Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Valerie from San Francisco

Happy Monday!
As you read this, I’m flying out West for a quick trip to LA! To keep with the California theme, I thought I’d feature Valerie from San Francisco as today’s Bombshell:

The Nigerian native says, “I originally fell in love with fashion after being immersed in the modeling industry once I finished playing basketball in college. I realized that I needed to have a clear understanding of my own personal style and comprehend what influences today’s well-known and successful designers.”

“…I began reading more fashion magazines and blogs, both domestically and internationally. I’m largely influenced by the NY fashion scene and European culture.”

“…My personal style for the fall/winter is a more of a grunge, rocker chic look. I love mixing dark and neutral tones and pairing it with a vampy lip color. Fashion is an art that I have grown to love and may eventually venture from modeling into more of a designer role.

“…I currently have a blog, www.entertainmentchic.blogspot.com, which not only delves into my love for fashion/sports, but also includes discussing trending topics, such as dating. With my goal to travel/move to Australia this year, I plan to share more of my thoughts on international fashion and how they are influenced by the US.”

Sounds interesting! I’ll check it out. I would have loved to see just a few more pix, but from what you submitted, you’re quite fly.
What do you think?

Claire’s Life: My Workout Routine

Happy Friday Bombshells!
A lot of you have written in asking about my workout routine, so at the top of the year, I’ve finally decided to divulge:

The quick and painless story is that I love going to the gym. For health and vanity reasons I think it’s important to stay in shape, even if only to minimize all the bumps and rolls one may spy under a bit of spandex:) Aside from shopping and writing, I’d put working out on my top five list of things to do in my free time. I hit the gym 3-5 times a week, and at least 2 out of those 5 days I work with a trainer:

Why I love trainers: they know what they’re doing. You’re in and out in an hour. You ensure you’re not wasting your time. And though it’s painful (and can be expensive), it’s the most sure way to achieve your goals. At any rate, here’s a quick breakdown of what I do every week:

Mondays are all about cardio. I’ll hit the stairmaster on a hill interval at level 10 for 45 minutes, or hop on the arc trainer at level 5 for the same amount of time. This ensures lots of sweat with minimal impact on the knees. Tuesday, I LOVE my spin class…! My instructor always plays the best music (from Beyonce to Rihanna to Jay-Z)  and gets you pumped. Wednesday, Thursday, and sometimes Friday, I link up with Emiliano:

For 60 minutes, we do a series of drills together, including lunges, weights, push ups, and other horrible, torturous things.

On the weekend (weather permitting), I run at least 4 miles in the park, outside, bumping to Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, and an auditory potpourri of Southern Music.
Though I love to work out, I also love to EAT, so have resolved in 2012 that in addition to working out, I’d work on my diet to bring my body to where I’d like it to be. I’ve totally sworn off red meat, eat cheese rarely, stick to poultry and fish, drink mostly water (or coconut water if I want something sweet), and snack on nuts and almonds. Apparently for my body type, it’s best if I’m mostly vegetarian, so I try to eat at least a few all veggie meals, and of course stay up on fruits like apples, oranges, and bananas.
I am FAR from my fitness goals, but hopefully this year I can push it to the limit.
Tell me about your workout routine, how you stay fit, and your goals for the New Year!
Smootches!

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Briana from Baltimore

2012 continues on a stylish note with Briana from Baltimore, Marlyand:

She muses, “Fashion is an Evolving theme in my life.”

“… It builds my confidence, embraces my prettiness, and introduces my sexiness.”

“… Fashion is relevant & I am it.”

“… I love to have fun & try different styles that are unique to me.”

“The way I dress is simply a way to express myself or how I’m feeling for the day.”

Ok! Do you think Briana from Baltimore ‘is’ fashion?

Claire’s 2012 Fashion Resolutions

Happy Friday Bombers and Bombshells!
Tomorrow we’ll be waving goodbye to a very good year, and saying hello to 2012.
2011 was amazing for The Fashion Bomb with magazine shoots, the evolution of Fashion Bomb TV, and international fashion weeks.
The sky’s the limit for 2012

…but before I get into my goals for the future, let’s see how I did with last year’s resoutions!

1. Wear more accessories

Last year I pledged to curb my conservative tendencies and pile on the jewelry. I proceeded to do it up with stacked bling bangles, Melody Ehsani baubles, and more.

2. Out with the old, in with the new.

I’ve been working diligently in 2011 to make sure my closet doesn’t overflow with unneeded items. In addition to being very generous with my sisters and mom, I’ve also practiced putting things I probably can’t wear again on Ebay. After being snapped dozens of times in the Parker dress above, to Ebay it went! It hurt my heart, but a well-edited closet is a great closet.

3. Attend more international fashion weeks.

In addition to attending two seasons of shows in New York, London, Paris, and Milan, I also hit up Jamaica Style Week.

