury brands themselves were. This time around, Gucci will supply him with all those Gs he once had to pirate.”

Dapper Dan reemerged onto the fashion community’s collective conscience when Gucci paraded a balloon sleeved jacket reminiscent of Dan’s creations down their Resort 2018 runway. The internet went into a frenzy, demanding that Gucci give Dapper Dan proper credit for creating the style and silhouette.

Gucci did one better. According to reports, they will supply Dan with materials to create custom pieces, fund his atelier, and collaborate with him on a collection, set to launch next Spring.

The same company that used to raid his stores and sue him for copyright infringement is actually helping fuel Dan’s original vision.

I think this is a wonderful turn of events and can’t wait to see the fruits of this collaboration.

Man Crush Monday #MCM: French Montana

Hailing all the way from Rabat, Morocco, Karim Karbouch, better known as French Montana. At the age of 13, he came to the US to reside in the urban streets of the Bronx, NY. The Morrocan-hip-hop artist is a smooth brother, and a business man who appreciates different cultures, living the high-life, and staying in his own lane. Today we mark this 32-year-old gentleman as our Man Crush Monday.

French is no stranger to making money moves in the hip-hop industry. Since 2002, he became the founder of Cocaine City Records, formerly signed to singer Akon’s Konvict Music label, and now has turned to Diddy’s empire in 2016, as he’s currently signed with Bad Boy Entertainment and Epic Records.

With French’s new label, new sound, and new swag, he’s becoming more of a business man than just an artist, as he’s created his own limited edition beverage under Cîroc Diddy called French Vanilla.

This rapper is absolutely winning in 2017. While following his own ten commandments of the ‘Jungle Rules’ which is also his latest album title, he values hard work, family, and is fascinated his roots of Africa. His mindset and work ethic has gotten his current hit “Unforgettable” ft. Swae Lee on the Billboard Top 100 for 20 consecutive weeks and counting.

French’s style is surely not unforgettable. He is a big fan of prints, which is probably why he is usually drenched in Versace, and Gucci fits. But it’s more than about the luxury brand, it’s his Moroccan flavor that makes his looks original than trendy.

He is typically seen rocking layered gold chains, a printed scarf used as a headwrap, and thick, bold prints, which compliments his influence towards the Arabian style and culture.

On the Scene: Tom Ford’s Spring 2018 Show with Kim Kardashian, Ciara, Lori Harvey, and More!

Tom Ford’s list of fans is literal miles-long and they all showed up to fête his Spring 2018 show. Our favorite style stars and supermodels were in attendance, along with a handful of icons.

Let’s get into the night’s looks!

Kim Kardashian flaunted her curves (and her new platinum tresses) in a strapless latex LBD. Hot!

Ciara is back! A floor-grazing black gown with an attached leather scarf was her choice for the evening. I cannot wait to see what she wears for the rest of Fashion Month.

A plunging, belted top, leather trousers, and illusion pumps were on the style agenda for Lori Harvey.

Pat Cleveland schooled us all in a playful black and white frock. Legendary!

June Ambrose shimmered and sparkled in a high-neck sequin gown. Her style is always impeccable.

Leave it to an icon like Chaka Khan to accessorize with a fan bearing her name.

Cleo Wade layered it on in a black beret, floral embroidered cropped sweater layered over a classic button-front, white shirt, destructed denim, and silver platforms.

Doutzen Kroes was the lady in red, slipping on a high-neck red gown with a thigh-high slit and sheer inset. Simply stunning.

Russell Westbrook was dapper in a textured navy sport coat with contrast black lapels.

Poppy Delevingne skewed sultry in a strapless LBD with a sexy keyhole. Great dress!

Hannah Bronfman kept it simple yet chic in a curve-hugging LBD.

Fashion Show or Concert? Philipp Plein Brings out Future, Nicki Minaj, Teyana Taylor, Yo Gotti and More for New York Fashion Week Spectacle

Philipp Plein goes big or goes home!
Last year, his name illuminated the New York Public Library, and his fashion show included performances by Nas, and appearances by Young Thug, Fetty Wap, and Prison Bae. This year, he upped the ante with a chaotic spectacle at Hammerstein Ballroom. Thousands of attendees pushed to get into the cavernous venue, before sitting down and taking in a hodge podge of entertaining tidbits, which kicked off with a strip tease by Dita Von Teese and culminated in a performance by Atlanta’s very own Future Hendrix. 21 Savage, Rae Sremmund, and Cordell Broadus walked the runway, while Teyana Taylor gyrated down the runway in a thong lacy bodysuit.

Was it simultaneously titllitating and entertaining? Yes! I love Future and stan for Teyana, so was happy to see so many people I admire share one stage.

But sadly, I can’t remember the clothes at all. Not one stitch.

I saw some black, some lace, maybe a few corseted contraptions. But the clothes were seriously overshadowed by the concert.

