Summer 2010 Trend : Mixed Prints

Only the bold need apply to the latest spring/summer 2010 trend: mixed prints.

Mixing patterns artfully can be super tricky, so stick to these rules if you want to give it a go:

1. Make sure one color repeats in every piece of the outfit (like Genevieve Jones, if you have an orange paisley print on top, you should have orange in whatever print you choose on the bottom).

2. Combine loose prints with structured prints (think swirls or flowers with stripes).

3. Blend small designs with large prints (think gingham mixed with bold flowers, or animal print with geometric patterns).

4. Think of stripes as neutrals that you can pair with anything.

5. Have fun!

Mix patterns flawlessly with these fun separates:

Fashion Discussion : How Much Would You Spend on a Hot Pair of Shoes?

Fashion Bomb divas Kelly Rowland and Kim Kardashian have both been spied wearing Nicholas Kirkwoord x Rodarte’s hot hot hot (now sold out) Corroded Brasswood Pumps:

I would cut a b*tch for those shoes…and it seems I would have to with their pricetag of $2,153.
Though alleged cheap shoe devotee Rosa Acosta wholeheartedly supported buying practically priced shoes, I know we’ve all been caught up in expensive shoe lust at one time or another.

There are those fuchsia patent leather Louboutins that you just can’t stop drooling over, or that perfectly studded pair of Brian Atwoods that would go just right with your summer dresses.

Yes, they look lovely and fit your feet just right–but how much would you splurge on a pair of hot shoes if you saw ’em today?

I’ll go first. I believe the most I’ve spent on a pair of shoes would have to be the $300 I shelled out for a pair of red patent leather Kenneth Cole sandals.  I was going to see Andre Leon Talley speak for the first time at the MET and wanted to wow in case I got a 1-on-1. The in person meet n’ greet never happened, but I still have those hot show stoppers (just in case).

What about you?

Fashion Bombshell of the Day : Tobi from Philly

Hey guys!
Today’s Bombshell, Tobi, was nominated by her older sister Yewande:

Yewande says, “I am writing to nominate my little sister Tobi. She is currently a sophomore pre-med student at the University of Pennsylvania.”

“… My sister works very hard in her studies but still manages to find time to have fun (and she does it in style). Her fashion sense is very eclectic yet chic for someone of her young age and it makes me proud to see that she has blossomed into such a beautiful, respectful young lady.”

“… I wrote this just to acknowledge her awesomeness and give her style a shining spotlight.”

“…Thanks!!”
This is so sweet! I agree, Tobi, you have a great fashion sense. My favorite would have to be your cropped top and ripped jeans in the first picture.

American Apparel Says Plus Size Women are ‘Not Their Demographic’

If you’ve every visited an American Apparel store and tried to slither your body into one of their more skin clinging spandex dresses, you’d already know that the California based chain doesn’t necessarily fashion clothes with the curvy girl in mind.

L.A.-based plus-size adult star April Flores must have also taken issue with the sizes of the clothes, and asked an American Apparel showroom rep if they’d ever make plus-size clothing. The representative replied, “That’s not our demographic.”

With a name like American Apparel, you’d hope they made clothes that could fit all Americans of all body types. But instead the brand that started off with mainly standard t-shirts and spandex leggings has expanded into a line of micro minis and dresses that reveal every nook and cranny. I’m good, I’ll pass.

Fashion Bombshell of the Day : Cierra from North Carolina

Hey Guys!
Cierra from Durham, North Carolina is kicking off our Fashion Bombshell goodness for the week:

She says, “I would describe my style as comfortable and chic.”

“… I have always been a curvy girl, so growing up it was always so hard to find cute clothing that fit my body. In recent years I have learned to embrace my body and find my own personal style.”

” I am grateful for stores such as Evans, Dorothy Perkins, Asos, Torrid, and Faith 21. These stores provide young curvy girls with trendy and affordable clothing.”

” One thing I have learned is that you should always “Try it On”. If the size is not yours, still try it on because it may work for you.”

” I love bold jewelry, body con skirts, blazers and pumps. I want to be an inspiration to plus size women in general. Fashion is a form of expression and I think we should embrace that!”

Cute looks Cierra! Love, love, loving your bold red jacket!
