Claire’s Life: Vivienne Westwood’s Chivas Regal Private Dinner

Hey Hey!

So after the Vivienne Westwood show, my friend invited me to tag along as his guest to a private dinner with the designer, sponsored by spirits company Chivas Regal:

We sampled organic see bass, roast sirloin, and stinking bishop cheese, all the while sipping an assortment of wines and Chivas Regal Whiskey. I was super juiced when I saw model and actress Tolula Adeyemi enter the room:

As one of Vivienne Westwood’s muses, she was of course on hand to partake in the festivities. I told her about the Fashion Bomb and she said, “I thought I saw my picture on there before!” She was the definition of sweet and chic!

I didn’t get a chance to chat with la Dame Westwood herself, though I managed to snap a quick picture:

I was having an ‘I’m not worthy’ moment, and dared not approach. She seemed pleasant, and appeared to enjoy the Chivas Regal as much as we did. It was a delightful dinner:

Afterwards, my friend Will and I two-stepped over to the Mulberry party at Claridge’s, where we ran into my friend and stylist, Joel Dash. If you don’t know about Joel, you will soon! Stay tuned.

At any rate, the Mulberry party, like the show, had a Fantastic Mr. Fox theme. So we put on some fox masks and posed with Emma Hill, creative director of the brand:

It was an amazing night. I’m running to Paul Smith, then Giles later on this evening. Busy, busy, busy.

Stay tuned for more instances from my life. Oh and visit my Tumblr www.xoxoclaire.com for more snapshots that didn’t make the blog.

Smootches!

*I pulled out my Ashtyn birthday dress for the night, and accessorized with earrings by Lia Sophia and my favorite Sessilee necklace by ken + dana design.

*Thanks Will!

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Jacque from Kansas

Hey Guys!

We’re closing out this fashionable week with Jacque from Kansas:

She says, “I’d say my style is classic with the tiniest bit of edge here and there.”

“…Not to knock Kansas but we get trends really late, so I’ve stop trying to be “on trend” and I’ve started dressing the way I like.”

” I know it’s not really out there or pushing boundaries, but I’m a pre-nursing student so comfort comes first!”

” It’s so hard not to throw on some sweats and call it a day, but I’m a huge believer in looking your best as often as you can. I’m also Nigerian…so shout out to all my Naija brothers and sisters!”

Hey Jacque! You represent well for Kansas and for Nigerians everywhere.
Jacque didn’t want comments on her post, so a poll will have to do. Vote on her look, and also check out her blog at www.thedopefiends.blogspot.com.

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Jacinta from South Carolina

Hey Guys!
Today’s Bombshell, Jacinta, hails from Charleston, South Carolina:

The Duke University grad says, “I would describe my style as edgy old-lady chic.”

“… My grandma believes there’s really an old woman inside my body whose heyday was in the late 50s and early 60s.”

” I wear mink stoles, scarves on my head, Grace Kelly-inspired nipped in waists with voluminous skirts, vintage brooches, and tons of fur, coupled with modern pieces of course.”

“… My closest friends know I’m a quasi-introvert and that I express my emotions in creative ways, so I favor bright colors like teal, coral, marigold, and chartreuse.”

” I travel quite a bit and love to pick pieces that will evoke memories of where I’ve traveled.”

“…I’m inspired by Gene Tierney, Grace Kelly, Kerry Washington, and Bianca Jagger.”

I love it! Bright colors work on you, and you make vintage items look young and modern.

Claire’s Life: Fashion Week Style Diary Day 4

Hey Guys!

So I’ve had lots of fun documenting my outfits during Fashion Week!

Today’s my unofficial last day going to shows in New York, as I have to prepare for my trip to London tomorrow on American Airlines.

Today, I attended the Hervé Leger show and was actually rushing to the venue! I had to prepare some posts for the Bomb, along with reviews for Essence.com and The Root. When I’m in doubt, I always bet on black with a strong pump. I chose a bow tie black Angelica dress by Motel (courtesy of DJPremium.com) and wore it as a top. I threw a tweed skirt from Zara over the dress to make it look more professional (the dress is a little saucy!).

For accessories, I love my gold, so put on a bullet necklace and diamond cuff by Jenny Dayco along with my favorite Futura ring by ken + dana design:

Of course you can’t go wrong with a classic pair of Christian Loubotin Simple 85 pumps:

No full on fur for me, today, just my Andrew Marc wool coat with a fur collar:)
I’m off tomorrow!

I’ll try to record my outfits as I hop from London to Milan to Paris!

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Lois from Brooklyn

Hey Guys!
Today’s Bombshell is Lois from Brooklyn:

She says, “My style is very me, I wear whatever I think suits me and my size 14 body !”

“… I like to emphasize my waist, so I am seldom without a belt.”

” I shop everywhere; vintage/thrift stores, Ebay, Urban Outfiitters, H&M, etc but I try not to pay retail for anything so I am always using coupons and shopping on the sale racks.”

” I would love to be a stylist or a buyer one day.”

Who said size 14 couldn’t be fabulous? Lois, you are working it! Love your style!

Claire’s Life: Fashion Week Style Diary Day 3

Hey!
Today I attended the Tracy Reese show at Lincoln Center:
It was a bit warm out, so I was toasty in my vintage fur. Thankfully my American Apparel chiffon oversized button up and Zachary’s Smile skirt allowed a bit of ventilation. Staying true to my New Year’s Resolutions, I accessorized with the statement of all statement necklaces…

A ken + dana design b-side Sessilee necklace. I also added a pop of color with a pair of Staciee pumps in Magenta (courtesy of Steve Madden)…

And a bit of funk with another ken + dana jewel: a Misfit graffiti bracelet.

What do you think?

My sunglasses are Marc by Marc Jacobs, a gift from Solstice and Robert Verdi. Lipstick is a MAC Amplified hue called Violetta.

Black History Month with Fashion Bomb Daily: Renauld White sponsored by African Pride

While Sterling St. Jacques made a splash at Studio 54, male model Renauld White revolutionized the industry by demanding equal representation in mainstream publications. In November 1979, White was the first African-American model to appear on the cover of GQ magazine (a fact oft overlooked as the first black man to cover GQ was Swiss born Urs Althaus in 1977).

I actually had a chance to meet and chat with White, who attended the Byron Lars presentation I wrote about on Essence.com. According to White, he got his start when he came to New York from nearby New Jersey one day to demand that agents at Wilhemina models allow more people of color the chance to compete in the industry.

He said, “I wanted to bring about change. I really confronted the establishment about why there were not more black male images. At first I thought I was going to get thrown in jail and beaten up because of my approach. But then they realized that they were wrong and that they were behind society and behind the times, and that they had to listen to me.”

“They offered me a contract because they thought that I would fail. Eventually I proved myself.” White went on to not only cover GQ, but also score major campaigns with Black Tie cologne, Vitalis, and Arrows Shirts. He was the first black man to work the runways for Bill Blass, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and Ralph Lauren. He also enjoyed success in Europe, where he walked for Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Charles de Castelbajac, Cerutti, Valentino, Armani, and Versace.

White later transitioned into the world of theater. He appeared on the soap opera “The Guiding Light,” for many years and now participates in several plays. His advice for aspiring models is, “We know we have to work…there’s work to be done. I try to talk to as many young people as I can, and encourage them to follow their dreams and to aspire to greater things outside of modeling. Modeling is only a bridge. What are you going to do after modeling is over? I had a 30+ year career, they don’t make those anymore. I encourage them to do amazing things. Take the money, go to school, open up a business, be an entrepreneur, and be self reliant.”

I took a picture with Renauld after speaking with him:

He’s still got it!

This post is sponsored by African Pride

Three times weekly for the next five weeks, African Pride will be giving away a year’s supply of their Olive Miracle line to lucky winners on the brand’s Facebook page.
On March 16th, African Pride will kick off the “My Pride. My Way.” campaign in style with a star-studded soiree at Atlanta’s historic King Plow Event Gallery. Stay tuned for an opportunity to win free event tickets on The Fashion Bomb!

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Leslie from LA

Hey Guys!
Today’s Bombshell is Howard University alum and blogger Leslie from LA:

She says, “I believe that my style is a juxaposion of high end and low end items, because while I adore all things designer, I can’t get enough of H&M.”

“… Some of my style inspirations are Tracee Ellis Ross, Ashley Olsen, Genevieve Jones, and Kerry Washington.”

” The effortlessly chic looks those ladies pull off typically leaves me with my mouth agape and my eyes green with jealously!”

“… Ohh to have the wardrobes they do at my disposal! Until I do, I stay FLYY in everything I wear! “

Claire’s Life: Fashion Week Style Diary Day 2

Hey Guys!
So my first show today was Jason Wu located at 548 West 22nd street and 11th avenue. It’s still pretty frigid and the show was in a remote location, so I had to rock one of my vintage furs (I bought it in Paris).

As far as my ‘show’ outfit, I wore a vintage Edun dress, belt, Oliver Peoples sunglasses, and Caryssa Blush Pumps (courtesy of Steve Madden).

I kept everything relatively simple, save my new favorite piece: a Futura Graffiti ring by ken + dana design.
Tweet, tweet, tweet.

Next up I have a presentation by Byron Lars, then Nicole Miller in the tents.

Stay tuned for more Real Style, reviews, and instances from Claire’s life!
