Brand You Should Know: Show Twi’s Customizable Name Beaded Bracelets

Happy Cyber Monday!

Looking to add something fly to your shopping cart? Get into these fabulous beaded bracelets by Shop Twi.

The brand was started by Bombshell Shameka Reed after a trip to Accra, Ghana for what she describes as “a life changing experience.” She says, “The sights, sounds and people…simply amazing. I was deeply inspired during my time there, especially by the women,” Reed shares. “Similar to so many of the women I encounter on a daily basis, these women were strong, smart, enterprising, beautiful and had a magnetic glow. They epitomized black girl magic. I was amazed by them.”

Like most people when they travel, the Jackson, Mississippi native brought back a suitcase full of souvenirs and a lifetime of memories; souvenirs and gifts that included handmade- personalized bracelets created by a Ghanian female artisan.
I purchased bracelets with my name and the names of friends and family. I had never seen bracelets like these before. They were so colorful and beautiful with the combination of shamballa and African kobo beads. I received so many compliments on mine and everyone that I gave the bracelets to as gifts love them.

The 38 year-old serial/social entrepreneur said she knew right away that she wanted to work with the bracelet maker, but almost let doubt and fear discourage her.
“I had a hundred reasons why I thought this would work, but doubt kept creeping in. So I knew I had to do it. I could not let fear defeat me. After leaving Ghana, I had a 10 hour layover in Morocco and as soon as I got a good Wifi connection I sent the bracelet designer a message via WhatsApp and told her I wanted to work with her. We came to terms and signed a contract. In September I officially launched Twi (Twee), which is the exclusive American retailer of those bracelets.”

Twi doesn’t just sell bracelets and style, they are an economic and socially conscious business. Each month Twi partners with a non-profit, civic or social organization to support their efforts. A portion of every sell from the Shop Twi website is donated to that organization.

Reed adds, “I’m excited about the potential of Twi; the possibility of being able to improve the economic status of another woman; to support local, national and international organizations and to build a viable business that offers a truly unique product.”

An All-White Affair with the Ross Family on Thanksgiving

By: Morgan Smith (@muvamorgs) for Fashion Bomb Daily

Every year since 1924 Macy’s has hosted their annual and highly anticipated Thanksgiving Day Parade which is aired live on the NBC Network to bring in the Thanksgiving and holiday cheer. The parade is known for having some of the biggest celebrity appearances like John Legend, Rihanna, and more.

Diana Ross in Oscar de la Renta

Let’s not forget the main aspect behind Thanksgiving: family. Diana Ross and the rest of the Ross family including Evan, Tracee, Rhonda, Chudney, and Ross Naess came along with their mother who performed during the parade. On the Hallmark Channel’s advent calendar-themed float, Diana Ross delivered a spirited and cheery performance of “Wonderful Christmastime”. No white after Labor Day? I think not with the Diva of Soul. The Ross family was decked out from head to toe in all white ensembles, truly giving us a mixture of glam and holiday cheer!

Faith x Fashion: Style in the Church

By:  Fashion Bomb Intern Kiara Mar’Lynn @thekitoyourstyle

Hey Bombshells and Bombers!! Happy Sunday to you All!

Today we have a special feature for our readers in light of the Holiday season. Many times when you see fashion features, they include everyday fashion. Most show street style photos or content that bloggers have specifically created to show what they wear to work, brunch, social events, and more. Today we want to include another group of fashion that is not always featured on blogs. That group of fashion is Fashion in the Churches.

Each Sunday many women and men across the world get dressed in their Sundays Best for a morning and/or afternoon of worship. Some churches have Revivals, Convocations, Spring Workers Meetings, Youth events, and more where there are a series of church events back to back. So instead of just a “Sunday’s Best”, you may see men and women getting dressed up for a week straight in some of their finest garments. Many pull out their best suits, dresses, shoes, hats, furs, fascinators, jewelry, and more. One thing that the black church is known for is the beautiful hats that are worn in our churches.

Today we just wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the Style that was shown at the Church of God in Christ’s 2018 Holy Convocation. The Holy Convocation took place in St. Louis, MO at The Dome at the America’s Center in the Downtown area.

The women looked stunning in their white for Women’s Day. Many wore custom clothing and added fur, hats, fans, clutches, lap scarves, fascinators, and shoes to compliment their outfits.

They also served looks in their black for Official Day and some of the other services.

The men definitely came through in their suits during the week as well from printed suits to solid black. Plaid was definitely a trend for the week and bow-ties. Lets not leave out the loafer game because lets be honest what is the perfect suit without the perfect shoe to match.

Next we have the couples that were styling and profiling as a unit. It is a different kind of a special when you can match your significant other.

Next we are taking a moment to appreciate the dresses that the women wore. Most wore custom made dresses and added the perfect hat, fascinator, clutch, and/or lap scarves.