4. Bring Back Fashion Bomb TV

With the help of the fabulous Dondy Desir of DsEyezProductions, we’ve been able to revive Fashion Bomb TV with exclusive interviews and quality editing.

For 2012, I’d love to:
1. Attend even more fashion weeks.

This year was full and exhausting with all my country hopping, but I’d still love to see what other countries and continents have to offer. I’m set to fly off to Dubai in February and will hopefully be able to swing by Japan and Nigeria this year. Let’s get it!
2. Take more fashion risks.

Yes, I’m a far cry from my cable knit J. Crew days, but I’m also far from edgy. In 2012, I pledge to push myself outside of my comfort zone, focusing on prints and textures.

3. Do more TV.

You may not know this, but a long, long time ago I had dreams of doing TV. In college I completed internships at PBS and ABC, and was a page at NBC for a short time before my first full time magazine job (yes, I was like Kenneth from 30 Rock. Yes, we’re both from Stone Mountain, Georgia). At any rate, the Fashion Bomb has opened up so many opportunities to do on air stuff. I have a long ways to go, but I’d love to continue to bring the Fashion Bomb to life on the small screen.

4. Launch a lifestyle site.

There’s more to life than fashion! In 2012, stay tuned for a Fashion Bomb offshoot that will cover everything from food to travel and art. Of course we’ll keep fashion in the mix.

And as this year ends, I want to THANK YOU for your support. 2011 has been AMAZING! From features in Essence to Ebony, Covergirl campaigns, talking fashion on BET, and meeting fabulous people, this year has been the BOMB.

I couldn’t do it without Fashion Bomb contributors Jihan, Faith, and Danielle, graphics designer Ashley, and webmaster Zillz. Much love to Fashion Bomb photographer Marta and videographer Dondy. And a BIG OLD HUG to Fashion Bomb readers. You make blogging a true joy and your comments, e-mails, and support inspire and motivate me.
Let’s keep the party going in 2012.
What are your New Year’s Resolutions?

Fashion Bomber of the Day: Dameion from Florida

Since a few Bombshells have had a chance to showcase their style for a second time around, it’s only right the Bombers have their time as well! Though Dameion from Florida was not nominated for our Bomber of the Year contest (which goes down tomorrow), he did want us to see a few updated looks:

He says, “If you ask me to describe my style I would say “Insanely Eclectic” :)”

“…It’s really an anything goes type of feel. I just wear what makes me happy and confident. I’m sure it’s misinterpreted but that’s OK as long as I love it. Own it. And LIVE IN IT. Then I will take that risk.”

“… I’m constantly pushing the envelope for men’s fashion. I try to knock myself out of a box everyday. I don’t label myself…I’m just me!”

“… It would be an honor to be featured for a second time around because I love this blog and how it promotes many
sides of urban fashionistas and fashionistos.”

“For the new year I promised myself I would start my own blog so look out for that soon! Much love to you and the Fashion Bomb team.”

Um, I love it. Be bold, Dameion, and don’t ever lose your spirit!
See Dameion’s first entry here and follow him on twitter @D_ICON. Reminisce on all our past Bombers and Bombshells here. And stay tuned for our Bombshell and Bomber of the year contests tomorrow!
Until then, what do you think of Dameion’s new looks?

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Jacque from Kansas

So nominations are closed for our Best of 2011 series. Until our Bombshell and Bomber of the Year contests go down on Friday, however, I figured I’d continue showcasing Bombshells who wanted a second twirl on the site (Note: these Bombshells were not nominated for Bombshell of the Year, so there’s no unfair advantage). Take a look at Jacque from Kansas, who was first featured in February:

She says, ” I opted for no comments my first time around…”

“… but since then my style (and my confidence) has grown!”

“…. I’m not quite sure how to describe my style”

“..but I tend to keep it simple, with a twist.”

“… I also blog at thelionkingdom.blogspot.com!”

Hey Jacque! Love the new hair and the renewed diversity of your looks!

What do you think?

Fashion Bombshell of the Day: Lucia from Manchester

Though we’re not posting any New Bombshells for 2011 (stay tuned for our Bombshell of the Year contest this week), I know you guys are missing your daily dose of reader style!
So when Lucia from Manchester, UK (who was a Bombshell back in August ) decided to submit a few more pics, I decided to give her just one more chance to shine:

She says, “I would love to be featured again…”

“…The first time around I had just started my blog www.lolitasfashionideas.blogspot.com and was really holding back…”

“After seeing the comments on the feature it gave me more courage and confidence.”

“… I have since become more comfortable with my style”

“… and I now take more risks rather than playing it safe.”

“I really hope to get a second chance for a second feature….it would mean the world to me..”

There you go, Lucia! Love your looks.
What do you think? Is this Mademoiselle from Manchester Bombshell of the Year material?
