Add a little humor to your wardrobe with this Laughing Lips merino sweater by Markus Lupfer:
The sequined top is a great choice to lift daytime denim or leggings. Team with flat boots for days in the city or pumps for a night on the town.
While the sweater is super cute, unfortunately the $385 pricetag is sort’ve a joke. Haha. We’ll definitely have to wait for this one to go on sale!
If price is no object for you, pair the sweater with these pieces:
As an aside, doesn’t this seem like something Carrie Bradshaw would wear?
So this weekend the 4th Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards went down, and new Fashion Bomb NYC correspondent, Kisha, was in the house!
Ki worked the red carpet for the star studded event, asking everyone from June Ambrose to Janelle Monae about what’s hot for fall, their personal style, and hot beauty picks!
Here’s her review!
***************************************************************************************** Hey Bombshells!
Kisha here with a review of this weekend’s Black Girls Rock! Awards show.
There were tons of stars on the red carpet, and as I chit chatted with them about fashion and style, there was one recurring theme: you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look fab! From June Ambrose mentioning that she shops at KMart to celebrity makeup artist A.J. Crimson suggesting we use drug store makeup, affordability is apparently in! I guess we shouldn’t be surprised when you have Anna Sui working with Target and Jimmy Choo collaborating with H&M. It’s a great time to have fun with fashion and not break the bank!
Here’s a quick rundown:
June Ambroseloves the Fashion Bomb! I asked her about fall trends, and she said she’s excited to see lots of color. She added that shoes are very avant garde and high for the season, which she loves because she’s super petite. She admitted to shopping at KMart and wants people to know that fashion is not all about how much you spend. It’s about how you put everything together!
Raven Symonewas giving fierce looks on the carpet! I asked Raven if she works with a stylist and she joked, “Sometimes…when I look good that means I used one.” Her favorite designer is DKNY and she confessed to shopping at TJ Maxx. I asked her if there was any truth to the jokes she made in Good Hair about possibly starting a hair line/wig collection. She said, “there is truth in every joke. I definitely have something in the works!”
Celebrity make-up artist to Estelle & Fergie A.J. Crimson was in the house! I asked him what he thought was the best make-up brand out there for women of color, and he suggested good old fashioned drug store cosmetics. He responded, “I like Jordana makeup which is available in Walgreens.” He added, “Sephora products are great and cheap. Bobbi Brown foundation and Makeup Forever are my #1 for coloring. Lip gloss is essential!” Of course he also recommends products from Kissable Couture, a makeup line he co-owns with Keisha Whittaker. Check it out at www.kissablecouture.com.
Iyanla Vanzant was there with her dashing son! In response to “What advice would you give to young women considering plastic surgery?” Inyanla responded, “Spend as much time as you can without a bra. Take it off! Get accustomed to the natural feel of your body and you won’t feel the need to add anything artificial.” Ha!
Diva Jacque Reid told us that the best beauty advice she’s ever received was, “Get some sleep! Sleep is the key to being beautiful.” I also asked her about her favorite cosmetic brand and she said “Black Opal! All of the professional makeup artists that have done my makeup have drug store products in their kit!”
And lastly, I caught up with Janelle Monae who was adorable! She told us that all of her suits are custom made and describes her style as classic, simple, and, “Just my own”.
Overall I had a really good time. The event was beautiful and inspirational!

Great job, Kisha!
What do you guys think of her first event review?
So if you follow me on Twitter, you’d know that this past Friday I was having trouble deciding between sitting at home with a DVD or going to Ghubar Magazine’s (www.ghubar-magazine.com) October issue release party. Why?
Well it’s getting frightfully cold here in Paris, and nothing sounded more divine than sipping Mint Tea and watching Tyler Perry! But even though I was in a nesting mood, I eventually decided to throw on my sequined dress and head out. I’m glad I did, because I was able to meet some amazing people and snap Real Style! Check it out:
Sarah Diouf, the 21 year-old editor-in-chief of Ghubar Magazine, looked snazzy in a corset top, high waisted pants, and a sequined blazer. She topped off her chic menswear inspired outfit with strappy stilettos and bright red lipstick. Hot!
These two young ladies work in the fashion department of the magazine, and represented well for their positions in a high shoulder sheer shirt, leather mini skirt, and platform pumps on the left, and a Chanel inspired blazer, ripped tee, and open toe shoe boots on the right.
These party goers were working the prints! I loved young lady on the left’s neon floral strapless, and diva on the right’s patterned mini set off by thigh high boots.
The stylish girls of Paris Most Wanted were in the house, rocking one shoulder denim jumpers and exotic print tops.
And men were representing as well, with this dapper gentleman looking fly in stylish specs, a button down shirt, and a cool cardigan.
I had to take a pic of this young lady, who was rocking the “Karl Who?” Tee by Naco that we wrote about here. How cool is she?
And I loved this girl’s simple look–Parisians can even make t-shirts and jeans look unequivocally chic!
All in all I had a great time:
And if you haven’t checked out Ghubar Magazine, what are you waiting for?!?
It represents the best in French mulitcultural style, fashion, and fun. It’s a must read!
After nearly a year and a half of bringing you fashion news, Hot or Hmms, and celebrity features, it’s time to bid you good-bye.
I started out as just a Fashion Bomb reader, so to write for the site has been a real privilege. For that, I thank Claire tremendously for taking me on as an intern, introducing me to the world of fashion blogging, and allowing me to grow as a writer.
Thanks, too, to Vuitton and Eileen for being wonderful, generous colleagues.
But a lot of the thanks goes to you. The Fashion Bomb’s community of readers is one any writer would be fortunate to serve: warm, smart, and funny, there’s also a basic level of appreciation and respect from all, even when everyone may not agree on the latest Rih-Rih outfit or Beyoncé in a pair of tights.
My friend sent me over this fun fashion video, and I had to post:
In 1930, designers were asked to predict what would be fashionable in the year 2000. Some ideas like pants and the cantilever heel have in fact come to fruition. Others, not so much.
I smell a Halloween costume coming on!!
Normally demure Kelly Rowland donned a metallic paneled catsuit to an event last night that was strikingly similar to a silver number Amber Rose wore to SwaggMedia’s Persona Magazine Launch:
Sure the colors are different, but both outfits boast a plunging neckline, contrast panels, and an *ahem* tight fit.
Though Amber Rose and catsuit go together like milk and coffee, I think perhaps Kelly Rowland brought it home in this toe-to-toe. Her dark tendrils play well against her catsuit’s gold, black, and gray tones, and everything from her booties to bedazzled earrings make the outfit shine.
Amber certainly looks saucy…but perhaps it’s those albino contacts that throw her look off.
What do you think?
*Update* According to Love B Scott, the ladies are wearing catsuits from designer Pam Hogg’s Fall 2009 collection:
