Whew! New York Fashion Week was a complete blur, no?
We’ve witnessed some amazing collections and I’m excited to see what designers will present in London. But, as we continue to recover from the previous sartorial overload, I figured we’d get into some of our favorite looks of the week.
Ready?
1) Solange in Zimmermann

Solange Knowles definitely had an eventful week as she scoured the streets of New York in some eye-popping ‘fits. But, our absolute fave was her 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2016 presentation Zimmermann get-up. The statement-making piece features bell sleeves, a flared silhouette and horizontal sheer panels. Solo also paired her Fashion Week look with Schutz’s Karlyanna Caged Boots. Hot!
2) Ciara in Fausto Puglisi

Ciara’s been slaying lately! The songstress stopped by Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live while showcasing her enviable legs in a mutli-colored set by Fausto Puglisi. I went crazy when I saw this on Instagram – the colors here are everything. Go girl!
3) Naomie Harris in David Koma

Well, well.. it looks like Naomie Harris makes yet another appearance in our Look of the Week feature. While the actress uplifted golden tones in last week’s post, she flaunted some serious skin this week in a sultry David Koma number. Her gown boasts a lace-up detail and certainly increases the sex appeal. To top off the look, she rocked berry colored nails, a sleek ‘do and black heels. Werk!
4) Jennifer Lopez in Diane von Furstenberg

Retro vibes were the inspiration behind J.Lo’s Diane von Furstenberg printed set! The American Idol judge served every bit of class as she smized in an ensemble from the designer’s Resort 2016 collection. With bold red lips and a 70’s-inspired coif, Jenny proved that a conservative take on fashion can also be quite intriguing. I’m here for it!
5) Zendaya in Michael Kors

The lovely Zendaya was on-hand for the 2016 Miss America competition while donning a jaw-dropping silk gown by Michael Kors. Honestly, I adore the simplicity of this look! From her gorgeous curls to the amazing use of accessories, this style maven took this gown to a whole new level.
6) Rita Ora in Prada

And, to round things off, we have Rita Ora! The songstress/actress attended the 2015 Harper’s Bazaar Icons Event in a black creation by Prada. The dress features some pretty intricate detailing including embellished long sleeves, a velvet collar and sheer panels. I also liked the dramatics of her makeup. She looks great!

Her dress was shown with metallic cage sandals on the brand’s Spring 2015 runway.

Gorgeous, though I would’ve liked a bit more in the hair and makeup department.

What do you think? Hot! or Hmm…?

Would you wear this?

TGIF!!!
Yesterday, I decompressed post New York Fashion Week with a walk in Prospect Park. I kept my look sporty in a cropped hoodie and cinch leggings by Slim Girl Shapewear:
I normally don’t like wearing constrictive garments, but these leggings smooth out your belly, lift your butt, and make you sweat!
They felt so good, they gave me the confidence to try out a few of my old cheerleading moves.
LOL.
But seriously these leggings are the bomb, and look great for the gym, walks, or any sort of athletic activity.
How do they look?

We’re ending this week on a beautiful note!
Check out Silvia from Nairobi, Kenya:
She says, “My style is unpredictable and ever changing.”
” I sometime cringe at outfits that I wore 4 years ago.”
” So I am now more and more trying to keep it practical with a few classics for everyday wear, though I love to have fun with fashion and I am not shy about trying out new styles/trends on my blog as long as they feel good to wear.”
” I am quite soft spoken and sometimes shy so I live for fashion to do the talking for me.”
” I feel my best when I am dressed up with the right hair and makeup.”

Gorgeous!

With the rest of the fashion universe being steered in the direction of all things Eastern – kimono sleeves, cheongsams, and gowns emblazoned with backdrops of cherry blossom petals floating in the wind – post this year’s Met Gala, de la Renta’s assortment for next spring took us on a journey through the designer’s memories of Spain.
Peter Copping has been a designer who enjoys creating garments that evoke a particular sentiment or tell us of a moment in time. And this season, the collection did just that to honor the memory of his predecessor.
Before his untimely death, Oscar de la Renta was often seen with a red carnation delicately affixed to his lapel. And rightfully so, the sentiment permeated through Copping’s offerings. Satin gowns, pencil skirts, and dainty daytime frocks were uplifted with printed carnations, an obvious but thoughtful nod to de la Renta himself.
There were scores of red satin and black lace this go ’round, as models glided down the runway in T-strap Mary Janes and espadrilles, echoing how much de la Renta adored Spain. Nostalgia played a vital role here, interweaving de la Renta’s adoration for Spanish bullfighting with a few of the garments. Jackets, sweaters and coats were ornamented with floral appliques and gems reminiscent of toreador costumes. But Copping expertly constructed these pieces, offering glamor without a cluster of adornments.
Despite the walk down memory lane, the collection was still very much de la Renta. Overtly feminine dresses and separates in shades of hunter green, mint, lilac and yellow were quintessentially spring; pieces perfect for a formal daytime affair.
All in all, the collection was nothing short of wearable and beautiful. But creating beautiful clothes comes with a responsibility to convey a statement. Copping’s was clear. Memories can live far beyond a person’s lifespan. But it’s the responsibility of loved ones left behind to preserve and cherish those memories and tiny but unforgettable nuances for generations to come.
What say you to Oscar de la Renta’s latest?
