Fashion, Business, and Kanye West: Fashion’s Only Black Billionaire; Is He the Future Steve Jobs of Style?

Kanye West is the first black fashion billionaire.

Those who have made massive fortunes from fashion are an exclusive bunch; Bernard Arnault leads the herd as the richest man in the world and the head of conglomerate LVMH. The French businessman has amassed $110 Billion thanks to his glittering portfolio of over 70 brands including Louis Vuitton, Fenty, Givenchy, Sephora, and Dior. 

Other fashion billionaires? Amancio Ortega of Zara, Phil Knight of Nike, Francois Pinault of Kering (Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Gucci), and Ralph Lauren.

In April, Kanye West joined the Billionaire’s Club , with Forbes tabulating his net worth at $3 Billion. While West is most known for his music (and his antics), according to Business Insider, the majority of West’s fortune comes from his ownership of his fashion brand, Yeezy, which was valued at $3 Billion. West is the sole owner.

West’s relationship to the fashion world has been one characterized both by controversy and blockbuster success. His status as a taste maker and trendsetter are undeniable, and his innovative ideas, though met with derision at first, eventually find legions of loyal fans.

Despite his alien-esque foam runners selling out in less than a minute and lines forming around the block for his Yeezy sneakers, Kanye always seems to take the stance that he is fighting an uphill battle in the fashion industry. Who could forget when he notoriously complained about gaining access on Sway in the Morning, yelling, “You Ain’t Got the Answers, Sway!” when the radio host asked him why he couldn’t bootstrap his own fashion brand.

But it seems Ye has had all the answers all along. Through his wildly successful collaboration with Adidas, and now his forthcoming collection with the GAP, West is on the path to industry domination.

Jordyn Woods and her boyfriend Karl-Anthony Towns went out for a date night at Spotify’s House of Are and Be event. For the night out, Jordyn wore a cutout black top and $80 I AM GIA “Carrie” pant.

3. Lil Kim and Kash Doll in Shane Justin: 14,566 likes

Lil Kim, Kash Doll and Erykah Badu attended the Dallas Southern Pride festival! Erykah Badu wore a salmon pink blazer paired with a grey t-shirt, tie-dye sweatpants and Nike sneakers. Rihanna promoted her latest Fenty Beauty product, Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer wearing LaQuan Smith’s Tuxedo Bodysuit in hot orange and the Moto Pants. She wore a pair of hoop earrings and sported her wispy wavy mullet hairstyle along with a fiery makeup look including the newest Gloss Bomb to complete her look.

Trina appeared at her Verzuz battle against Eve wearing the Tuxedo Bodysuit in scarlet and Moto Pants. Saweetie Steps Out to the Highlight Room in LA Wearing Rhude Bomber Jacket, Bikini Bandana Print Top and Black Logo Handbag

In honor of Paris Fashion Week, Rhude held its first fashion show in LA for its Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Saweetie was amongst the attendees of the show as she was spotted donning a full look by the brand. She later appeared at The Highlight Room in LA wearing another look by Rhude that was street-chic and perfect for the season.

Saweetie wore pieces from Rhude’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection including a green and gold bomber jacket, white and yellow bandana print bikini top, and a black logo crossbody bag. She paired the pieces with a pair of distressed jeans and oversized hoop earrings.

Rihanna’s Dior by John Galliano pink dress is from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2002 collection. It appears as a slip dress in a sheer pink fabric that can be worn alone or underneath a garment. The dress features thin spaghetti straps along with a revealing thigh slit. It is no longer available as it sold on 1st Dibs for $14,800 along with a hooded dress from the same collection.
