If you’re up-to-date on your Instagram news, then you’re well-aware of the record-breaking heatwave that swept through New Orleans, LA this past weekend. No need to check your weather app for confirmation if you haven’t heard because you won’t find it there. The heatwave I’m referring to is Essence Festival 2018 baaaaaaaby!!
Heaps of beautifully cultured humans from faraway places gathered in the Crescent City over the weekend to celebrate black excellence and power. The atmosphere reeked of fun energy, daiquiris, bedazzled t-shirts, unique clothing prints, seafood, edge control, and Drake’s new song In My Feelings. Even though the sights were nothing short of comical and intriguing, we couldn’t let the happenings distract us from our mission to find the thing that really makes this festival pop – the FASHION! On each corner, at every restaurant, venue, and hotel were natural-haired, fashionably clad individuals who made our style meter ring off the hook! Without further ado, get into some of the Essence Festival 2018 street style captured below!
As if the streets weren’t already blazing, Tori Shalea brought extra heat in this all black, around-the-way girl ensemble!
Red and gold were Kierra’s colors of choice for Essence Fest. Those high-waist shorts accented her fire, red hair perfectly!
How cute was Jade in this eclectic look?! Does this look make anyone else miss the 90’s, or is it just nostalgic for us??
Ososee gave us the blues in this star-printed, off-the-shoulder frock. Cute and festive!
Pep gave us some shoulder action with this fun blouse. Denim and stripes will never steer a fashionista wrong!
A jogger set was a smart way to go for a busy festival weekend like Essence. The side detailing on this look elevated its cuteness!
Oh you know we had to get some of the fellas in on the street style too! How fly was Shaun in his red beret, Stevie tee, and distressed jeans?! Oh and don’t forget about his Jeremy Scott bag!! Dope!

So Drake’s new album, Scorpion, recently dropped! And in addition to launching a host of hot songs, it has also spurred a dance craze, initiated by IG star and dancer @TheShiggyShow:
After blessing the ‘Gram with his interpretive dance (which includes mostly freestyle moves, plus emotive gestures for ‘Do you Love Me’ and ‘Are you Riding?’ , it seems everyone has hopped onto the #InMyFeelings Challenge. In the midst of dusting off my dance moves, I uncovered these ten that seriously stole the show:
1. Lala and the Fam
Lala hit the pool with friends, family, and kids doing her interpretation in a Gucci logo top and red biker shorts. Yes to the gratuitous booty shaking!
Ciara is known for her dance moves, so it’s no surprise she dipped it down low for her try at the #InMyFeelings Challenge while on vacation in South Africa. Hubby Russell Wilson looks very pleased with her take!
OBJ represented for the fellas, stepping out of his car on a mountainous cliff to break it down.
4. Dani Leigh
Dani Leigh had one of the best dances out of the non celeb set. She raised the bar by doing the dance while her car was still in motion. She’s a Bombshell!
@DavidMooreTV did it for the teens in a neon shirt and sneaks. A+ for originality and creativity!
6. TSNooah
Do the Shiggy in the desert! Yes to the crop top and those orange camo pants!
7. Lonnie Bee
I love Lonnie Bee and adored his energetic offering. Way to slay!
8. Uncle Azeez
On the go, but still want to do the challenge? Uncle Azeez lit up the aisle on a plane. This was hilarious.
9. The Robin B
The Robin B not only killed the dance, but her outfit is super cute! Hand over that colorblock crop top!
10. Homer Simpson
Even cartoons are getting in on the fun. @Homaogosh0. A drunk homer Simpson takes the cake for animated characters, but the challenge lives on…
I’m about to do some stretching and see if I can get my friends to do one this weekend.

I love Simone I Smith hoops! They are the only hoops I wear–they’re bold, big, and beautiful!
Which is why I was super juiced to learn that Simone collaborated with Mary J Blige on a collection called ‘Sister Love.’

Dapper Dan x Gucci is all over Essence Fest! Mary J Blige performed on the main stage in custom pieces from his collection.
Taking logo loving to the extreme, each piece boasts bright colors, GG symbols, and oversized labels.
I love what this represents, but I’m not a huge fan of these particular pieces. I would have loved to see any of the below, but the year is still young.

Beyonce and Jay Z performed at Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as part of their “On The Run II Tour” on Friday evening. Saturday found them with a day off, so they took the opportunity to drive the hour trip from Milano to Como. For their excursion, Beyonce wore a $860 MSGM Tie Dye and Floral Dress while Jay styled in a $45 Planes x The Family Crown hat with a PUMA x AC Milan T7 tracksuit and Clyde sneakers.
