Fashionista reports that Jean Paul Gaultier will be the next designer to collaborate with Target:
They say, “He’s the third designer after Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui to participate in this series, which shouldn’t be confused with Go! International (even though it’s much more international). Contributing to the series demands a muse, and Gaultier’s chosen the American woman, and America’s pop culture, as his.”
The hot collection will be in Target stores from March 7th to April 11th.
Amber Rose certainly sparkled last night at Elle Magazine’s 16th Annual Women in Hollywood Event, rocking a hot red sweetheart strapless, a nameplate necklace, diamond studs, and nude platform pumps. You can easily get a similar look for a night on the town with these pieces:

Dope Blog Your Private Shopper had the following video of a CNN emission on French Vogue’s Blackface Controversy:
CNN called the issue, “the cringe heard around the world” and “culturally insensitive” among other things, and even conjectured that this controversy could run Carine Roitfeld from Paris to American Vogue.
Interesting stuff. I’m sure the Paris Vogue team didn’t expect this much of an uproar!
What do you think?
Washington Post fashion editor Robin Givhan recently wrote an article addressing the hubbub over Karl Lagerfeld’s statements about round women and the idealization of thin models in general. She surmises that thin is ‘in’ because fashion represents a fantasy world where the exalted is the exact opposite of our boring reality : an increasingly obese populace.
She says, “All those emaciated models have to be seen against the backdrop of a population that is overwhelmingly afflicted with obesity…The fatter the general population, the thinner the idealized woman. And for all the public posturing and blogging, the only force that stopped people from buying clothes and magazines was the souring economy, not righteous indignation over skinny models.” She concludes the piece saying, “Maybe all of the demands that editors and photographers just use heavier models have been misguided. Because before fashion models will get any bigger, people in general will just have to get smaller.”
Givhan brings up a good point, but I must ask you guys: when you see a designer, like Karl Lagerfeld, who makes no pains to diversify his runways and speaks out regularly against ’round women,’ are you less inclined to purchase Chanel? Will you hesitate to buy that hot Chanel lipstick, nail polish, or bag because you feel the brand doesn’t ‘represent’ you? Fashion is at its base exclusionary, but when it comes to consumers, I would hope all designers would be more interested in catering to the mass market, not just a tiny sliver of stick thin women. The more relatable, the better.
The rapper’s delight?
Leather vests. Jay-Z wore a brown leather creation over a denim jacket for his Lil Mama interrupted MTV music awards performance, and Nelly wore a black quilted vest for another MTV production:
If you’re more of a colorful chap, you can always opt for purple like Diddy:
However you roll, be prepared to spend a grip OR go for more affordable with faux:
Our Bombshell for this beautiful Monday is the dashing Brooke, a student at Stanford in Palo Alto:
About her style, the NYC native says, “My style is so incredibly varied that to define it under a specific label seems exclusionary. I will say however, that I hope my style hinges on the idea of eccentric glamour.”
“…Eccentric, because I love eclectic and ornate details like my jewelry from Morocco, my vintage leopard print trench and suede fringe vest.”
“…So I ground these outlandish pieces on well made classics like cashmere sweaters, cigarette pants or well tailored blazers. Glamour is important because it suggests a certain timelessness but eccentricity is key in creating a look all my own.“
Of course Brooke has a blog of her own, aptly titled Glamorous Eccentric (www.glamorouseccentric.com) where she profiles her wardrobe faves, strikes a pose, then gives you curious stylistas the scoop on where she bought each of her items:
You better work Ms. Brooke! Loving your knee high boots, blue jersey dress…everything!

Add a little humor to your wardrobe with this Laughing Lips merino sweater by Markus Lupfer:
The sequined top is a great choice to lift daytime denim or leggings. Team with flat boots for days in the city or pumps for a night on the town.
While the sweater is super cute, unfortunately the $385 pricetag is sort’ve a joke. Haha. We’ll definitely have to wait for this one to go on sale!
If price is no object for you, pair the sweater with these pieces:
As an aside, doesn’t this seem like something Carrie Bradshaw would wear?
So this weekend the 4th Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards went down, and new Fashion Bomb NYC correspondent, Kisha, was in the house!
Ki worked the red carpet for the star studded event, asking everyone from June Ambrose to Janelle Monae about what’s hot for fall, their personal style, and hot beauty picks!
Here’s her review!
***************************************************************************************** Hey Bombshells!
Kisha here with a review of this weekend’s Black Girls Rock! Awards show.
There were tons of stars on the red carpet, and as I chit chatted with them about fashion and style, there was one recurring theme: you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look fab! From June Ambrose mentioning that she shops at KMart to celebrity makeup artist A.J. Crimson suggesting we use drug store makeup, affordability is apparently in! I guess we shouldn’t be surprised when you have Anna Sui working with Target and Jimmy Choo collaborating with H&M. It’s a great time to have fun with fashion and not break the bank!
Here’s a quick rundown:
June Ambroseloves the Fashion Bomb! I asked her about fall trends, and she said she’s excited to see lots of color. She added that shoes are very avant garde and high for the season, which she loves because she’s super petite. She admitted to shopping at KMart and wants people to know that fashion is not all about how much you spend. It’s about how you put everything together!
Raven Symonewas giving fierce looks on the carpet! I asked Raven if she works with a stylist and she joked, “Sometimes…when I look good that means I used one.” Her favorite designer is DKNY and she confessed to shopping at TJ Maxx. I asked her if there was any truth to the jokes she made in Good Hair about possibly starting a hair line/wig collection. She said, “there is truth in every joke. I definitely have something in the works!”
Celebrity make-up artist to Estelle & Fergie A.J. Crimson was in the house! I asked him what he thought was the best make-up brand out there for women of color, and he suggested good old fashioned drug store cosmetics. He responded, “I like Jordana makeup which is available in Walgreens.” He added, “Sephora products are great and cheap. Bobbi Brown foundation and Makeup Forever are my #1 for coloring. Lip gloss is essential!” Of course he also recommends products from Kissable Couture, a makeup line he co-owns with Keisha Whittaker. Check it out at www.kissablecouture.com.
Iyanla Vanzant was there with her dashing son! In response to “What advice would you give to young women considering plastic surgery?” Inyanla responded, “Spend as much time as you can without a bra. Take it off! Get accustomed to the natural feel of your body and you won’t feel the need to add anything artificial.” Ha!
Diva Jacque Reid told us that the best beauty advice she’s ever received was, “Get some sleep! Sleep is the key to being beautiful.” I also asked her about her favorite cosmetic brand and she said “Black Opal! All of the professional makeup artists that have done my makeup have drug store products in their kit!”
And lastly, I caught up with Janelle Monae who was adorable! She told us that all of her suits are custom made and describes her style as classic, simple, and, “Just my own”.
Overall I had a really good time. The event was beautiful and inspirational!

Great job, Kisha!
What do you guys think of her first event review?