Several other editors in the audience shared the same sentiment: Great show, but where’s the fashion? @BevySmith summed it up perfectly, writing on Instagram, “There’s no denying that Harlem goddess #teyanataylor is the best thing that came down the #phillipplein ! All the press can talk about are the amazing performers that Plein spent 7 figures on to get them to attend & perform at his #EmperorsNewClothes spectacle! Very little is being said about the clothes, perhaps because as USUAL they are knockoffs of 90’s Versus by Versace! To Nicki, Future, Dita, Rae Sremmurd & Teyana, I know y’all backed up the Brinks truck! #GetMoney #WasItAConcertOrAFashionShow #WeveSeenPleinBeforeAndBetterExecuted #KnockItOffWithTheObviKnockOffs”

Real Style: New York Fashion Week Day 2 Photographed by David Nyanzi

Day 2 at New York Fashion Week exploded with loads of street style, expertly captured by photographer David Nyanzi. Without further ado, behold the best sidewalk chic from #NYFW:

It’s all Gucci! It wouldn’t be fashion week without at least one Gucci spotting. This young fashionista worked the brand’s yellow logo sweatshirt and monogram bag, further accessorizing with thigh high boots and fun shades. Work!

Sisters Cipriana Quann and TK Wonder are always sartorial visions. Mixed prints and big hair came together to create eye catching looks.

Priya Shukla is one of the chicest women in the industry! The PR direction worked a black and denim color palette and Chanel shoes.

Fun fringed shoes beautifully accented a striped top and jeans.

Yes! To off duty model style. I love these ruffled pants, and her cropped tee was a nice touch.

Lastly, Jan Quammie is a street style star. She manages to look both comfortable and fly, and she did just that in Pharrell x Adidds Human Race sneakers and an artfully constructed skirt. This woman just gets it.
That’s the best from Day 2!

Look of the week(Top 5 Most Liked Looks on Instagram): Cardi B in YSL, Lala in Off-White, Michelle Obama in Mara Hoffman, and More!

Happy Friday, all! Yesterday was the commencement of fashion mayhem in the concrete jungle aka Fashion Week. And thus, it’s another fashion filled week. Without further ado, here’s who you thought had the best look based on your likes on Instagram:

1. Cardi B in YSL: 25,267 Likes

First, we’ve got Cardi B snatching the #1 spot for the second week in a row. I must admit, when I came across this on my timeline, I had to do a double take. How regal does she look in this vintage brocade dress topped off with an elegant pair of YSL sandals? She strutted her stuff on the streets of New York sporting a wet and wavy ‘do. Cardi came through with this look!

2. Lala in Off-White: 16,194 Likes

Lala, hit the streets of New York in an Off-White body suit and sweats get up. Typically folks scan a look from top to bottom, however, I beg to differ with this one. First thing that caught my attention were the snazzy boots she paired with an otherwise casual ‘fit. Something is also to be said about Virgil Abloh’s take on athleisure wear and the ability to dress it up or down.

3. Michelle Obama in Mara Hoffman: 12,282 Likes

Our forever First Lady, Michelle Obama, dropped off daughter, Malia, to her first year at Harvard and jetted to vacation in Spain. Whether on duty or off, Michelle Obama knows how to turn heads. Leave it to her to give us some leg action in the midst of yachting in Europe all the while fashionable in a Mara Hoffman ensemble. I think it’s safe to say the Obama’s put a whole new meaning to the popular mantra, “Work Hard, Play Hard”!

4.Beyonce in Illesteva: 10,283 Likes

‘Yonce’s birthday weekend synced perfectly with the Made In America Festival in Philadelphia, where hubby Jay-Z performed. I love when outfits are not too match-matchy, but rather play on other colors within the look. It was only right Bey wore a Houston Rockets jersey to represent for her hometown on the heels of hurricane Harvey.

Though she wore a bright yellow jacket by Fengchen Weng, the look was brought together with perfectly hued accessories like her red Illesteva sunglasses that complimented the aesthetics of her look. Not only was this practical festival attire, it was also great for a chill birthday weekend.

5. Monica in Peria Robertson: 7,828 Likes

Monica served cool mom vibes as she posted up with her son in a hot pair of Peria Robertson overalls. As evidenced in our recent Instagram posts, Monica knows how to transition from dressy to casual with ease. She’s proven to be quite the rock mom in the absence of her husband who is overseas.

That’s our round up for ya!

Claire’s Life: NaturallyCurly’s Texture On The Runway Show + Reporting Live from NYFW for Revolt TV

Happy 2nd day of New York Fashion Week!
For Day 1, I busied myself capturing street chic outside Skylight Clarkson for Revolt TV:

I stopped well dressed passerby and asked them a series of questions about their style, and what they’re excited for for New York Fashion Week.

Then it was time for NaturallyCurly’s Texture On The Runway powered by Sally Beauty! I snapped some Street Style before the festivities with bloggers @daynabolden @andinsommary @theondiaj and @rashida.banks:

Sponsored by Sally Beauty, the show highlighted how curly and coiled hair can act as the perfect statement piece to a fashionable look. Cantu Beauty, Shea Moisture, Carol’s Daughter, and more illustrated how their products can help achieve show stopping hairstyles.

Afterwards, I headed to Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty after party at Up & Down. Lots of fly Bombshells were in attendance, including Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Justine Skye, and so many more. I didn’t take any pictures, sadly, so you’ll have to take my word for it:)
For day 1, I wore a jacket by Cult de Jour and a Kareen Singh skirt.

Stay tuned for more, this is gonna be a busy season!
