Tips for Creating a Fashionable Apartment

If you’ve got a keen sense of style and you love to follow fashion, it’s not just yourself you can work your magic on. The place you live can be a showcase for your style and an extension of your personality too.

Interior design is just fashion for homes, so clothing and décor go together very well. If you want a new challenge, or the chance to expand your repertoire, take a look at how you could transform the place you live, so it’s a worthy representation of your style and individuality.

Living arrangements

In personal fashion, you’re entirely free to make your own choices about what you wear and how you look. It might not always be so easy when it comes to your accommodation though. You may be living at home or sharing an apartment with friends or a partner, in which case you’ll need to take their opinions into consideration. If you don’t own your home, there may be restrictions in place that limit what you’re able to change about the space.

If you’re living at home or you’re fed up with your current living arrangements, it might be time to think about moving on to somewhere new. Make an honest assessment of your outgoings and income so you can see how much rent you could afford each month, or what size mortgage you could take out. If your credit history is poor, or you have a low credit score, it’s still possible to get an apartment with bad credit, you just need to consult a specialist financial broker who can show you the options available and offer advice on managing your repayments.

If you have to share your living space, or you are renting, check what restrictions are in place that could affect your redecorating plans, and talk to your flatmates about your ideas. They may be delighted that you want to makeover the apartment, or they may have strong views about what they would and wouldn’t like, so it’s crucial to sort out all these factors before you start making plans.

Fashionable interiors

Once you have a firm idea of what you can and can’t do, start looking at interior design ideas and websites for inspiration. Just as with clothing and personal style, you don’t have to slavishly stick to what’s on trend at any given time. Use the ideas and fashions that are around and adapt them to add your personal stamp.

Start with the decorating, which provides the backdrop for your interiors. Look at plenty of different color charts, wallpaper designs, and wall-hangings to help you decide on a theme for the rooms you’re making over. If you’re new to interior design, find out as much as you can about how to mix and match colors and styles in order to create the effects you’re looking for.

It’s not unusual to decide on a color for your walls that you think looks beautiful in the store or on the website, only to find that when it’s on the walls, the light levels don’t work, and it doesn’t look as good as you imagined it would. Use tester pots and samples of wallpapers to try out at home and see how well your combinations work. You should also make sure you think about how you plan to furnish the room once it’s decorated. If you’re getting new items for the room, how will they look against the wall designs? If you have to keep what you’ve already got, how are you going to arrange the pieces to make the best use of the room?

Adding personality

It’s important to make your new design not only look fashionable and stylish but to have a place that you’re comfortable in and want to spend time using. Adding in your own personal touches can make the difference between a room looking like a photo in an interiors magazine and one that takes on your personality and looks like a home.

Photos and artworks that you’ve chosen, or created yourself, are a good way to introduce the personal element. You could also add in touches that reflect your own fashion sense or are more about you than about matching a ready-made design, for instance having a throw on the couch that your grandma made for you.

When you think about it, your home is a perfect place to experiment with new styles and designs, just as much as your body. It may take more effort to repaint a room than it does to change out of a dress, but the thrill of getting it right and designing a living space you can feel proud of makes the effort worthwhile.

Trend Spotlight: Statement Hair Pins

By: Morgan Smith (@muvamorgs) for Fashion Bomb Daily

Trends from the past seem to always make their way back into present times. Today, we see references of the 70s, 80s, and especially the 90s in today’s fashion. 90s fashion accessories are making a huge comeback in regards to statement hair accessories. Before the trend, hair pieces like bobby pins and hair ties were neutral colored and concealed under the hair. Today’s hair accessories are all about making a statement and making the wearer stand out, so they are full of bright colors, embellished with jewels, and more importantly…exposed!

Statement hair pins seen in streetwear and the runway shows are usually jeweled hair pins with sayings on them highlighting things like girl power and women empowerment or just have fun words like “GLAM” and “BABE”.

Ashley Williams has popularized the statement hair pins by including the hair accessory in its collections presented at London Fashion Week. The brand has attracted celebrities such as Selena Gomez who has been seen wearing the “UGLY” Ashley Williams hair pin out in public. Major designers have also hopped on the trend train. Gucci now has a crystalized Gucci hairpin which Rihanna wore with one of her Coachella looks this year. Chanel previewed a jeweled hair pin with the double C’s Chanel logo for their SS19 collection at Paris Fashion Week. By: Jennet Jusu (@TheJusuQuench) | FashionBombDaily Intern

“How in the hell can I get a cheetah, in time by Dec. 1st?”

Yup, you start thinking bazaar. Harper’s Bazaar that is. Thoughts dating back to Circa 2009, with Supermodel supreme Naomi Campbell in mind, assimilating with the animals in Africa for it’s September Issue entitled “Wild Things”. Captured by Jean-Paul Goude racing with a cheetah in the wild in Blumarine, or ever so flawlessly, in Alexander McQueen couture sitting atop an elephant, you stare panicky at all your attire in search for answers on just how? You of course have to keep in mind the possibility of angering the protesting mob

that’s PETA, or disappointing the fashion gods who never played it safe; ways paved in chic stilettos and loafers so effortlessly. How exactly can such a look be pulled off without looking like a zoo zazzy fool, all the while still pushing the matching the magnitude of such an iconic slay?  Well being put to the test will occur this Saturday by Editor-In-Chief of FashionBombDaily magazine, Claire Sulmers. Who has since made a stampede of a digital uproar with an announcement that ‘Convos with Claire’ will be occurring on the 1st of December in NYC! And many of the fashionistas alike can honestly say they’d be investing in a dream, and an iconic moment in time when you’re in a room full of greats and the up and coming. Like the woman who has aided in Hip-Hop’s ghetto glamour of a trajectory, Ms. Misa Hylton, also the mastermind behind majority of Lil’ Kim’s raw 90’s ghetto glamour. As well as luxury brand designer, Duckie Confetti, and pop culture aficionado Bevy Smith. So what do you do when you’re preparing to head to the concrete jungle, for a fierce, fashionable, and informative night? You go crazy…go wild…go in. After all you will be living one of your wildest dreams.