There were many fur stoles, coats, hats, and headbands present during the week. The weather was cold and snowy so it was the perfect match.

Lastly, we have a few stylish group photos from the week. Some were family photos and others were friend groups.

We hope that we can start to highlight some of the fashion in the Churches more often. For the chance to be featured on our page, be sure to tag us @fashionbombnews and hashtag #fashionbombdaily #fashionbombnews and #fashionbombchurch. We hope that you had a great Thanksgiving and had it in Style.

On the Scene: Red Carpet Looks from Inside the 2018 Governor’s Award

By: Morgan Smith (@muvamorgs) for Fashion Bomb Daily

This past Sunday, the Academy hosted their annual “Honorary Oscars” and this year marked the 10th anniversary of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Awards. The Governor’s Awards is hosted every year in November by the Academy as a pre-celebration for the industry’s best of the best when it comes to movies, actors, actresses, and more. This year history was made as Cicely Tyson received the Honorary Academy Award which made her the first black woman to ever receive such an honor. This was a long and well deserved recognition.

The guest list was nothing short of spectacular as it included our eye candy stars like Michael B. Jordan and our trailblazing movie royals like Lupita Nyong’o. And with it being a black tie event, you already know the stars were out and shining in their designer’s best!

This sustainable shoe brand has collabs with Comme des Garçons, Jason Wu and Vivienne Westwood this season

By Stephanie Ramlogan for Fashion Bomb Daily

Brazilian shoe brand Melissa is known for their plastic, or “Jellies” but the brand offers so much more! Aside from being a great vegan alternative to animal leathers, their list of pluses seems to keep growing! They’re uniquely made 100% of plastic, from the upper to the sole. The “P” word definitely gets a bad rap in the fashion industry, particularly for environmental implications, but Melissa is actually a sustainable zero waste shoe company. All the factory’s water and waste are recycled, as well as old shoe stock, which is melted down to make new styles. For comfort, I give them all the stars! They’re made of a very flexible material and are cushioned at the sole. They also smell great as they’re infused with some yummy subtle fruit fragrance, a small detail that still stands out. Of course, they’re also waterproof, so perfect for the season, especially the high boots that are padded with neoprene for extra warmth.

While they clearly are winning in the function department, you might expect the aesthetic to be dull, but they keep impressing. Throughout the year they collaborate with covetous high-end designers like Jason Wu, Vivienne Westwood, Marine Serre and Comme des Garçons! The best part (yes, it keeps getting better) is the price point! Shoes are typically within the $100 range, with higher end collabs staying well below the $300 mark.  I had to head over to their NYC Soho store to see (and smell) them for myself! At Comme des Garçons Paris Fashion Week show this year, this collaboration is actually what walked the runway.

Designer You Should Know: Kal Williams of VII Collection and CB Vior

Happy Almost Thanksgiving!
Today I wanted to bend your ear to a designer you must know: Kal Williams, the designer of VII Menswear Collection and co-Designer of Cynthia Bailey’s CB Vior handbags.

The serial entrepreneur grew up on the East Coast between Providence, Rhode Island and New York City before moving to Atlanta for Junior high school.

He says,”My background growing up as a first generation hip hop kid in New York, I watched fashion take off as a big cultural influence after working in the Entertainment Industry. It has armed me with a deep sense of understanding the background story of the 80’s & 90’s era to now, so I feel blessed to have been apart of that to give me a great foundation of understanding of fashion and street trends from all aspects.”

He continues, “I’ve always had a passion for fashion since I was young, my mom & dad owned a clothing store called “Freaky Fashions” so I was kinda involved as a kid helping out when my mom would go purchase inventory for the store. Being a breakdancer back in the day you had to be fresh so I always felt like I had good taste for putting things together visually and knew one day I would get my chance to design my own brands.”

His idea for the CB Vior line came about when Cynthia expressed a desire to create smaller bags at affordable prices. He says, “I came up with the name CB VIOR which means Vision & Interpretation. The CB are Cynthia’s initial’s.”

He adds, “My design philosophy is to about quality & function combined. Often nowadays we see nice designs that are poorly made so they don’t last long for the customer, this is not what I ever want for any of my design work. Our target audience is broad due to the appeal of the collection so that ranges from 18-50 yr olds, half women half men. Todays consumer lead’s a very active on the go lifestyle so our products help them to travel hands free while being stylish in either a messenger bag, fanny pack or mini backpack.”

In conclusion, he says, “We are currently offering a limited edition CB VIOR sportswear sweat shirt, so looks like we are moving into apparel selectively. You can stay updated with the brand on IG @CBVIOR or sign up for our email list for special offerings on our website at www.cbvior.com.”

For the fellas, also be sure to check out his VII Collection collection at VIICollection.com.
