She writes, “As a Nigerian Indian living in New York City, Dhvani seeks to influence fashion with her vision of style as a clothing of confidence.”
” To make her style more radiant, she shows how to make high fashion work with a college budget…”
“… and even more importantly how to influence mainstream fashion with Nigerian and Indian qualities!”

The event, which champions artists of African-American descent, brimmed over with notables from the fashion, beauty, entertainment, and political world. It was my first Gala, so I was happy to be there!
Take a look at a few fly attendees:
Erika Munro and Debbie Lorenzo
A stunning beauty in a Givenchy Tribal Print Jersey Gown
Designer Tracy Reese and Dr. Rosemarie Ingleton
Me with 12 Years a Slave Director Steve McQueen
Studio Museum Director and Chief Curator Thelma Golden in Duro Olowu
Oprah’s Adam Glassman, Bethann Hardison, Mike, and Grace Mahary
Lovely Fashion Bomb Readers and Museum Board Members
Fashion Photographer Bill Cunningham
Beauties in B Michael America and Christian Dior
I attended as a guest and not press, so didn’t bring Pierre with me inside (hence the Iphone photos–my bad!).
Instead of go with a typical gown, I decided to take a risk in a whiteTopshop tuxedo anchored by a sequined shirt.
Gotta admit: I ultimately felt a tad underdressed!
But I have another gala coming up next month (I’m on Ebony Magazine’s 2014 Power 100 List, and have been invited to attend their gala in LA on November 19th).
The search is on for the perfect Gala dress!
Until then, thoughts on my choice?

We’re kicking off this wonderful week with Chantal from Toronto:
She says, “I would describe my style as poetic strokes of old school.”
” I’m constantly inspired by different forms of art, poetry, music from past eras…”
“… and fashion icons, such as Aaliyah, Erykah Badu and Solange.”
” I implement different pieces of clothing into my outfits as a representation of myself and my passion for art.”
” I view myself as a walking canvas, so I might as well make the paint worth looking at!”
“Thank you!”
Yes! You’re giving me Zoe Kravitz/Lisa Bonet realness. I love it!

The party ended up being pretty low key, though I did go ahead and purchase the book for my fashion library.
I’ll have to let you know how it is!
If you’re just a fashion fan with a soft spot for beautiful hardcover books, you can purchase Monsieur Dior: Once Upon a Time at Amazon.com.
I’m off to run a few errands and catch some meetings in the city.
I really like this! I love the diversity of looks. You march to the beat of your own drum, and it works.

Today’s Friday, so that means we have a Fashion Bomber!
Check out Wale from St. Louis, Missouri:
He writes, “My style is primarily influenced by the Italian principle of sprezzatura – generally translated as studied carelessness.”
” I look at style as a deeply personal thing and for me that means creating a classic look with my twist.”
” I want to be able to look back 20 years from now at the things I wore…”
“…and not only [feel proud]…”
“but that I could still wear them. “
You are the definition of dapper! I love it!

We’ve been having a bit of an international streak this week! So I decided to continue with Oriane from Paris:
She writes, “I’m Oriane, 21 yo, from Benin and living in Paris.”
” I study luxury marketing and communication and I want to work in a fashion magazine.”
” Since one year, I decide to start a blog so I can share looks and more with people who love fashion like I do.”
” I really like what you do on your blog and I will be so glad to be feature on it.”
“About my style? Well, I think it’s always hard to define “a style”, especially for me who do not believe that we can have only one style.”
” I buy what I like, I do not buy a piece because a magazine says it is the trend of the year.”
” I do not buy that leather jackets and fringed because my look is 100% vintage.”
” I love the little white dresses (girly), wax print but everything is a bit rock’n’chic as you can also see it most of my looks I guess.”
” I’m not necessarily fashionable, but I admit that we are all inspired to the extent that you buy in stores is necessarily a trend that was declined following the success of a model for spotted a fashion show.”
“To summarize my style, I can say I wear vintage, slinky and psychedelic clothing.”
“I love black and navy but I can also rocks colors like red or a mix and match.”
“Sorry for the mistakes, I hope it’s okay. Don’t hesitate to ask me if you need anything else.”
Fabulous! I love your diversity of looks. Thanks for sending us such a fab selection!
