Beyonce has been supporting lots of black designers as of late! I’m here for it!
She posed with hubby Jay Z recently in a custom mustard yellow dress by 5:31 Jerome, topped off by a gold twill trench from Harbison’s Spring 2015 collection.
See a sketch of Bey’s dress below.
Her jacket has multiple buttons and wind flaps.
Both Beyonce and Solange look fantastic in yellow; and happiness always looks hot!
What do you think?
Virgil Abloh’s Off White Spring 2016 show was many things: a casual, crisp, and cool collection of layered garments. An updated take on the typical white shirt and jeans. An architectural assemblage of pieces uplifted by refreshing ruffles and patches. The show was fantastic! But sadly, it wasn’t diverse.
Kanye once told the New York Times, “Virgil is one of the smartest, fastest, most innovative people I’ve created with.” Kanye also once said, famously, “George Bush doesn’t care about Black People.” Could the same be said for Mr. Abloh in regards to black models?
Out of 21 looks in Abloh’s Off White collection, shown in Paris, only one was modeled by a black woman.
In an age where every season, runway designers get graded on their attention to diversity (and fail miserably), one would think that a black designer from Chicago would go over and above to make his show diverse. Malaika Firth, Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls, Herieth Paul, Ysaunny Brito, Riley Montana, Maria Borges, Tami Williams, Lineisy Montero, Cindy Bruna, and Binx Walton are all in town. I know because they all walked in Balmain’s Spring 2016 show. Couldn’t the casting director for Off White book just a few more women of color?
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t going to ‘go there,’ and was just going to put up the show review and keep it pushing. But the lack of color was pretty obvious. And if black designers don’t make it a point to include black models in runway shows, who will?
It was all about prints for Kat Graham at the Teen Vogue 13th Annual Young Hollywood Issue Launch Party. For the celebration, she sported an Opening Ceremony Resort 2015 Printed Suit:
Her look was paired with a matching bowler bag and white ankle-strap platform sandals.
Hayley Kiyoko was spotted at Teen Vogue’s 13th Annual Young Hollywood Issue Launch Party in LA in the same $850 Alexander Wang Studded Silk Turtleneck Rita Ora originally wore just last month:
Kris Jenner stepped out for dinner at Hotel Costes with her boyfriend Cory Gamble in the same $2,385 Balmain Striped Long Line Cardigan and $2,305 Trousers daughter Kim originally wore back in June:
There wasn’t much difference between how Kris and Kim styled it, though the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch did add reflective shades and a ribbon choker.
The black and gold striped cardigan features a long length, 80’s-inspired shoulder pads, and a detachable self-tie waist belt.
The matching trousers showcase a contrast elasticated waistband.
Her unisex aviator frames are crafted from stainless steel and feature cured cellulose acetate temple tips.
Her bonded silk viscose trench coat boasts a button-less construction with epaulette and sleeve loop detailing, two inverted pleat flap pockets at the hips, and a slight A-line ankle-length silhouette.
Her faux-leather creepers feature metallic star cutout detailing, 3″ wooden platform soles, and jagged cap toes.
Hot!

Alexander Wang’s 10th anniversary show for his namesake brand was a fashionable fête of the most luxurious persuasion, thus it was only right he make his swan song at Balenciaga just as explosive. He was brought on as the Creative Director for the French fashion house because of his “proven talent, modernity and individual and cosmopolitan vision of design” according to chief executive Isabelle Guichot and he truly delivered during his time there. For his finale, he showcased that quintessential Wang charisma from enlisting friend and muse Zoe Kravitz to model in the runway show, as well as choosing a soundtrack of hip hop legends: a genre he has clung to during his career.
Hip-slung waistpacks, cigarette cases, and come hither lacy slippers brought in his signature approachability and street-style sensibility, while the array of all-white looks injected a sense of purity. Perhaps cleansing the palette for the next designer who will be stepping into the esteemed role.
Boudoir-ready attire has been a prevalent trend of late and Wang riffed on it with delicate silk dresses, plush camisoles accented with sleeveless silhouettes, low-cut necklines, and feminine ruffles, as well as sleek and soft trousers with roomy legs and low rises.
Monochromatic collections often err on the side of dullness, but that wasn’t the case here at all. If the devil is in the details, then he might just be thinking of switching to a white wardrobe for Spring. Details including dainty bows, sultry mesh insets, his signature bralette reworked with extra straps and ruffles, and frocks taking on the shape of corsets and garters were all present.
Wang took his bow with some obligatory selfies: he is a millennial after all. It was definitely a moving juncture for the designer and the industry as a whole, but we know this means new and exciting possibilities for the future. We’re eager about what’s next.
