I was invited by the kind folks at Puma to the launch of The Girls of Blaze Disc Sneaker Launch, hosted by Solange Knowles down at Miss Favela in Williamsburg.

Puma tapped Solange’s sartorial talents to creatively direct a few new designs for their ‘Disc’ laceless sneaker. Her collaborative choices? Gerlan Marcel, Hisham Akira Bharoocha, and the ladies of William Okpo. Check out the result:

I knew I’d be hanging with Solo, so decided to wear a printed ensemble, specifically a rainbow colored skirt suit by Nigerian designer Busayo.

The piece was doing a lot, so I kept everything else simple, anchoring it with a Brooks Brothers No Iron shirt, a Choy Kelly-Anne Perspex Clutch from Carbon Showroom, and my staple Louboutin pumps.

Afterwards, I snapped a pic with Solange, and asked her if she’d be apart of our Closet Confessions series!

She alluded to her closet being messy/not worth seeing. I don’t believe it! Hopefully we can get a peek one day in the near future.
*For those who want to know, she wore a printed two piece by Cynthia Rowley for the night, with Puma Disc sneakers and a Rauwolf Constantinople clutch.

Today’s Bombshell, Melinda from LA, submitted a slew of selfies! But she’s so dern adorable, I decided to let it slide.

She wrote, “[I’m a] plus-size stylist.

” My style is bold…”

“… funky…”

“… vintage-inspired…”

“… and is meant to show that curvy girls are not limited to wearing big belts over big dresses.”

” Lots of mumus and headwraps…”

“… bangles and fancy flats…”

“…because I’m a hustling momma who doesn’t have time for a twisted ankle.”

I know that’s right, Melinda! Go in and let have! Love this submission. So colorfully eclectic, tastefully chic!

Brandon Isralsky is still pounding the pavement on our behalf, bringing the most interesting and eclectic moments of street chic from Gotham City.
Take a look at his latest snaps:

I’m all in for this New Look cloud printed two piece! The chic white pumps and statement necklace are nice touches.

A wool coat added a cool twist to a denim shirt and sweatpants.

This young man added a fedora and serious stare to his olive toned suit.

It was all about headgear for this divo as well, who bet on blue tones and smart readers.

And even more hot hats! I’m feeling this striped pageboy.

A few well placed bangles and statement accessories jazzed up this printed jumpsuit.

Leather accents are always hot for fall! Really into this leather accented sweatshirt and matching skirt.

Lastly, a little pop of leopard and a warm, nubby jacket are pretty much all you need this season. This fashionista is the definition of chic!

Fashion Discussion: Do You Support Black Designers?

laquan smith black designer tyra banks

When’s the last time you purchased a dress by Tracy Reese? Or ordered an item from LaQuan Smith?
Do You Support Black Designers?

I only ask this question because yesterday, when I posted an article about June Ambrose’s 2nd sunglass collection with Selima Optique, quite a few comments were a bit disparaging. ANON00 wrote, “$250 to $350. They’re cute but her demographic does not fit what she’s trying to do. she’s more QVC, her shades should be $90 to $160 IMO. This reminds me of when she tried to sell those turbans for over $100.” Another Anonymous commenter added, “No thanks…the Versace shades I bought from Macy’s were only $190…”

June Ambrose sunglasses line with selima optique

Interesting that most of us wouldn’t hesitate to buy a pair of $200 Versace frames, but when the tag reads June Ambrose, we suddenly feel the goods need to be offered at a bargain price.

2 June Ambrose Launches Sunglasses Line

Of course we’re all adults: buy what you like! But if we wish to see a change in this industry from a diversity standpoint–with more models and people of color in general– shouldn’t we show support with our wallets?
