Need some tips on what to rock this winter? Look sophisticated and dapper in comfy shawl collar sweaters:
Rock a pullover like Cudi and Trey, or go for chunky cardigans like Diddy or David Beckham. However you do it, you’ll look like a distinguished gentleman:
Release your inner vamp this season with an ensemble inspired by 80’s group Vanity 6:
Slip on a strapless cocktail ensemble amped up with fingerless lace gloves and diamonds. Add a dash of saucy edge with bedazzled shoes, look at me eyelashes, and frosty pink lipstick:
So while of course it’s fun to analyze the styles of ever fashionable Rihanna, Beyonce, and Zoe, sometimes we’ve gotta give props to the few lovely up and comers who have their own swag, but might not be splashed on the front of every blog and magazine.
This year, The Fashion Bomb has taken the liberty of naming our own Undercover Fashion Chic Queen of 2009:
Shingai Shoniwa.
The UK born lead singer and bassist for indie rock band the Noisettes has been blazing red carpets in London and beyond in a flurry of mind blowing ensembles. Let’s take a look:
The half Zimbabwean beauty makes a splash in high hemmed frocks and layered skirts, with silhouettes that highlight her small waist and long legs.
Boldly confident and daring, she embraces everything from ruffles to bright colors, and can even make fashion faux pas’ like exposed bras and glorified hot pants look haute.
A confirmed fashionista, Shingai works the snuff out of everything from Vivienne Westwood to John Pierre Braganza, all the while accenting her look-at-me outfits with neon nails and a flattering bouffant hairstyle.
And even rocked a variation of a David Koma dress Beyoncé wore earlier in the year, but added her own flourish with a bright red bolero and multicolored purse.
What do you think of this year’s undercover fashionista?

Today I wanted to introduce you to a hot young stylist, Fatima B:
The supremely driven Bombshell is a Fashion Director at Black Beat and Right On! Magazines, and has styled Christina Milian, Nicki Minaj, Soulja Boy, Juelz Santana, and BET’s Terrence J.
So how did such a pretty young thing get so far, so fast? She took a break from pursuing a Business Management degree to intern for 50 Cent’s stylist, where she went over and above the call of duty. She said, “I learned from her. When I was working for her, I wasn’t thinking about the pay…I wasn’t getting paid! But if she called me at 3am to do job, I did it. I was consistent, organized, and on point.“
A year and a half later, and now you’ll find Fatima styling shoots, running to showrooms, and collaborating with some of the industry’s hottest up and comers (yes, she was the brainchild behind Nicki Minaj’s fabulous Limpasse Lace Dress!):
When working with clients she says, “You have to make sure the client is comfortable in what they’re wearing. Try to get to know them and collaborate with them to come up with an image. You don’t want to to put an artist in an element where their music and style don’t match.”
Fatima referenced her childhood in Japan to inform her current client, Nicki Minaj’s look. She explains, “Nicki came to me with the idea of looking like a living doll. We collaborated to create a Harajuku Barbie.”
Regarding all the controversy surrounding Nicki’s look, she says, “Madonna did something similar in the 80’s, but it was fashion when it came to her. There’s a double standard, but people always have something to say.“
As for her own look, Fatima’s winter staples include her Moncler Jacket, slick thigh high boots, ripped J Brand Jeans, and her favorite faux fur vest:
In conclusion, Fatima urges you aspiring stylists out there to, “…definitely intern, and get lots of experience. You have to be hungry! Don’t do it for the money or the glamour, because a lot of the job isn’t glamorous! It’s a tough business and for some people it takes 10 years, but you just have to motivate!”

While I touched upon a few hot Beauty Trends in my AOL post, there were so many more that came onto the scene in ’09!
Let’s take a quick beauty walk down memory lane:
1. Minx Nails
The cool nail coverings were a certified celeb fave, with everyone from Solange to Sheree Whitfield rocking the look in patterns or plain. Ever creative, a few stars even made their Minx political…
…placing our President on their thumbnails.
2. Dark Plum Lipstick
90’s staple dark plum lipstick made a certified comeback in the ’09, as Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Melody Thornton were spotted sporting the sultry look.
Hot!
3. Shaved Hairstyles
Hip Hop starlets couldn’t seem to get enough of the clippers! While Solange created a controversy by completely lopping her locks off, most, including Cassie, Keyshia, and Lala, went for the half shaved look.
4. Neon Pedicures
While Minx mani’s made waves, celebs also got creative with their pedi’s, wearing bright yellow, pink, and orange to play up their red carpet looks.
5. Tattoos
Celebs opted for primly placed tattoos to subtly assert their personality. Their new ink sparked discussions here on the Fashion Bomb on the intersection of Tattoos and Fashion.