The Cover Girl Around the Way: Taraji P. Henson for Instyle Magazine

Written by: Jennet Jusu (@TheJusuQuench) | FashionBombDaily Intern

One can ask if $700 can truly invest in a dream, and I’ll have to show you a snapshot of Taraji killing it in a lead role, or perhaps her cover for Instyle Magazine. Because without question, the answer is hell yes. A once aspiring actress and single mom from Washington, D.C Taraji P. Henson shares with Instyle Magazine her highs and lows within her journey migrating to Los Angeles with just $700 dollars and her son, to being a Hollywood headliner, with 20+ years in the business to show for it. From sitcom appearances, and roles that amplified her place in in the industry as the infamous, and no nonsense Cookie Lyon on Empire, she shows she’s capable of doing this and that. Like fighting through the attempts of being typecast by performing immensely well in films such as: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Hidden Figures, as well as Hustle & Flow too. Not to mention her true start in the game with her debut Baby Boy. Henson continues breaking through boxes, by creating her own to check off and she does it proudly.

As mentioned in her article with Instyle Magazine, she reflects on how she was the Punky Brewster around the way, with the ability to recite Shakespeare, mind you, in the hood; unapologetically able to fight when she deemed it necessary, too, but only to survive and prevail through the struggles she was faced with. And her multifacetedness followed her through all the way into college where she attended North Carolina A & T to study engineering, with her father an influence on that decision. But he knew like she did that, that wasn’t where her true destiny lied. Which took her failing math and science classes to realize that perhaps, Howard University’s drama department was where she was supposed to be. Now she’s putting in more work by producing films that will be centering Emmett Till’s death, of his lynching in 1955, and establishing foundations such as the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation (named after her father), to encourage African-Americans to prioritize their mental health with resources by seeking help. Taraji P. Henson, through all her current and future endeavors, gives full proof that possibilities, even for a single mother that was told she couldn’t do it, could in fact can. Like her new film premiering in February 2019 that she stars and executive produces, she shows in What Women Want as Ali Davis, that they truly want the opportunity to be all that they can be, with no limits that they’ll only just break through, regardless.

Can We Expect a Fashion Nova x Cassie Collab Next?

By: Morgan Smith (@muvamorgs) for Fashion Bomb Daily

R&B Singer Cassie recently posted a series of photos of her and two other models, wearing clothes by the internet famous brand, Fashion Nova. Cassie is one of the many celebrities that regularly wears and supports Fashion Nova by tagging them on Instagram.

Cardi B also frequently buys from and promotes the brand on her Instagram and her rising fame in the industry earned her the opportunity to collab with the brand. Her collection at Fashion Nova released a few weeks ago and sold out in seconds. Kylie Jenner even had her own collection of Fashion Nova jeans. Not to mention, Fashion Nova was quick to release recreations of the Kardashian family’s looks from Kylie’s 21st birthday bash which went viral on the Internet!

So, maybe Fashion Nova realized the potential and results in having popular celebrities do clothing collaborations with them and maybe…just maybe Fashion Nova x Cassie will be coming next.

Beauty Maven Supa_Cent Sells $1 Million in Products on Cyber Monday

Written by: Jennet Jusu (@TheJusuQuench) | FashionBombDaily Intern

It was the sale heard around the world, or mainly her 1.2M followers on Instagram, that knows her as @Supa_Cent, or notoriously ‘Wuzzam Supa’. The creator and CEO of her cosmetic line The Crayon Case. A New Orleans, Louisiana native who is the epitome of hustle and strength, there’s no question Supa has a drive that black girls around the way, can declare there’s truly superpowers and a lot of magic within us for real. To the masses, she was introduced to us through Vine for her crazy hilarious and comedic spirit that made her harsh reality of growing up in the hood oh, so real. But it’s the realness and authenticity that makes her thorough and the natural born hustler her supporters grew to love and witness blossom into a boss. A mother and fiancee first, and now CEO and Entrepreneur, customers and followers can assure that she does and will not lose.

On November 26, 2018, with a warning that a sale would be hitting the internet for Cyber Monday, we were informed that a 60% sale would be placed for her cosmetic line that her customers couldn’t help but take advantage of. The cosmetic line that caters to the amateurs within the makeup world, Supa has created a line for makeup with it’s creative concept of taking you back to grad school that’ll leave you at awe. From ‘Arts & Crafts’ swatches, ‘Honor Roll’ highlighters, ‘Box of Crayons’ eyeshadows, and ‘Chalk Dust’ setting powders, guys and girls are taken back to school for a lesson in true beautification and glamour.

And like a true boss, in just an hour and a half into her sale that started 10am CST, she garnished over one million dollars for her Cyber Monday sale, that’s just for one day. It’s important to note liked she’d declare: There’s no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs. And there’s no question that Supa grinds to break barriers for her loving supporters, and most importantly her son, to witness. From teaching, which she declares as true NOLA endearment her ‘nieces’ some mastered cooking skills with #CookinWithSupa, or even offering raw and authentic advice on her Instagram segments of  #AskSupa, there’s no limit of what she can do and accomplish. Starting from the bottom as a Hurricane Katrina survivor, we stand witness to a broken crayon that’s still coloring.
