We’re kicking off this week with 2nd time Bombshell, Patience from New Jersey:
She didn’t write much in terms of a style description! She simply wrote, “Hi my name is Patience, Liberian blogger living in New Jersey.” Check her out below:
Cute! You know how to work a pencil skirt!

As the year winds down, we’re featuring a few 2nd timers, including Taye from LA:
The blogger for StuffSheLikes.Net writes, “My Style is ever changing.”
” A perpetual mix of High and Low..”
” One day I will wear huge boyfriend pants and the next a sexy slip dress.”
” For me that is the beauty of clothes…”
” you can change who are on a daily basis with what you decide to wear.”

Love it all, especially that plaid shirt dress! Though I’m biased–Taye is one of my blogging buddies!

Today’s Bombshell is sure to make you smile! Check out Shannon from Miami:
She writes, “I currently live in Atlanta, GA but I’m originally from Miami. My roots go back to Jamaica and Trinidad.”
“My style is very similar to my personality…FUN! I like to have fun with everything that I wear which is why I’m unafraid to try bright colors such as yellow and fun prints like polka dots. “
“Funky, I am told all the time that I’m not exactly normal and I like for my style to be the same. Whether I mix it up and surprise people by going for darker colors or/and for mixing both feminine and masculine pieces such as lace, tutus, and bow-ties! “
“Feminine and Flirty, I’m definitely a girly girl and so my style expresses that most of the time. I’m not afraid to wear feminine colors such as red and purple and add even more feminine pieces such as a floral headband or cutesy delicate tights.”
“You can find my on IG at @shanhem1 and I have a blog that I just started this year… www.Shanscapes.com.”
Fun is a perfect adjective. This certainly made my heart smile.

Happy Monday!
Last night, I was invited by Lisa Price and Carol’s Daughter to a screening of Ava DuVernay’s new movie, Selma.
Starring Oprah Winfrey, Common, Cuba Gooding Junior, and newcomer David Oyelowo, the movie is a biopic about Martin Luther King, Jr., and focuses on his Civil Rights activism, specifically his marches in Selma, Alabama. Poignant, powerful, and timely, the movie shows how far we’ve come, yet how far we still have to go. The similarities between the 1960’s, where blacks were killed with no consequence, to now, are frankly, alarming. The movie was eye opening, but shows that there is power in people galvanizing together to create change. We have the power!
At any rate, Carol’s Daughter founder Lisa Price invited a slew of fashionable gals to view the screening as well, including Cosmo’s Shiona Turini, Teen Vogue’s Elaine Welteroth, Glamour’s Rajni Jacques, and my fellow blogger boo, Karen from Where did U Get That.
After the screening, we hopped by the after party at the New York Public Library. Though I hoped to catch a snap with Lady O, she was nowhere to be found, though I did grab pix with Common, Tessa Thompson (who plays Diane Nash in the film and wore a gorgeous Rodarte dress), Cuba Gooding Junior, and the fabulous Tia Mowry-Hardrict (she was wearing Stone Cold Fox):
I couldn’t urge you more to go see Selma. Like 12 Years a Slave, it documents a very painful period in American history, but knowing and reflecting on the past is imperative to understanding today, and advocating for a better future.
Selma hits theaters January 9th, 2015. Mark your calendars and support!
*See a few official pictures from the red carpet below:
David Oyelowo, who plays Martin Luther King, Jr. in the film
Carmen Ejogo, who plays Coretta Scott King
Wendell Pierce, who plays Reverend Hosea Williams.
Trai Byers, who plays James Forman.
Common looking FINE. He plays James Bevel.
Cuba Gooding Junior, who plays Fred Gray.
Niecy Nash, who plays Richie Jean Jackson.
Selma Film Director and Executive Producer, Ava DuVernay
Happy Sunday!
So yesterday I headed to the city with the plan to go to a friend’s trunk show, then dip down to Dumbo to attend a fellow blogger’s 5th Year Anniversary Party. I got dressed up in a Served Fresh x Ty Hunter sweatshirt, and Pierre and I were shooting a Style Diary in the middle of Herald Square…
… when we realized that all the traffic jams were because of New York’s Millions March, where thousands of people advocated for equal rights and police accountability, precipitated by the wrongful deaths of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and countless others.
So we joined the march.
Yep, I was wearing Gianvito Rossi heels. Pierre and I hopped into the crowd at 34th street, and walked downtown on Broadway, chanting ‘No Justice No Peace,” as Pierre captured a diverse group of protesters carrying signs, united for progress.
Take a look:
My thought the whole time was: We are documenting history. This is amazing. And while a few Instagram followers got caught up in my attire, my #OOTD wasn’t my focus. My goal yesterday was to support and bring awareness to the cause by documenting the proceedings and using my platform to help spread the word.
I majored in African American studies in college. Issues of diversity, fairness, race, and equality are always at the forefront of my mind, whether I translate it through the lens of fashion, photography, or another medium.
Shout out to the Fashion Bomb Readers I met along the way.
As their sign says: The struggle continues. Don’t be silent. #BlackLivesMatter.
Love and Light,
Claire
